Clinique mild facial soap bar discontinued !!!

Happyher · 27/11/2025 11:29

I’ve just found out that my favourite soap that I’ve used for about 40 years is being discontinued and I’m devastated! I have sensitive dry skin and never found anything that suits my skin as much as this one. I use the mild version. It’s selling for between £30 and £60 a bar on eBay but I can’t justify spending that much on a bar of soap

Does anyone else use this soap or does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives please. I prefer bar soap rather than liquids

I have really sensitive skin too & use a facial bar soap from Nope. It’s called oat and something (sorry can’t remember off hand.) It’s really good and lasts ages.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately you can’t order it and it’s out of stock in all the stores near me

@Happyher , I never rated it. There are some gentle soap bars around. I got some nice ones from my local pound shop, 2 for £1 (goat milk), 4 for £1 (olive oil/glycerin soap).

I never got the 'soap is so drying memo' but handwashes give me sore hands. The stuff is evil.

Try Holland & Barrett or Boots for facial soap bars. They have some gentle ones and often have special offers. Baby soap is fine.

PhuckTrump · 27/11/2025 13:49

I was just trying to buy some yesterday. John Lewis, Clinique, Sephora, and Boots all have no placemarker for the bar soaps on their websites. I could only find a placemarker at M&S, and it was OOS.

What about trying a balm?

Clinique Take The Day Off or Elemis?

What about an oil? Superfacialist and Facetheory both do great ones. I've recently been mixing mine with Grown Alchemist face scrub/polish and my skin looks amazing.

I'm far too nice.

Not sure whether to post here or on the thread linked above now. Came on to say that I used to use the Clinique mild facial cleanser bars & now use Lush Aqua Marina cleanser.

Thanks - I liked the look of the Cerave one suggested as alternative. It seems to be mainly available in the US but I’ve managed to snag one on eBay for less than my Clinique one. If I like it I do have a brother in the US 🙂

Have you got a The Cosmetics Company anywhere near you? They sell all EL brands so you might find it there.

I was in one yesterday but they didn’t have any. I thinks stocks have now run out unfortunately 🙁

They're probably doing you a favour- there's much better and gentler ways to cleanse sensitive skin than this soap.

OneBadKitty · 11/12/2025 18:33

On another note Estee Lauder seem completely intent on ruining the Clinique brand. The packaging is awful now and there's too many products and no focus anymore.

Back in the 90s they were way ahead of their time with their BHA toners and double cleansing routine. But instead of sticking with that and adapting the toners by removing the alcohol when they saw sales falling due to their reputation for being too harsh, they ploughed on and built in more and more versions which failed to be effective.

The once lovely packaging is now cheap and horrible too!

IlovetoKnitandRead · 11/12/2025 18:39

I have started using good old Pears soap and it is lovely and non drying. I miss Clinique soap and it's lovely dish. The refils lasted ages.

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/12/2025 18:47

Waitrose glycerine soap.

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/12/2025 18:48

I used to use it but in truth, it was a bit shit for my skin. I found their facial wash alternative better. However, my absolute favourite face wash is Cerave Hydrating Foaming Oil cleanser. It is the loveliest product and has done wonders for my skin.

GeorgeTheFirst · 11/12/2025 18:49

Gruum do a lovely gentle foaming cleansing bar (the black one, with charcoal) that's a lot cheaper

dayswithaY · 11/12/2025 19:03

This is bringing back memories of when my best friend and I were desperate to try the Clinique skincare regime back in the 1990s. We went to a London department store and got the full rundown from a lady in a lab coat and excitedly took our bottles home.

Cut to us with a slippery yellow soap in a plastic case, cleansing lotion that stung like acid and a tiny bottle of Dramatically Different Moisturiser that did nothing to soothe my poor dry, red, face.

I gave up and went back to Nivea.

I can’t believe anyone still uses it, what was in it - drain cleaner?

Passthecake30 · 12/12/2025 06:59

I know you say you want a soap, but after it was discontinued I went to cetaphil general skin cleanser in a pump. Great for smearing on my face and rinsing off, or using a washable wipe. Plus side, doesn’t get crusty like the soap did for me!

Wiglio · 12/12/2025 07:18

@GeorgeTheFirst agree about gruum, I use their cleansing bars, very gentle and good value.
apparently Nivea do a cleansing bar bu I’ve never found it in shops

Happyher · 12/12/2025 07:29

I think at 67 I know what suits my skin. I’ve tried may products o er the years and always come back to Clinique mild soap

Gallinee perfume free cleansing bar. I first saw it recommended in the guardian. It is safe for the whole body and face. If out of stock on their website, try Look Fantastic.
