Denim jacket - yes or no?

Was thinking something like this to wear with vests and summer skirts:
www.warehouse.co.uk/fcp/product/-//WESTERN-JACKET/6780
but will i look like i'm trying to be 18 again (am currently 35).
And am new here and love it - have in the past week bought the chanel foundation recommended which i love and had a brazilian wax!

I like it
But do not wear if you have large norks
remember Sam Fox and beware

DirtySexyMummy · 08/06/2008 21:21

No to denim jackets unless you are under 22.

janeite · 08/06/2008 21:21

I like denim jackets, fashionable or not, but NEVER EVER to be worn with jeans!

FruitynNutty · 08/06/2008 21:22

denim jacket - fine. Do not do double denim and wear with jeans though!

traceybath · 08/06/2008 21:24

Don't worry i wouldn't wear with jeans but am inclined to agree with DSM - i'm too old to pull it off in a cool way.

Honestly - and I really mean this in the nicest possible way - people over the age of about 22 should not wear denim jackets. Men or women.

nkf · 08/06/2008 21:36

This 22 cut off point. Do you really mean it? Sighs and strokes denim jacket fondly.

Sputnik · 08/06/2008 21:49

22
Ridiculous.

Agree with others re jeans, but otherwise whyever not? Think it would look fine with skirts.

(Tracybath, you will find you'll never get us all to agree )

drowninginlaundry · 08/06/2008 21:57

no to double denim

but some denim jackets look lovely with maxi dresses. Even if you are over 22!

geordieminx · 08/06/2008 21:57

Lovely jacket - will look grand with skirts and verst but not jeans.... its a dad thing

Double denim seriously horrible. Like a biker chick. What about summer dress and denim jacket? Or cropped chinos and denim jacket? Just asking on behalf of a friend you understand.

DirtySexyMummy · 08/06/2008 22:00

No Sputnik, they don't. You end up looking like you are going to a barn dance. Its really not a good look.

Now - drowninginlaundry makes a good point - little ones with 3/4 length sleeves actually do look good with maxi dresses. Fair point.

maidamess · 08/06/2008 22:00

I think denim jackets have had their day. A blazer much nicer. Or something like this, more modern
nice

nkf · 08/06/2008 22:03

But a blazer is a different sort of look. Not a replacement.

DrNortherner · 08/06/2008 22:04

I am thinking no. I have a lush earl jeans one in my wardrobe. Everytime I put it on it looks wrong and I never venture out in it.

But don't want to give it away just yet!

maidamess · 08/06/2008 22:04

I don't mean a smart structured suit blazer. Some really nice cotton/linen ones with a bit of a stripe in the shops. I just think denim jackets look a bit old fashioned now.

what thread

puffling · 08/06/2008 22:07

Unless you're nigella and they skim your enormus norks teasingly.

nkf · 08/06/2008 22:07

Maidamess, any links?

maidamess · 08/06/2008 22:09

whilst not ideal, this fulfils the denim AND the blazer theme

nkf · 08/06/2008 22:11

Yes it does but it's nipped in at the waist. I can't imagine wearing it to the beach. But it is nice though.

Sputnik · 08/06/2008 22:13

So what's wrong with barn-dance chic, then?

Actually, I was just thinking this over and the last time I wore a denim jacket (my bf's) was when I was about 22. Not really my thing but I really don't see why, on principle, not, if someone likes it. I mean it's not as if they're showing off a load of unsightly 35 year old flesh, or something.
