Anyone know whence this dress came?

Bought many moons ago. The most incredibly flattering fit. Retailer label removed. I want to say it came from Wallis, but can't be sure. Even if I knew, probably no longer sold. Just thought I'd check with Mumsnet before I give up. It's knitted with fitted bodice and looser skirt.

I just ordered 2 from Wallis website that sort of look similar. I'm not hopeful though. This one (could honestly be 15 years old) was Christmas-dinner-bloat proof. Fitted on top and beyond forgiving on the tummy, but somehow still fitted looking. Magic tailoring. Nice with boots. I appreciate the kind responses.

When I google the product code I get a mumsnet thread about an oasis dress from 2009 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/846697-Will-this-dress-be-itchy

The code matches the second dress being considered, not the potentially itchy one.

Interesting, thanks!

Is there a RN # number on the back of that tag?

Alas, no. Just washing instructions.

I had a v similar one in maroon, from Monsoon - 10 or 15 years ago! I'm sure it's still somewhere in the attic...

"From whence" always makes me twitch. Yes, my username is appropriate, thanks for noticing...

I'm only commenting to endorse your use of "whence". (No picture is appearing for me - yet - otherwise I might attempt to be more helpful!)

Not only an excellent usage of ‘whence’, but a correct one! The OP has avoided the common error of ‘from whence’! Delightful.

Sorry, I can’t help with the dress.

albalass · 17/11/2025 20:23

I had a similar style dress from Oasis - probably about 10 years ago and it was bottle green.

Meadowflower2023 · 17/11/2025 20:46

Very similar but not the same. This dress is by Esprit

Yes! I read that and thought what a lovely word. I’m going to shoehorn it in to convos now.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 18/11/2025 07:07

I only clicked for the whence.

Can't help with the dress but I love your use of English 😀

I came to say I had a very similar one from Oasis a few years back- they used to do lovely jumper dresses and I had a few in different colours.

Yes, very similar indeed. The magic of the mystery dress is that it almost has an empire line - so it's loose from under the boobs onwards, but still manages to look quite fitted as opposed to sack-like.
Whither I go from here I know not; yet I am grateful for the research whence your helpful suggestions arose.

Specifically, from where. Hence, whence.

Excellent

WhatdoesitmeanKeith · 18/11/2025 10:35

Kookai? God that makes me nostalgic for when clothes shopping was enjoyable.

I had a Kookai top emblazoned with the legend ‘Kookai’ in the early 1990s. I thought I was the dogs bollocks as I thought Kookai terribly posh. It was worn and washed to death and eventually disintegrated.
I realise this is of no use to the OP but came on to say I’m an ex Wallis employee from the late 1990s and it’s not a label I recognise as being a Wallis one.

Also here for the use of the word whence! Love it. Want to use it now. Good luck finding the dress.

BlueBarnOwl · 24/11/2025 15:51

We need to start a thread about fashion in Pedants' Corner 😆

SmashingGemini · 24/11/2025 16:55

Could be Mantaray (Debenhams) perhaps. I had one similar and it was either from there or Monsoon.
