I was given this lovely jumper for Christmas last year and haven't worn it yet

The advert itself says wear in Autumn 😆 but are Fair Isles just for Christmas?

Hell no, wear it all the time, it’s a gorgeous shade.

Love it 😆 @Purplecatshopaholic thank you!

I don't think Fair Isle patterns are just for Christmas? Certainly never heard of that before. I live in Scandinavia so maybe fashions are very different where you live, but around here it is a normal winter style. The one you linked to is very nice - take it out and wear it!

sonjadog · 13/11/2025 21:07

Actually, looking again I see it even says Norwegian inspired! In which case I can tell you with authority that no, that is definitely not a Christmas only jumper. :-)

Cat1504 · 13/11/2025 21:30

It’s sold out

DappledThings · 13/11/2025 21:32

It doesn't look even vaguely Christmassy to me

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 13/11/2025 21:34

I've got loads of Fair Isle jumpers and I wear them all the year round.
Well, maybe not in summer.......🤣

TheGrimSmile · 13/11/2025 21:34

I wear mine all the time.

Silverbirchleaf · 13/11/2025 21:40

No. At last they’ve lost their ‘Christmas only’ connotation.

henlake7 · 13/11/2025 21:45

I think unless it has Christmas elements woven into the design then it's suitable for anytime.

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/11/2025 21:46

I don't think Fair Isle has ever been just for Christmas.

soundsys · 13/11/2025 21:50

Definitely not just for Christmas!

SavageGarden23 · 13/11/2025 21:58

Ohhh its a lovely jumper wear it! I am so tempted to buy one now as I like at least 3 or 4 of them but absolutely broke now due to buying multiple beauty advent calendars. If I can shortlist one I am getting that.

BatFeminist · 13/11/2025 22:10

A Fair Isle is for life, not just for Christmas

No it isn't a Christmas jumper, wear it anytime. I've got a Boden dress similar I wear all through the winter. It does work for Christmas but it's not a christmas jumper.

CaminoPlanner · 13/11/2025 22:44

I wore my fairisle the other day when I was feeling fluey and needed a comfort jumper.

worrisomeasset · 13/11/2025 22:47

The beauty of a Fair Isle is that it can be worn any time the weather is cold but can also be wheeled out whenever a Christmas jumper is required. I think the notion that they have anything to do with Christmas is a recent one. I watched Ever Decreasing Circles again recently and was struck by the number of Fair Isles being worn by the cast in entirely non-Christmassy episodes. Howard and Hilda loved their matching Fair Isles and I’m sure I saw Ann in one.

JustOnePersonNotAnOctopus · 13/11/2025 22:47

Fair Isles aren’t just for Christmas but 1) they are warm and you wouldn’t want to wear one in the summer and 2) that particular design looks like it has Christmas trees on??

ErrolTheDragon · 13/11/2025 22:52

Why on earth would anyone think a Fair Isle jumper was just for Xmas?Confused

bridgetreilly · 13/11/2025 23:24

Unless the design is red-nosed reindeers and holly leaves, I can’t see why anyone would think it was for Christmas at all. That jumper is lovely and should be worn every time it’s cold enough!

AndreaMarvell · 13/11/2025 23:35

I've got a vintage wool jumper by something called Clothkits. It's a dark forest green with squirrels and mice on. Similar style but not fairisle. I love it.

zzplec · 13/11/2025 23:46

That's not a Fair Isle jumper.

Richardoo · 13/11/2025 23:50

I wear it all year round. Only Christmassy if it has a Christmas pattern, not sure if that one has Xmas trees?
