Christmas jumpers: when to wear?

When do people start wearing Christmas jumpers? 1st December or before then?

OP posts:

Others will have different views on this, and maybe it makes me a bit of a Grinch, but I am firmly in the “Christmas in December” camp personally. I don’t like trees/decorations in private homes before the 1st (fine in retail, hospitality etc), and likewise Christmas jumpers. I think things like fairisle are fine, but not eg the one one I have which is a sweatshirt that says “Merry Swiftmas” with a screen print of Taylor Swift in a Santa hat on it. I know there’s an argument about not having items you only wear for a short time, but I think that’s fine if you wear the same jumper over multiple festive seasons rather than buying new ones each year.

As with everything though, wear what you like!

ChicJoker · 02/11/2025 09:55

Anytime you want realistically. It depends how you’re wearing it and where to.

I’d say mid November is more common but if I was inclined to wear them myself I’d just do it anytime!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 02/11/2025 09:58

1st December unless there’s a Christmas themed event end of November - 1st December is a Monday this year so I would expect quite a few Christmas events 29th/30th November, completely fine to Christmas jumper up for something festive.

GehenSieweiter · 02/11/2025 09:59

Not before December, ideally at least a week in.

SardineJam · 02/11/2025 10:00

Not before December here too

hexsnidgett · 02/11/2025 10:01

The last week in December.

drspouse · 02/11/2025 10:04

Never.
DCs wear them when it's Christmas jumper day at school (or never if you are DS) and any time they want (DD wore her Grinch hoody to church but it was a commentary on the heating).
I have a dress with a slight snow theme going on that I wear if I have to.

Yogaandchocolate · 02/11/2025 10:06

I’d say at Christmas parties and then Christmas itself. But then I’m a grinch who thinks it would be more special if we didn’t spend at least 1/6 of the year celebrating Christmas!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/11/2025 10:12

I feel validated - I was nervous posting my comment in case people came for me saying what a big meanie I was 😂

CatWithThreeLegs · 02/11/2025 10:16

In our house, any time after Remembrance Day, so mid November onwards, but more likely December for me.

I'm glad my DC are old enough that they can wear them multiple years too! Also thank goodness for Vinted.

welcometotheblackparadee · 02/11/2025 10:56

Mine come out after bonfire night, although am tempted to wear one to work tomorrow to make everyone chuckle 🤷🏻‍♀️

DickDewey · 02/11/2025 11:12

I wouldn’t be seen dead in a Christmas jumper, but our adult sons wear them on Christmas Day.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 02/11/2025 11:23

The bad news is we are being predicted a record hot November. So it’s unlikely to be cold enough for the thick Christmas jumpers until much closer to the festive season.

Are christmas jumpers thicker than a regular jumper?
I have one Christmas sweatshirt bought a couple of years ago for the work CJ day, I wear it every year. It’s no thicker than any other sweatshirt in my wardrobe!
And just how hot is it meant to be this November, I’ll wear multiple layers when it drops below about 20 degrees 😂

Anyway op I will wear mine on the day work decides is Christmas jumper day and at no other time of the year. No one else in my house owns a Christmas jumper.

Deliveroo · 02/11/2025 12:56

Ours come out on the 1st December.

chattyness · 02/11/2025 13:03

I wear mine on any cold day, I don't give a fig what anyone thinks

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 02/11/2025 13:16

@TheChosenTwo- they are often chunky knits. So more when it’s a bit chilly.

CharlotteCChapel · 02/11/2025 14:31

The first of December but I saw one being worn a few days ago.

In that case maybe I should invest in some and wear them now, I’m permanently fucking freezing!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 02/11/2025 21:12

@TheChosenTwo- you could go for Fairisle knits, they seem festive yet aren’t full Christmas.

Hedgehog23 · 02/11/2025 21:15

I bought a jumper with a fair isle style yoke featuring foxes and so far two people have commented on my ‘Christmas’ jumper. It’s not a Christmas jumper!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/11/2025 21:16

Too hot in my classroom to wear a jumper, but I have a fine selection of Christmas-themed shirts that I wear to work though December. The kids like them. I usually find them on vinted then wear them annually.

GreyRooted · 02/11/2025 23:09

I don’t have a jumper as I get too hot, but I do have a Last Christmas (Wham!) t shirt I wear from December onwards. And this year, I’ve just bought this t shirt, from Matalan of all places. I never normally go in there. I also don’t normally wear anything with pictures etc on but this really caught my eye!

Christmas jumpers: when to wear?
RampantIvy · 02/11/2025 23:17

On Christmas jumper day at work and the Christmas pilates class.
