How old is too old...

... for short skirts? I'm 46 and over the last year I've lost almost 7 stone. For the first time in my life, I "have the legs" for shorter skirts, but I worry that I've missed the boat as far as that goes now. I'm not especially young-looking because I'm growing out some ill-advised permanent hair colour at the moment and have a lot of grey roots! Does grey hair go with minis, even if the legs are sort of ok?

I read an article today about Angela Rippon. She is 81, was wearing leather trousers and said that there is no label in them that says “not for anyone over x age”. Wear whatever you want to.

You’re asking the wrong person, I picked up a pair of sequin shorts in Tescos yesterday and thought “Could I?” Was thinking with opaque tights, ankle boots and a chunky jumper……then I remembered I’m 60 next birthday 😂 I bought the brown wide leg leather trousers instead, very disappointing!

I don't care what's "in". Skirts just above the knee, or a couple of inches, are my sweet spot. I have cord, velvet and denim for Winter. They balance me out as I'm not terribly tall. Just average. I wear them with knee length boots too. So 80's, but fuck it, I was at my best in the 80's so.......why change what works.

I also have white blond hair, not dyed, and am coming up to 60.

I’m 45 and I wear mini skirts in winter with thick tights and boots and on holiday I wear short shorts! When I was 40 I wouldnt’ve dreamed of it (not to mention relearning to love a bikini!) but the older I get the more I wear what I want not what “I should” wear!
I also have gray hair, stopped full head dying it about 5 years ago with just highlight’s and toners since, had the last of the dye cut out last week!

@PanderBaredon’t encourage me! I think I just thought when I was younger that I’d ’grow out’ of my love of fashion, but it just hasn’t happened yet, so now I’m thinking it never will, it’s like a hobby.

53 and still wearing mini skirts.

I'm 64 and wear skirts a couple of inches above my knees. Usually casual ones with opaques.

I'm almost 60 and wear skirts 17 to 19 inches with opaque or wooltights with flat boots

Go back and get the shorts! I bet you rock them!

OP, I love a short skirt. I'm a tiny bit younger than you (41) but I really hope I will still be wearing them in 20 or even 30 years' time. My current favourite is a black denim button front a-line mini skirt with big floral embroidery up each side. This is narrowly followed by a burgundy pleather zip-front tight mini skirt. I wear them with loose or tight jumpers, black tights, and boots at the moment, and I look awesome, if I do say so myself 😅

@Rina66 another vote for get them! I bet the trousers are fab, but if you can rock them you'll rock the sequin shorts as well. Enabler, moi? <<innocent face>>

@Rina66 I know exactly the shorts you mean, my 68 year old mam rocked them the other day with tights and my old purple DMs. Do iiiiit. You'll look fab.

These threads amaze me.. I’m mid 40s and wear mini skirts all the time, as do my friends. I never thought we might have to give them up. We are not our parents or grandparents generation who mainly felt they had to dress a certain way in each decade. We can do what the fuck we like.

I wear shorts in the summer and a bikini on holiday too.

A short skirt to me, isn't 1 or 2 inches about the knee - that's just a knee length skirt!

I'm nearly 50 and wear short (mini) skirts. In fact, I had a short dress knee last night with thick tights and chunky flat boots. Probably my winter staple now!

I also bought a skort recently and this is short but will be great for nights out over Christmas however I'm now keen to see the sequin shorts in Tesco that @Rina66 has mentioned!

I’m 57 and wear short short skirts and tunic dresses etc because I want to.

I'm 44 and wear short skirts. My legs are thick and very muscly, because I walk a huge amount, but I think I look great.
I'm not remotely bothered by what is "in" or whatever. If it fits and I like it then I shall wear it.

Im 52 and will happily wear mid thigh length skirts and dresses. Only with thick tights and if its very short (or very windy!) I wear cycling shorts as well.
I think as long as you arent going for the full on high heels, tight top look then pretty much anything looks ok!
