This skirt keeps popping up on my feed and I am in two minds about whether it's very cool or too much like a quality street wrapper.

Add a touch of glamour to your party look with this gleaming metallic gold skirt. It's designed in a regular fit, with a flowing midi-length hem. The pleats bring subtle movement to the fabric, while a side zip fastening gives a neat finish. M&S Col...

I’ve seen this. It’s a “look at me” skirt and you need personality to go with it. If that’s you, why not? It’s great.

RaraRachael · 28/10/2025 12:02

Not a fan personally as I'm not keen on shiny material even for evening wear, but if you like it, go for it.

muckandmerriment · 28/10/2025 12:09

I've seen it in store and it's too yellowy gold for me. I have a more distressed gold version from Zara that is far less showy.

Evergreen21 · 28/10/2025 12:31

Monsoon do a version too but that isn't pleated.

3hairspastfreckle · 28/10/2025 12:34

I want to like it, but there's something off, maybe the colour? I normally love pleated skirts and gold but not this one. I think you'd have to style it very carefully and then it could end up looking over styled, which isn't very 'me' so I'd avoid it

TaupeRaven · 28/10/2025 12:37

I have a very similar one which is slightly less yellow and with a bit of a 'crackle' effect rather than just full on shine all over (from Tesco, so I should probably be booted from the thread for my lack of fanciness!), and I love it. It dresses up and down really well, but I've always been someone who wears quite bold (ugly?!) clothing so I don't feel at all self conscious

SoScarletItWas · 28/10/2025 12:43

I have a silver pleated satin skirt which I wear a lot. But I’m not keen on the very yellow tone to that gold. If it’s your colour, though, go for it!

And @TaupeRaven I have possibly the same Tesco skirt as you but in brown, which is MUCH better quality than I expected, very swishy and fabulous.

ladygindiva · 28/10/2025 12:48

I absolutely love it ❤️

Holluschickie · 28/10/2025 12:49

I have a silver pleated skirt too. But this is rather too shiny and an odd colour. Nay from me.

dontlikethings · 28/10/2025 12:50

I'm not a fan, it somehow manages to be garish and frumpy at the same time but maybe the right person can carry it off.

Honestly, I really like it! It seems to hang really nicely, is a decent shade of gold, and it washes brilliantly too. (I've actually subsequently bought it again - twice - from Vinted as my size has changed!)

NorWouldTilly · 28/10/2025 13:03

The styling makes it look noticeably more garish and cheap than is absolutely necessary. I can imagine with gentle, summery beach colours and fabrics - lace, muslin, silks it might assault the eye less painfully, but that isn’t the look they’re selling.

Over lockdown I owned a similar-ish skirt in a wafty sort of beige / silver from Zara and wore it endlessly, with everything, like a pair of jeans - but I’d trust Zara more with this sort of thing than M&S, who can be rather heavy handed with any idea.

Agree with this. The styling makes it look awful and very “catalogue”. M&S is generally pretty dreadful at styling though so I guess it’s to be expected.

I love a metallic skirt / jacket / top (ok, everything!) but it needs to be worn with more subtlety so it’s less ‘in your face’ and less like the skirt wearing you (rather than you wearing the skirt).

Christopher Kane did a fabulous range of pleated metallic/lame skirts about 7-8 years ago. Worth keeping an eye out for on Vinted if you like this style.

Sandtheedges · 28/10/2025 13:15

I like the style and the metallic fabric but it’s yellow not gold to me. And an odd shade at that

LaurieFairyCake · 28/10/2025 13:16

I LOVE it, but I like garish and sequins and very bright colours.

I hate neutrals and feel like I dress like I did in the 70’s if I wear brown. Basically I’m channelling to be Iris Apfel 😂

I will definitely check that out thank you!

I couldn’t wear those pleats with my hips Grin

BedlingtonFloof · 28/10/2025 13:23

I think the yellowness makes it look a bit cheap. I've seen slightly more muted ones around which are better, but of course, I can't now remember where.

CharlotteCChapel · 28/10/2025 13:42

My friend has the silver version and she looks really good in it.

Purplecatshopaholic · 28/10/2025 13:51

I wouldn’t suit this shade, but if you do then go for it. Defo an own-the-room skirt though, not for shrinking violets.

MerveilleduJour · 28/10/2025 15:31

I've voted Quality Street, but lots of people love a tin of Quality Street at Christmas, so I'm not sure you should let that put you off! I'm more of a mince pie woman myself...

bridgetreilly · 28/10/2025 16:13

I think that style of pleated skirt is generally pretty unforgiving, but in shiny satin? No way.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 28/10/2025 16:48

I had a silver one but I never wore it because it made me feel like a Dalek.

Vitriolinsanity · 28/10/2025 21:04

I’m embracing the satin midi, but mine are the bias cut straight versions from Zara. Pleats just don’t work on me, but I envy those that can.

pizzaHeart · 28/10/2025 21:13

It’s not my shape and it’s not my colour so the skirt is not for me.
However it might be for you.

Im also not sure where to wear it as it’s so “festive” - it feels a bit like a party uniform. In reality I wouldn’t like to wear the same uniform for all my parties. If your lifestyle involves a lot of events for wearing it : parties, theatres, nice dinners, etc it’s different but in my house it will be our just once a year 😆
