I need flat boots to wear with dresses or skirts

I'm late 40's, always wore block heeled knee high boots in the winter, with skinny jeans, skirts, dresses, etc. (I am 5ft 3) I now have no movement in my foot due to osteoarthritis and heels are now a definite no (I'm so sad) ((I've sold all my heels))

I need some boots but totally unaware of styles, what's in, etc. HELP!

My DH tried and bought me some flat designer ones last year, but they have a thin sole and I struggle to walk round the corner in them due to pain, my foot does not bend and my big toe is bone on bone,,,,,,, and they are quite dressy so more a going out boot.

I need something with a bit thicker sole but I don't like platform.

Can anyone suggest anything please.

Hush puppies have lots of boots on their website and they're very comfortable and well made in my experience

Doc Martens or Chelsea boots go with anything.

I swear by my Rieker boots - have3 pairs, ignore stuffiness of these!! Flat, good thick ridges soles, zips up side plus cross cross lace ups up front so kind of a biker boot look!! Around£110 on average- I discovered when we lived in Denmark - nice and wide too for those of us with fat feet!!

Doc Martin's are not for everyone. I have the most normal, average feet imaginable and the only pair I've ever had were the most painful footwear I've ever owned.

I'd suggest Lanx or Joseph Cheaney flat lace up ankle boots. They do Chelsea boots too but I prefer lace-ups.

Fitflops have good structure but not too stiff... or heavy ..i would think dms are too heavy.. i would also suggest lace up fastening as holding your foot in place can be important for support...
Birkenstock? Good shape for feet ... I have awful feet and these plus Hoka were the brands siggested by my foot surgeon...

I love Moshulu for boots. Great prices, fine for walking and last well

HumBumBum · 17/10/2025 18:37

You need a sole that doesn’t bend at all (I have a similar condition) are Birkenstocks comfortable for you?

Devilsmommy · 17/10/2025 18:40

Heavenly feet do gorgeous flat boots with a thick sole. Slight wedge on them if you want a bit of height

henlake7 · 17/10/2025 18:53

I'd just look for something plain black and slightly chunky, that would probably look good with most things (and it sounds like you need comfort rather then the most fashionable option).

My favourite winter boots are just some small lace up snow boots I bought from Amazon. They aren't fashionable but they blend in with most outfits and more importantly I can walk miles in them comfortably.

If soft but supportive foam soles would help than Ecco make some great boots.

These soles are great.

Gabor are usually extremely comfortable.

Fly London are the best boots you will find!!

Ooh yes, I got some Chelsea boots a few years ago; they’re very comfy and cosy and look stylish.

Another vote for Gabor.

I also had a very comfy pair from Jones Bootmakers which lasted for years.

Another vote for Lanx
