Please explain tubing mascara to me

I've seen it written about, but I don't really understand it. It doesn't smudge, but it just wipes off with water?

Also, does it add volume to lashes, or length, or both? And is there one you would recommend?

Do you just apply it like normal mascara?

Thanks!

I used to use the one from blinc but it dried up very quickly and didn’t last more than a couple of months. My favourite is Victoria Beckham’s. Very silky going on and lasts all day. Tube lasts more than 6 months so great value for money.

Can you provide a link for the VB one? I quite like the definition that Blinc gives but always up for trying something new.

Are you not supposed to get a new mascara every 6 months or so because of chance of eye infection? I could be wrong though.

TheMimsy · 16/10/2025 18:47

It is the work of Gods. I rub my eyes all
the time.

So when i do wear makeup I forget I’ve got mascara on - with this blessed stuff - no panda eyes.

I use a No7 pro expert one and love it.

If i try to remove it under the shower with just soap and hot water it doesn’t fully work. I need cotton wool and micellar water. I have a charlotte tilbury one.

also i find for the 1st minute or so after i applied it, my lashes are a bit sticky. So i try to keep them open. Then it dries very quickly and i can forget about it until the evening. It stays on its great.

Probably because they say it's tubing but it also has wax in it so isn't true tubing. I bought a tubing one from somewhere and it left black panda eyes, turns out it had wax in it.

Wait, what? Wax? What wax?

It's the wax in mascara that leaves panda eyes behind.

I just looked the Charlotte Tilbury tubing mascara called Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara has wax in it which is why it needs taking off with more than water. OP this is not the mascara for slatterns like you and me 😂

If you are at all concerned about microplastics in the marine and aquatic environments, steer clear.

I fear that there will be a lot more about my life that is damaging to our precious world, than a swipe of mascara.

Well they say it's the little things that add up and small things can make a difference. It's one of those. I don't see why we should add to the problem if we can avoid it.

Sagaciously · 16/10/2025 19:03

I will ONLY wear tubing mascara. I pull it off my lashes to remove it.

My favourite that I buy on repeat is Glossier Lash Slick.

Namechangesecretsignature · 16/10/2025 19:03

Wtaf im normally ahead of time with products but I have never heard of this!!!

WithIcePlease · 16/10/2025 19:04

The best one I have tried is the Victoria Beckham mascara. Splash warm water on your eyes and it falls off in individual tubes.
If DD uses a lot on her eyes, it can come off as one complete cast 😳
It's strangely satisfying to see all the tubes floating about in the basin

Scully01 · 16/10/2025 19:05

Tubing mascara is the only mascara that doesn't smudge on my oily lids. I love it. Easy to take off with just warm water and a cloth too. Most formulations are more natural than the regular types though Ive had some success with one I got off Instagram, this is volumizing and lengthening

Is it waterproof if you swim in it?

Comtesse · 16/10/2025 19:10

I quite like the Elf one.

Ihateboris · 16/10/2025 19:13

Tarte tubing mascara is brilliant. Gives length and thickness.

I know I should throw after 6 months but I don’t. I’d say it lasts about 8 months. I really rate her eyeliner and eyeshadow. I wish I could try samples of her foundation etc as anything I’ve had from her has been great.

If you have a home bargains near you, this is my favourite mascara. It was already only about a fiver in boots, but its a quid in home bargains at the moment.
I really struggle with a lot of mascaras giving me panda eyes, and have tried so many.
Ive converted a few people to this one.

Also my absolute favourite one. I’ve bought 3 in case it sells out. Before that I had a mascara that cost £24 and still smudged.

IHeartFridays · 16/10/2025 21:18

It really really is life changing. Sometimes it’s quite hard to work out if it’s tubing or not - if you look at the removal directions and they say warm water and a flannel is usually a good indicator. My favs are the tarte tubing one, Estée Lauder which every few months is in the boots £10 Tuesdays or the good old no7 one. I really want to try the hourglass one.

I hadn't thought of that, another good reason to take care not to buy it by mistake.

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 16/10/2025 22:34

Unless you have sought out a specialist organic brand or zero-waste brand like Green People, your mascara almost certainly contains microplastics, regardless of whether or not it is tubing. Pretty much any high street or department store mascara will contain microplastics.

EndlessDistraction · 16/10/2025 23:16

Interesting, I've switched to the Rimmel Kind and Free one recently because it is vegan, recycled packaging etc but hadn't considered microplastics.

I agree that it's life changing
After years and years of having to sort out panda eyes, I can now even take an afternoon nap in my eye make up and not have to deal with fallout.
So tubing mascara and Sephora eyeliner has indeed changed my life

Hanschristiananderson · 16/10/2025 23:33

Oh my goodness I had no idea mascara contained microplastics.
