Registry office wedding witness outfit

Gerbera55 · 07/10/2025 16:49

Hi! I’ve been asked to be a witness at a very small registry office wedding in a couple of weeks. I have no idea what to wear! I had a c-section a couple of months ago which doesn’t help matters, I have no idea how to dress my postpartum body!
Suggestions are very welcome! I’m around a size 12, boobs on the bigger side. I’m quite short and have narrow shoulders. I have dark hair and fair skin. Ideally wouldn’t like to spend over £50.
Thanks!

This is pretty:

Tu dress

This is magnificent: (would it need shortening?)

Zara dress

This is a combination of the two above:

Zara dress 2

And if you don’t have one, borrow an oversized blazer to wear over your shoulders.

Do you know what the bride and groom are wearing so you can pitch it at the right level of fancy? Some couple still wear a traditional big dress and suits for a small registry office ceremony but others go much more casual or scaled down version of bridal wear. You don’t want to out dress the bridge or look like you haven’t made any effort!

Ooh yes I like the second one!

Good point! Scaled down bridal is how I’d describe it, high street wedding dress! So still traditional white but not a huge affair.

That green dress is lovely and a great colour for an autumn wedding. I think the others are too casual and too black.

MiddleAgedDread · 07/10/2025 19:00

How short are you? As in, do we need to be in the petite ranges?

5ft 4ish - I have a short torso and longer legs.

Also, try and buy something you’ve already got shoes and accessories you can wear with to save on cost.
or borrow from friends, my “wedding handbag” has been used more times by other people than me and it came from a charity shop!!

MiddleAgedDread · 07/10/2025 19:25

I’d try that green dress if you like it. If the weather is cooler you could wear it with black opaque tights and a black cardigan and even ankle boots if you don’t want to be too dressy.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 07/10/2025 21:12

I did a google lens search on that dress. It and variations of it appear on several dodgy sites including Amazon and Temu.

Very similar dress from Temu priced at€11

The second, midi length Zara dress is so much nicer and looks far more expensive than it is.

Ashford London/ Ashford Clothing have featured on two recent threads. Avoid. They're a drop shipping site selling stuff from China.

The Ashford London dress is my fave style wise but it had a weird AI model - it doesn’t surprise me that it’s available cheaper elsewhere! The first two dresses in previous link I liked. The third will be very short - I have a similar dress from Zara and it barely covers my arse.

Ashford London is seriously dodgy.

[I think it's also terrible but, each to their own- the Zara dress is gorgeous. The Tu one's good too]

Gerbera55 · 07/10/2025 21:45

Okay good to know to avoid the site but it’s given me an idea of a dress! I may pop to Zara at the weekend to see if I can find those dresses in store, I always struggled with Zara sizing pre-pregnancy so not a clue what size I’d be now!

This is beautiful!

I’m pretty sure that an MNer recently discovered the hard and expensive way that Ashford London are drop shippers of cheap Chinese goods. There was an S&B thread about burgundy work shirts for her husband about a month ago. What she received was nothing like what she expected from the photos, expensive and difficult to return.

Read this before ordering from Ashford London

There's a gorgeous red velvet dress on the Roman site -I have an eye on it for myself.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/10/2025 19:37

That plum dress seems two sizes too big for the model. I also suspect it would hit the leg in an unflattering place on someone a bit shorter, but I suppose that can be fixed.
