Is this dress too much for a 50 year old?

I'm a size 12. Not especially busty. I'm just nit sure if the lacy bit around the badice is a bit much for an old bird like me...
Thoughts please

I like it and I’m a bit older - if your figure is like the models it will look great - I think the lace is quite discreet

Lou802 · 05/10/2025 18:24

It reminds me of those wedding dresses with cut out bits that they put lace in and I don't like those tbh. I wouldn't wear it though (50) because it's so plunging.

If you think it will look nice on you though then go for it, it's only a black dress at the end of the day, not exactly the most outrageous thing you could be wearing!

FontainesDH · 05/10/2025 18:54

I'm older than you but wouldn't wear it as I'd think it would age me. The style is simple, not interesting or edgy enough for me but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it and if it fits you well, go for it.

HeadsWinTailsLose · 05/10/2025 19:07

I’m 54 and I’d wear it. I don’t have any kind of cleavage, 34B I’d just want to be sure any bra wouldn’t show.

Radionowhere · 05/10/2025 19:09

No, I like it. A nude slip might work if the lace bit is too sheer

BitOutOfPractice · 05/10/2025 19:10

I’m 58 and think It’s a beautiful dress that I would love to wear. It’s perfect for the occasions you mention.

go for it.

Nanof8 · 05/10/2025 19:16

I'm 66 and would wear it.

childrenwatchthefools · 05/10/2025 19:21

It’s really nice! Buy it, wear it, you’ll look fabulous

Schoolstressed · 05/10/2025 19:37

I’m 50 and I’d wear it, I think it’s gorgeous.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 05/10/2025 19:41

I’m nearly 50, I wouldn’t wear it personally because of the lace and the low cut. I do tend to dress more modestly now.
but I have friends who would wear something like that and they’re mid/late 50s

MoominMai · 05/10/2025 20:30

whatwhatwhatisgoingon · 05/10/2025 17:25

I think 50 isn’t “old”. I would wear it and you should too!

Exactly! @Sidneysays Also it looks really good on the model who isn’t particularly busty either - in fact I’d say perhaps it looks even better because of that for that particular style and neck line.

reversegear · 05/10/2025 20:31

50 and I’d wear it at 70 if I was 70 it’s perfectly fine and lovely

BettyBobble · 05/10/2025 20:35

It's fine. Not my taste but it's fine

trixie1970 · 06/10/2025 18:16

50? Old? Er.....nope!

Beautiful dress though, at any age

Cantabulous · 06/10/2025 18:26

I’m 62 and would wear that very happily

ZaZathecat · 06/10/2025 18:48

I'd wear it and I'm iny 60s.

TheChosenTwo · 06/10/2025 18:51

50 isn’t too old!
I wouldn’t wear it as my bra would show through and my boobs are wayyyy too saggy to not wear a bra!

gottalottodo · 06/10/2025 18:55

No way! It’s stunning and classy, wear it!

Hdpr · 06/10/2025 18:59

I’m 49 and I love it!

Throwitawayagain · 06/10/2025 19:11

Does it suit you? It's fine. I'm late 40s and wouldn't wear it as tbh it seems a bit frumpy (sorry can't think of a less sexist word!).

MyElatedUmberFinch · 06/10/2025 19:17

Sidneysays · 05/10/2025 17:51

So would maybe wear it out for a birthday dinner and also maybe NYE.
I think the shape would suit me. I have a similar shaped dress in satin which looks nice on. It's just the skin showing I'm not sure of

If you hadn’t mentioned age in your post I wouldn’t have thought of this as a young dress. I think it’s lovely especially for going out around Christmas time and NYE etc.

Siriusmuggle · 06/10/2025 19:28

I’m 50 and I wouldn’t wear it. That style looks awful on me and makes me look frumpy. I don’t dress my age though, I prefer a more fitted dress.

TwistyTurnip · 06/10/2025 19:34

It’s very classy. Go for it OP!

GreatGatsby212 · 06/10/2025 19:38

Its lovely, you're 50, not 150! Totally appropriate if you like it and feel comfortable in it.
