My frizz in all it's glory

Or should I blow dry it smooth? It works well smooth but I usually just tie it in a clip or have an updo day to day.
It is natural colour, mousy with brighter highlights probably from sun, lots of frizzy bits, some stuck in neck of my teeshirt here so not the best pic!

No idea if this is curly or wavy, so would like some opinions, god help me, if anyone has the time Grin
Would you say the frizz is a bit too much? Am not looking for products just advice on how you'd wear it really. I've tried all the defrizz stuff and settled on what i have. I did not brush after washing and adding a light frizz cream so this is it in all it's glory.

I am not fond of the over-done look and I am very lazy so it would have to stay like this, maybe I should add a lightweight oil or serum. Or just blow dry it, lol.

It looks dry here but is actually very fine and soft to touch.

I would say that it’s wavy rather than curly. It’s a very similar wave pattern to mine, but I tend to straighten mine

ThreeTescoBags · 24/09/2025 23:07

Your hair is beautiful! I'd recommend Charlotte Mensah manketti hair oil (if I was forced to pick my favourite hair and beauty product of all time, this would be a top contender). You only need a tiny, tiny drop and as a bonus it smells amazing. I have slightly dry frizzy hair (albeit mine's very think and very straight) and I use the oil on the days I can't be bothered to get the straighteners on it, it tames the frizz but in a way that looks natural.

SkaneTos · 24/09/2025 23:19

I agree with many of the previous posters.
Your hair looks great! Lovely waves/curls, lovely colour.

In real life, hair looks like hair. It's rarely completely smooth and "perfect". It's normal to see the strands of hair.

Again, you have great hair!

wavecurlnoidea · 25/09/2025 00:06

Thanks so much! I will keep it this way for a while and see how it goes.

It's been a harsh summer for my hair, the humidity did quite a number on it and I spent most of those month putting it up in a claw clip because there was a veil of flat frizz all over. Since the weather became cooler it has calmed down a lot, so hoping for more improvement as I keep my eye on moisture and treating it gently.

Lovely wavy hair and looks like a very similar texture to mine , I have tried lots of different products and now just stick to leave in conditioner which really helps activate the wave , I like this one https://www.lookfantastic.com/p/as-i-am-leave-in-conditioner-237ml/11321483/?switchcurrency=GBP&shippingcountry=GB&affil=awin&sv1=affiliate&sv_campaign_id=259955&awc=2082_1758820863_654940b8b0ce6c53a34ffdab052c35a8&utm_content=Genie+Shopping+CSS&utm_term=CSS&utm_source=AWin_259955&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=AffiliateWin

My hair is only shoulder length at the moment but is much curlier than when it was similar length to yours. It’s very messy in this photo and due a wash but this is just leave in conditioner

Your hair is so healthy! I would love to know how people manage to get such shiny curls/waves.
I haven't used leave ins often, although I think I have a tony&guy one in the drawer somewhere. I might slosh some on with my next wash!

Beautiful hair. I am quiet envious.

Stars2theside · 25/09/2025 23:06

Hi! My hair is curly and very fine! I used to suffer a lot with frizz and used lots of products! It made it worse! I randomly seen the video about how Zendaya does her hair - and realised her hair was so like mine! So I used her method and I’ve had zero frizz since! Also, my hair is coloured. It’s literally just use a wet brush with conditioner after shampooing, then I come out and use a curl cream (I just use a cheap one called Creighton’s from Home Bargains) and I’ve used ALL sorts of expensive stuff! Then I use a wide tooth comb to comb it through my hair, scrunch the bottoms and diffuse it! I don’t even always diffuse it if I can’t be arsed 😂 but it works and is sooo easy!

DiscoNights · 25/09/2025 23:16

I really like your hair. It would look nice with a balayage or some baby lights.

furMum19 · 25/09/2025 23:30

Have you tried a treatment called Kerasilk? The way it is applied is through straightening the product into your hair, it is not a straightening treatment but it smoothes it and removes frizz. It is very different to the keratin straightening treatment and not to be confused with it! It might be worth trying by a kerasilk smoothing finishing serum which you can get for £10 and see how you go with that if you don’t want to fork out for full kerasilk treatment. I’ve had it done so my hair looks less messy when I wake up and I see to accumulate frizz over night! Worth a google for more info. Your hair is lovely btw 😊

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/09/2025 23:54

Your hair is is gorgeous. I'm really jealous. I used to have curly hair that was just about manageable wtih products. But gradually over the years 2 pregnancies, perimenopause and general ageing (meaning permanent chemical dye for a number of years after henna no longer worked) mean my hair is now just a frizzy, porous mess, with barely any curl and it doesn't even hold dye properly anymore so the colour looks terrible after just a few washes

I've tried loads of hair products over the years, and unfortunatley I've discovered that quite a few iirritate my skin a bit, both on my scalp and on my face. So now when my hair is at its worst, I am stuck with having to use as little product as possible so no leave-in conditioners etc, and it SHOWS.

Only about 10 years back it looked like @TheOliveFinch 's hair.

Daftypants · 26/09/2025 09:26

Lovely hair , with a nice wave pattern and plenty of volume.
My hair is wavy too but a slightly different pattern and not as long as yours
My mum gives me the side eye and moans at me ..” get that blow dried , get the curling tongs “ I don’t think she’s ever said a nice thing about my appearance 🙄🙄
I definitely find it tricky to look “ polished “ but I like my waves .
sometimes what I will do is let it dry naturally till it’s maybe 80% dry ( I get jobs done etc ) then give it a slight finish with a babyliss big hair .
i have a technique that involves twisting the appliance as it dries which still means I have waves .
Or else I comb with a wide tooth comb and tie it loosely , leave it to dry naturally.
i find too many products I’ve tried leave my hair feeling sort of sticky ?

moverinchief · 26/09/2025 11:50

Your hair is beautiful OP and very similar to mine. if you follow each wave/curl it looks like a 2D ringlet. I suspect that with the right products and drying technique, you do in fact, have ringlet curls hiding in there.

I don't do the curly girl method as it doesn't suit my hair, I do a modified version, but it's a good place to start.

My recommendation would be to try Bounce Curl light creme gel. It can be trial and error (everything curly is) but it's got reasonable hold while being lightweight and is easy to scrunch out if you overdo it.

Try drying with a diffuser and imagine a ringlet being pushed up from the bottom and supported while it dries, sounds mad but this really helped me stop waving the diffuser round like a mad thing 😂

wavecurlnoidea · 26/09/2025 11:51

I too find a lot of products sticky, or they make my hair dull and dry. The less I use the better really, I have accepted that it will never be ribbon-like and glossy, it's just what it is.

Thanks for the kind words, because quite honestly I have not received one single positive word about my hair left natural since being a teen. Nothing negative either so I can't really grumble.
I do agree with a PP who mentions products making frizz worse.
I often think it gets frizzier when I give it attention, like it knows I am watching, lol.

Tesco keronics hairspray. An accidental find. And the best hairspray ever. Give it a go.
plus your hair is not frizzy it’s wavy.
also try the umberto gianini range for curly hair. It does actually work.

I found the Tesco Keronics hairspray by accident too. It's been impressive for keeping curls frizz-free. I use it before bed sometimes and it keeps my hair looking great for the next morning.

@wavecurlnoidea , I find most products made my hair sticky or dry too and the more time I spent trying to make it look better the worse it got. Also whether I used products or not it still looks like a birds nest in the morning. I wish my hair was longer like yours but I’m just not very patient at growing it

Mine was a bit worse longer, earlier this year. It doesn't seem to care, it is just moody and will do what it wants.

I discovered a way to help in the mornings (for me and my hair type) is to gently pat (not spray) some water onto the lengths so that it's just slightly damp, not wet. Then add a tiny amount of leave-in or whatever your finishing choice is, and let it dry in two very loose twists at the side of my head (like how kids wear plaits, but a twist not a triple plait).

If I want to add a bit of definition, I don't use a product, I just loop hair around a finger when almost dry and hold it for 10 secs and get a nice spiral that loosens into neater waves. Set with a bit of hairspray.

If you wanted a tighter curl or wave you could hold the spiral in a kirby grip for longer, depending how much time you want to throw at it!

I did a test once comparing the hold and longevity of a finger curl and one created with a heated wand. The finger curl won!

It looks very dry and the ends need a very good cut to get rid of them, not just a trim, also an intense conditioner

wavecurlnoidea · 26/09/2025 15:57

Yes, it's been cut, and is trimmed regularly, and I use very good conditioner. According to my hairdresser it is fairly strong and in decent condition -not that it looks that way Grin

curly hair can look dry depending on the surface texture, if it’s matt it will never look shiny
an intense conditioner would be the worst thing, it’s likely to make her hair limp because it probably isn’t dry
mine can look dry but be over conditioned and need protein

My frizz in all it's glory
wavecurlnoidea · 26/09/2025 22:42

That's true for me, the typical curly girl method makes my hair lank and stringy. We are all just different, even if the main texture is fluffy. The most expensive stuff seems to make mine worse.
It looks dry because it's being its healthy self. How did we get to a point where we think different hair textures to straight are somehow defective?
It looks dry straightened, too, it sure doesn't fall down my back like silk!
That's it's power and that's also it's curse.

@angelspike2025 your hair is a thing of rare beauty. I could never in a million years create that <3

My daughters all have curly hair, it’s almost like horse mane it’s so thick, they all condition it weekly and it’s always very curly, it doesn’t make the hair limp and it’s never frizzy looking
