Your fave black barrel leg trousers?

I'm after a pair and don't know where to start. I have a black tapered linen pair that are sort of that shape, but I'd like something a bit heavier for winter. I also have Lucy & Yak Billie cords but they're not quite what I'm after. Ideally I'd like something in a slightly smarter fabric (not sure what that would be!) with a semi-elasticated waist...does anyone have any specific recommendations, and/or links? Thank you!

I’ve the Uniqlo curve barrel leg ones which do have an elasticated waist - love mine

Seeyouincourtyoufool · 19/09/2025 13:48

They wash really well. I live in mine!

Thank you! How was sizing for you? Reviews says they're generally oversized and it sounds as though a S is fine for 12-14.

I've also found the Lucy & Yak Beau - does anyone have those? I have some of their Billie cords (again, they run big) and I do find them very comfy and well-made.

Interestingly, Beyond Nine deducts £4 for returns, like Uniqlo - I wonder if this is going to become much more common soon.

Is that the ones linked to above, @Ellaone - the Cotton Curve Ankle Trousers? How's the sizing for you please?

I doubt a 12 to 14 would fit a small. Possibly a small size 12. I could probably size down but I prefer a looser fit. I'm 5' 9" and a size 10.

Thanks @Mercurial123 - is that the Uniqlo ones? My question there was about the Beyond Nine ones to @Seeyouincourtyoufool (I think 😂).

They look like the most ugly horrible unflattering things ever. Why do folk jump on these bandwagons. Maybe there are nice ones but most of the photos I've seen are very unflattering even on attractive models.,

these are mine - funnily enough I ordered the other ones in olive on Monday
I’m an 8-10 and small fits me perfectly they wash well as well funny enough I’m wearing them now - I’ll grab a pic if I can in between kid wrangling

Ellaone · 19/09/2025 18:03

You and I have the Mabel Kinney ones as well they come up big so size down - they are also much wider round the leg compared to the Uniqlo in my opinion but I like them both

Ellaone · 19/09/2025 18:04

Linen not Kinney!

Dahlietta · 19/09/2025 18:05

Toast is the answer if you can face the price tag. They don't always have proper black though.

Thanks so much for this thoughtful post @Viviennemary! Must dash, I have to find another bandwagon to jump on.

Sadly I cannot 😂 but you're probably right! I used to get a few bits from there in the sale (20yrs ago) but I can't even face sale prices now...

Thanks! I like these, but I have some beloved Gap barrel-adjacent black jeans that tick this box - I'm currently after something that can look a bit smarter, ideally.

I have these in my Mango basket a the moment, which are sort of similar. Most sizes currently out of stock but I've got the notification on. Hoping they will come back.

I have these and they are very flattering on.

mirrorsandlights · 19/09/2025 23:52

I have Uniqlo barrel leg ones and, although they are very flattering, they are partially made out of something like recycled bottles so I find them very sweaty around the crotch! So avoid if you tend to overheat as I do.

Belmondo · 20/09/2025 08:15

Interesting, @mirrorsandlights - thank you! I've ordered a pair of Beyond Nine Mabel to try so I'll see how that goes before I go ahead with my Uniqlo basket....

This thread has been very bad for my barrel addiction ! I love the Cos ones and am pleased @Belmondo has taken the plunge with the Beyond nine ones I love those too so will look forward to you hopefully reporting back!

I am tempted to get some more jogger style ones as I WFH and am now quite taken with the look of these!

I am 5’ 6.5 and have several pairs of the Uniqlo barrel jersey trousers. The regular ones were fine on me but more ankle length. I actually wanted them to be proper full length so bought the long ones and had them altered. Taking them up did not negatively affect the shape at all. Also, they don’t shrink on washing for the previous poster who was asking. They are also great fabric as they barely crease!

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 21/09/2025 19:56

For the vertically challenged. The Uniqlo ones that I felt were too long on 5’3 me, I ended up just rolling them up and much prefer them that way so just going to stick with regular length. I’m glad I didn’t get them altered.

I've just bought these in the black and mole colours. Very smart. A less exaggerated barrel shape, so work perfectly for work.

For the person talking about how unflattering they find them, for some of us they’re the perfect shape. I suspect in years to come I’ll be the barrel jeaned equivalent of the person talking about “having skinnies prised out of their cold, dead hands”

I have ordered the black and mole coloured ones @NorthFaceofthelaundrypilelinked. Hoping I like them as my beloved crepe Zara work trousers shrunk in the wash 😭

Mine are these - I have posted about them before , was dubious whether the style was for me earlier on
in the year but I now have these in 4 colours!
no elasticated waist but very comfortable and a firm fabric that I would not describe as
jersey so can work as smarter wear.
Such a good price too while you work out how much you like the style !

https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E475344-000/00

my username is unrelated to my large collection of these !

These are very flattering. They’re not jersey, quite stiff material and look smart. But very comfy. I’m 5’6 and the regular length is good.
