HarringtonandHale - has anyone received their order? Or spent months to get a refund?

Maybe I should put this in AIBU because I am asking if this company actually does function as a mail order company? My story is that back in May I came across this online company with apparantly a range of summer linen type clothes in the larger sizes I need and offering discounts. I put in what was for me a large order and received immediate confirmation but in the meantime I had seen a warning about them not delivering and the doubts about the authenticity of the company. Alarmed I tried to cancel online to be told cancellations only accepted withn 6 hours of order (which it was) and the order was being processed. I emailed back to point out my right of cancellation and to ask for a refund. This proved to be the start of a long process where I checked the order to find out it was being sent from China, I repeated my cancellation and refund request, I was assured of their attention and intent to respond within 24 hours , no one responded. I found out the company is based in the Netherlands, the picture on the website seems to be a mock up, there are bad reviews on Trust pilot. And the shipping site now said the order was 'expired'.

Sorry if you have read this far and have a better outcome. Finally I found out because I paid by debit card I could do a charge back from my bank within 120 days of order. I did this by telephone but thought I'd give them one last try and used their website message to tell them and repeat my request for full refund. Much to my surprise I had an email response saying the refund would be made but may take up to 10 days so I thought I'd wait. But today my bank account has been refunded the full amount.

I am so amazed after the ignored emails and do not know if the bank had communicated with them or if a charge back appears as from the company. I will telephone my bank to check but I feel I cannot share with anyone else as I feel a fool for being taken in by them and ordering so much from an unknown company. So I just wanted to ask if I am alone in being taken in or has anyone got their order from them and was it as expected? Thanks to anyone who has read this, I can't admit to it in real life.

I haven’t ordered from this company, but I have read so many posts now about orders being dispatched from China that either never make it or that are so far from what is described that I just wouldn’t touch them. I’m glad you finally got your money back but it wasn’t straight forward.

The Harrington and Hale site is a sea of red flags.

  1. Masses of stock in all sizes and colours.
  2. Everything is "on sale"
  3. Pick any item and do a google lens search- it will be available on many other dodgy sites. See example

4.Obvious fake photoshopped 'shop fronts"

  1. Loads of obviously fake piffle about their history and heritage- they were established in 2004??

They're a front for drop shipping tat from China.

I've spotted this dress that might be a good substitute for the one summery dress I have but can't find and had intended to take on holiday. (I had it...

Thanks so much for the replies. I saw the MN previous posts after I ordered which is why I prompty tried to cancel and the saga started. I absolutely agree with the obvious fakeness of the website which is why I felt embarassed. A good tip about how to check the origin of the goods for sale. Thanks.

I think my main point is that there is the charge back route available if you get nowhere being refunded for undelivered goods. That is for debit card payments, I understand credit card payments have a different system. I am going to find out if it was contact from my bank that prompted the refund or my informing H&H I had started the action.

A good result is it has put me off Internet shopping as I do have more than enough clothes anyway and I have other things to do. Thanks again.

I thought maybe I should give an update. I got a full refund on undelivered goods by a chargeback from my bank. So that was a relief. But on today's Radio 4 You and Yours I heard of a new scam which involves chinese based companies using customer contact details to redirect customer complaints and returns. I thought I should delete my details from the H&H site but when I tried to open it - apparantly a new company! Doris-Jewelry (their spelling) , claiming to be a dedicated craft worker with a picture of an elderly artisan looking person closing down their business after a lifetime of work. Coincidentally the title line or whatever the term states 'founded in 2004' just like H&H. I didn't look at the goods offered beyond an impression of shiny stuff so I can't comment if there is genuine jewellery on sale on the website but I would be very wary of the whole thing now.
