Harrington and Hale dress needed in a hurry

SmudgeButt · 07/05/2025 17:25

I've spotted this dress that might be a good substitute for the one summery dress I have but can't find and had intended to take on holiday. (I had it last summer but don't know where it has disappeared!)

Anyways - thoughts about this. And also has anyone ordered from H&H? This seems so inexpensive I'm worried it will look cheap on. Where I'm going will be hot and I don't do hot so need something light and breezy really. And how likely will it be delivered by next Friday/Saturday if I order today?

Not sure that is a great site! If you image search that dress it turns up on the usual Chinese sites. Their 4.7 on trust pilot is fake. In short, I really doubt they were established in London in 2004 🙂

ANagsHead · 07/05/2025 20:26

OMG! This dress on their site: https://harringtonandhale.co.uk/products/sandra-elegant-italian-fabric-maxi-dress is a blatant copy of Alemais dresses that cost several hundred pounds. The originals are in cotton or linen - this copy claims to be made from Italian fabric - but they don’t say what the fabric is. How dare they???

Angry

Most of the other stuff is vile. Wouldn’t touch them with someone else’s bargepole.

And I’m wondering how you stumbled upon this awful site, @SmudgeButt…

Doubleraspberry · 07/05/2025 20:32

Those photos are fake too. The different colours are not real.

I’ve had decent linen dresses from TU in the past if you want something easy to get hold of. Or M&S actually .

AelitaQueenofMars · 07/05/2025 20:50

Rule of thumb - never, ever trust a site which has the same photo for multiple colours of the same item and they’ve just manipulated the shades digitally. It’s a sure sign you should not be buying from them, and it’s inevitably backed up with poor user reviews!

AelitaQueenofMars · 07/05/2025 21:04

And even that shopfront photo is fake (witness the unhappy customers if you go through to their FB page - I can’t seem to link to it from here). There is no shop! There’s no address on their website, no shop listed on Google Maps, nothing listed at Companies House…avoid avoid avoid.

That's shocking. I've seen that rip off before, but still shocking.

As everyone else says, their stuff, if it arrives at all, will be rubbish.

SmudgeButt · 08/05/2025 04:36

Thanks all for the feedback. I did order a couple of things but will cancel. I guess it's true if it seems too good to be true......

There are so many sites like this coming up on social media. Fabulous looking designs and the web pages look authentic with very British sounding names.

Always check them out on Trust Pilot first is my advice. Mostly people say they're awful and if they ever actually get the stuff, it's cheap, nasty and not as described.

ANagsHead · 08/05/2025 07:13

So I guess you found it on SM? I admit I do find it odd that anyone would have chosen them, when there are about a million other well known, established, mainstream places you could look for holiday clothes.

Did you mean for the end of next week? Most regular online shops would deliver before then.

What size and height are you? Do you have a budget?

AelitaQueenofMars · 08/05/2025 08:04

You’re right, but even Trustpilot can’t be fully trusted tbh. I checked out a clothing site on there the other week that at first glance seemed to have a high TP rating - but actually they’d had a big number of glowing reviews added within a 2-day period, and every single of them was the only review posted under that username. If Trustpilot is serious about ensuring reviews are genuine, it’s not being very proactive about it - an influx like that should be automatically flagged.

There’s such a proliferation of these fake clothing sites that the levels of financial loss to consumers overall must be huge - and what they do receive seems to be just landfill quality - so both an economic and environmental disaster!

AelitaQueenofMars · 08/05/2025 08:05

Ugh, I was responding to *gloriousrhino *and the quote disappeared…

Doubleraspberry · 08/05/2025 08:11

What I find most annoying about them is that I often see pieces I really like, just things that look like they'd be really nice basics, and I know they're not real. I want to be able to buy those clothes made well!

Doubleraspberry · 08/05/2025 08:17

BTW if you don't mind spending a bit more, have a look at Poetry. They do genuinely lovely linen.

Same! 😆

Hi SmudgeButt - can you advise what happened with your order. i am dismayed as recently ordered 2 dresses from Harrington and Hale on a whim (didnt think to check reviews first - stupidly). Now I am horrified by the replies to your initial post. I dont know how to cancel my order. I did send an email to their support email provided re delivery timescale but awaiting a response (have only sent this earlier this morning).
Look forward to hearing from you please.

I think I ordered about 6pm on the 7th, was horrified at the comments so cancelled about 7:30 am on the 8th. I did this as I had seen on their website that cancellation within 24 hours was best as it was more likely to be before the order was actually processed.

After that I got a couple of emails to say my order was being processed and I responded to each to say that I had already cancelled. I also sent them a message to cancel via the website.

About a day later I got an email from them to say they were looking in to it but it might be too late. Because of this I cancelled my credit card just in case they tried anything dubious.

At 3 am (!?!?) on 13th I got an email from them to say they would process a refund but it could take up to 10 days for me to get it. Oddly though the refund was on my card as of the 12th so all good now.

New card and pin received in the post today which is a relief as I'm off on holiday in a couple of days.

@SmudgeButt thanks for letting me know. My payment has gone through already so I think I will just need to wait now and see what arrives (still praying the dresses will arrive and be passable quality) - lesson learnt tho. Have a great holiday!!!😎

CleaningAngel · 25/05/2025 17:49

My friend ordered from them 2 weeks ago, thinking it was a British company in London, nothing has arrived, so she's requested a refund, I told her to raise a dispute with credit card company 🙄

Philomena123 · 25/05/2025 23:33

@cleaningangel the company have been emailing me but I ordered 12th May and no advice still re shipping. I have requested cancellation and a refund. Let's see their response now. I will also raise this with my credit card issuer. Hope your friend is lucky to get a refund.

IchBinPapst · 26/05/2025 05:00

I hate that there are so many of these fake shops popping up on insta ads, with the beautiful pictures and usually a sob story about a closing down sale. Once you know, you know, but they can be very enticing.

Philomena123 · 27/05/2025 15:46

@SmudgeButt
@CleaningAngel I actually received the dresses today. 1 the quality was more thin and silky but the Marissa tummy covering dress was ok quality (it just didn't deal with covering my tummy as I needed). Will have to take the risk to return them and keep fingers crossed!!!
