How do you keep your hair smooth and salon fresh

OP posts:
IncaDog · 30/08/2025 20:17

Hair washed and dried every Monday and Thursday night

Blowdried - this is important - hair left to dry naturally gets greasy

Friday: straight hair
Saturday: straight hair
Sunday: curled
Monday: curled

Tuesday: straight
Wednesday: straight
Thursday: curled

I use Pureology shampoo and L’Oreal Advanced mask

Voduz heat protectant

No oils/dry shampoo etc.

louderthan · 30/08/2025 20:43

Have to wash it every bastard day. John Frieda Radiant Red shampoo and conditioner, no products, blow dry on cool setting. If I’ve washed it in the evening I plait it to sleep in and get nice waves in the morning.

Chazbots · 30/08/2025 20:58

Er, wash it with Head & Shoulders every day, rinse, leave to dry. Comb it once.

All good.

Newlysinglemumma · 30/08/2025 20:59

Wash every day with Pantene repair and protect (have used this for absolute years and it helped my hair so much) blow dry and occasional straighten

heartmatters · 30/08/2025 21:03

Wash and condition twice a week. I use the Aussie stuff.

Hairshare · 30/08/2025 21:06

Wash every third day, small amount of Simple shampoo, no other products.

User37482 · 30/08/2025 21:07

Wash it everyday with herbal essences strawberry and mint shampoo, it really doesn’t need conditioner tbh. In my 40’s, still have hair that gets insanely greasy if conditioner goes anywhere near it. Max I’ll use some olaplex oil which is lovely.

IndigoBluey · 30/08/2025 21:12

I’ll wash, condition and blow dry twice a week, no more and often I do it once a week. I have kinda thick, long, blonde hair and it rarely gets greasy. I enjoy my hair wash days and must say when I was in an office 5 days a week and washing it every night once home, my hair was lank and lacklustre.

I use Olaplex shampoo for blonde hair, sometimes I’ll leave it on like a mask for extra ash colour, then any type of conditioner, right now it is Aussie . OUIO leave in conditioner which I love! Towel squeeze and leave to half dry naturally then section and blow dry.

Butterflysunshine01 · 30/08/2025 22:38

Wash , condition and blowdry twice / sometimes three times per week. Rarely have to use dry shampoo. I do use wide plate straighteners to go over the blowdry but my hair isn’t damaged as I take small sections that I only pass over once with the straightener.
I used kerastase Bain satin 1 shampoo and lait vital conditioner and the kerastase hair oil ultimate elixir in the gold bottle before drying, my hair feels lovely and the shampoo is worth its price! Although I get it cheaper from Amazon!

Chin length bob, weekly blow dry.

in my mid sixties, my hair has never looked this good. Apart from the two hour round trip to keep that weekly appointment , my hair gets a quick brush every morning and honestly even if I forget that one day it still looks pretty good. Not just me saying this, perfect strangers compliment me. Ridiculously spoiled but hey it works.

Nsky62 · 30/08/2025 22:44

Once a week, eco hand wash, all ok

TheCurious0range · 30/08/2025 22:44

If it's a hot day and I'm sweaty I'll wash my hair, if I've been to the gym or for a swim I wash my hair, if I've been putting suncream on a lot and it's made the front bits greasy I'll wash it. If I've had it curly with product in and wake up looking like Russell brand I'll wash it, if I've dried and straightened it I can probably get 3/4 days before I get the burning urge to wash it again, although can get a week without it being greasy I hate the feeling of an unwashed scalp. I just wash condition, use a wet brush, if I leave it to dry naturally I put some curl cream in and finish with serum when it's dry, and never brush it dry.
If I dry and straighten i use a heat protector and will brush it dry if it's straight. I use a hair mask every now and then if it feels like it's getting a bit dry and leave the straighteners alone for a while.

vinegarforeverything · 31/08/2025 07:29

I have very fine hair and I used to wash it everyday.

My hair has improved greatly in that I wash one day (I use very little shampoo but I do use good ones). I alternate my shampoos.

Day 1 I do a quick sweep through my head with the shampoo then rinse. The actual time the shampoo is on my hair would be less than 15 seconds.

Blow dry with product and then use Babyliss big hair.

Day 2 when I go in shower I wet my hair with water only.

Blow dry with product and then use Babyliss big hair.

Day 3 when I go in shower I use a conditioner all over my hair

Blow dry with product and then use Babyliss big hair.

My hair looks best on days 2 and 3 and it's impossible to get to day 4 for me as then the grease appears.

Bio d, previously Ecover

Maddy70 · 31/08/2025 07:36

I use any shampoo and a ketatine conditioner hair washed every other day. Left to dry naturally as now I have chemo curls and it goes frizzy if I dry it

lalaloopyhead · 31/08/2025 07:44

I was everything other day, can sometimes stretch to 3rd day. Im currently using Faith in Nature shampoo/conditioner (lavender one, it smells bloody lovely) and occasional use of Go Ashy shampoo/conditioner which is dark blue to get rid of orangey tone.
I use either John Frieda light serum or Colour Wow money mist, and sometimes extra heat protection.
I blow dry if I'm going straight and sometimes leave to dry naturally if I'm going to curl or have natural wave look.

HollyhockDays · 31/08/2025 07:47

It depends how be what I’m doing! I used to wash my hair every day but it doesn’t really need to so I’ve got out of the way of that. I washed it and blow dried it properly yesterday. I’ll maybe wash it and rough dry it tomorrow for an “on top of it for the start of the week / month” feeling. Then I’ll wash and dry it properly on Tuesday as I have a work event. Then maybe again on Thursday.

TitanicWasAGreatMovie · 31/08/2025 08:07

I am a bleach blond with slightly wavy chin length hair.

I wash and condition with a colour care shampoo/conditioner usually Pantene every other day, or 3 days if I can stretch it out.

Hair oil and a heat protector.

Roughly dry with hairdryer, then either Babyliss big hair if I have time, or straighteners if not.

I use dry shampoo both to extend the time before I have to wash again, and to add a bit of texture.

GameOfJones · 31/08/2025 12:52

I wash my hair every other day.

Head and Shoulders Bare shampoo as it's minimal ingredients but makes my scalp feel squeaky clean. I use a silicone scalp brush too in the shower.

Garnier Hair Food conditioner as it's silicone free.

Blow dry my hair rather than leaving it to dry naturally. No other products on it and I don't use dry shampoo as it clogs up my scalp and I can't bear the feeling of it in my hair.

ThirdStorm · 31/08/2025 13:22

My hair is very long so I only do it once a week. Wash with a coloured hair shampoo and conditioner (currently using tigi). Wrap in an microfibre hair towel then allow to air dry. Straighten. Stays in pretty good shape until day 6/7.

mondaytosunday · 31/08/2025 13:32

I wash my hair with two in one Dove shampoo every other day. Comb through then leave it (I don’t blow dry or use any product). I am truly fortunate that my hair is very wavy and about 15 years ago I found my style that suits it - choppy bob. It brings out the wave and my hair looks great 90% of the time without me doing anything. Only one hair dresser can do it though. I moved four years ago back to London and gave four salons a try. Now drive 70 miles back to my trusted hair stylist!

Belladog1 · 31/08/2025 13:33

I have long slightly wavy hair. I wash it every 3 days or so and condition, blow dry.

I was told not to wash hair daily as it speeds up the natural oils process making hair greasy.

I never blow dry my hair and mine isn't greasy. Too much heat gives hair split ends.

I’m so envious of anyone who only has to wash their hair once a week.
