Silver dress

Gettingbysomehow · 24/08/2025 20:07

I saw this dress in silver in Fatface today and totally fell in love with it but Im 63 and I thought when will I ever wear this Im not a big occasion person Im more into camping and pub meet ups.
So they had a lovely silver skirt which is gorgeous and not so over the top and which I could wear for an evening out.
Any ideas how I could style the skirt so it looks quirky casual rather than dressy? Im quite slim and have waist length hair so I look young for my age and live in Glastonbury where anything goes.

I'd wear the ensemble as is and I am 75. Really nice. Go to the pub in it, or wherever. Why should one always dress down?

AfroDizzyAct · 26/08/2025 01:17

I think that silver dress would be nice for a 63 year old. I don't think it would appeal so much to younger people, actually. I think you should get it. The dress is better than the skirt, imo.

I'm a similar age and have ordered the skirt (through Next, same price in their sale, with my delivery free from Next - they have the dress too). Feel the skirt will be more versatile and I'm not sure about the sleeves on the dress. Also ordered the Fat Face teal jumper with tiny silver sequins which (hopefully) will go with it.

Madchest · 26/08/2025 10:14

Love the dress - is it silver or gold? I have ordered it for an early September wedding - don’t want to hijack your thread - but would love ideas on how to accessorise and what colours would compliment?

Sturtium · 26/08/2025 10:54

Well, ok I just bought the silver skirt! Thankyou! Now I need a top and some footwear to go with it…

OvertiredandConfused · 26/08/2025 10:57

I've just ordered the dress in gold for some Christmas events!

floraldebacle · 26/08/2025 11:05

I just ordered that skirt! I have so many nice jumpers I can visualise with it, instead of the everlasting jeans! Thanks OP 😀😀😀

EscapadeVelocity · 26/08/2025 11:17

@Sturtium you may have missed the rest of the thread? The point being made is that a floaty silver skirt goes with everything - just as much as a pair of jeans.

@MadchestSilver is essentially a neutral colour - you really can put any other colours with it. And the delicate fabric works wonderfully with heavier winter fabrics - tweed, velvet, mohair, cable knits, heavy jersey, faux fur …

It's more gold. The is a silver one but it's floor length and sleevleess.

Love that mohair jumper - I am going to order that as well.

Thanks for responding to the colour - I am pleased it’s more gold - any idea on the length - I am 5’3” but would like it longish rather than knee length?

It will be plenty long enough for you. Im 5 foot 5 and it's a good length on me.

I bought a second hand pleather biker jacket off Ebay for £10 in very good condition and I have a lot of band teashirts that I bought at gigs and never wore plus black boots in the wardrobe from last year so will give that look a whirl too with the silver skirt. Thanks for the suggestion. It's nice to have different looks on different days and I do love a bargain.

Glad you bought both! They're joyful.

After the hell of COVID lockdowns I thought we'd get a full on dopamine hit in fashion but instead we got matching beige knitwear sets.

EscapadeVelocity · 29/08/2025 07:47

Beige knitwear + the unspeakable horror of flesh coloured (if you’re White) leggings.

Madchest · 29/08/2025 10:02

My dress gets delivered tomorrow excited - gutted I missed out on the skirt as well - but will look for something similar.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 29/08/2025 14:21

Have fallen in love with the skirt but it's out of stock in my size. How easy would it be to get taken in as they have larger sizes?

Undergroundovergroundwomblingfree · 29/08/2025 14:21

I've bought the dress too for a Christmas celebration 😄

DailyMaui · 29/08/2025 14:34

well I didn't buy the skirt or the dress but I thanks to this thread I have just bought a pair of lovely green clogs for only £20!

That FatFace sale is a good un.

Very easy, I got a local seamstress to take in my leopard skirt as the only size available was 16 and Im a 12, she did a fantastic job and charged me £18.
She created a new seam at the back and you would never have known it wasn't always there.
