M&S trousers what happened to them?

I went there yesterday to buy some black trousers for work. I. A very standard size 14 everywhere I shop so I didn't bother to try them on until I got home.
The 14 straight leg trousers were enormous and didn't fit at all. They only had long length and they were only just long enough, Im only 5 foot 5.
I bought some regular length skinny fit that ended above the ankle, they are supposed to be full length not ankle skimmers. The leg fit was OK but the waist just hung off.
I need to go back today and get a refund which is a bore.
Has anyone else found the sizing weird?

The fit is awful. I regularly have to size down at least one, sometimes two, sizes. I’m a size 10.
The last 3 pairs I had to send back as they seemed to be modelled with room for a beach all in the tummy area.
I buy long as I’m 5ft 9, and they are only just ankle skimming, whereas they used to be properly long.
Maybe yours were accidentally cut to be cropped, but for tall people?

Gettingbysomehow · 24/08/2025 11:10

They were definitely made to be full length I checked. Luckily I bought them from an actual local shop instead of mail order so at least I can take them back today.
Im glad it's not just me.

Their sizes are quite big in general. I usually size-down.
But, their trousers are nowhere as good as they used to be.

NOTANUM · 24/08/2025 11:15

In a London M&S last week their entire trousers bit had only short length. Something has clearly gone wrong with their sizing.

jamnpancakes · 24/08/2025 11:15

Buying trousers or jeans has to be the worst thing in the world and with so many waist heights and styles now it's even worse. Add to that the current trend - over sized etc then it's a nightmare. On here already we have two people of different heights complaining about trousers not fitting them 🤷‍♀️ . Try being 5 foot 2 😂 . Trying on is a pain that has to be endured .

beadystar · 24/08/2025 11:24

Something is wrong with their sizing. I found a size 8 bigger than a size 10 in the same trousers. A friend bought two pairs of jeans in the same size, different styles- one was too big and the other too tight so both had to be sent back. I wish they’d sort it out.

Meandmouse · 24/08/2025 11:27

I wondered about their sizes too. Have lost some weight and can fit into my old (at least 5 years) size 12 Marks work trousers again. But they looked a bit worn so went to buy new ones. 12 were swimming on me. 10 still big And 8 didn’t look right. Never ever been an 8. It’s so frustrating. And yes only short length in shop

I've bought trousers from M& S fir years. This is a constant problem. There have been times where I've fitted a size 14 in one style and a size 18 in another. The lengths, too, are unpredictable.

dottiedodah · 24/08/2025 11:41

JamPancakes 5 ft 0 ins here. I have to buy their shortest length still too long! Zip Yard is my saviour now .

boxofbuttons · 24/08/2025 11:53

I keep finding them really short (and I'm 5ft4, so not tall). And I've got one pair of jeans in a 12 and one in a 16, both bought recently. So the sizing is definitely a bit off!

unsync · 24/08/2025 11:55

There's no consistency on inside leg measurement either. I have two different jean styles in the same size and the inside leg (measured from top of crotch), differs by 2.5 inches.

Tcateh · 24/08/2025 11:58

My problem seems to be having to size up alot.
Ok I've put on weight but only 7lbs, its also very annoying that my body doesn't seem to look right in any bloody styles anymore.

I'm a 16 now. They all look awful on me. I miss Debenhams, the different brands.
Actually trying them on in store.

Actually I don't think I've ever bought a pair of jeans in marks 🤣

My shape is wrong.

parttimepunk · 24/08/2025 12:01

I bought two pairs of jeans in the same style - same size and leg length supposedly but in different colours. The waist size on one is considerably bigger than the other and there’s about 2 inches difference in the length. So annoying.

Gettingbysomehow · 24/08/2025 12:25

I think if I shop there in future Ill have to go in person. It's such a faff sending it all back. Luckily I did this time.

A funny quote " it's not jeans that are the problem , it's what's put into them" 😂😂😂

Gettingbysomehow · 24/08/2025 16:16

I went back to exchange them and they had no size 12s in the length I needed cross.

MN has always harked on about M&S sizing being "huge". But I just find it inconsistent, black jeans always seem to be smaller fitting than the identical style in another colour. I'm very tall and ordered some wide legged jeans, they were size Long and were a good 5 or 6cm too long, but a good fit otherwise, I re-ordered in Regular same size, they were far too short and tight.

JulesJules · 24/08/2025 16:46

Their sizing is all over the place. I tried some black trousers on in store, I'm 5'6" and the "regular" length was literally a foot too long. Tried two pairs of jeans on of the same size, one too big, the other too small.

Tcateh · 24/08/2025 16:55

Heads up re black jeans, ime some things dyed black do fit smaller purely based on shrinkage in the dyeing process.
I know this from my posh bra fitting days. Black ones often fit more snuggly (painfully!)

YelloDaisy · 24/08/2025 17:01

I’ve bought 3 pairs this summer -I’m a 33” inside leg, their long are perfect for me -no complaints here

notatinydancer · 24/08/2025 17:20

This is the exact opposite to my experience.
The long trousers are very long (I’m 5,9). My last work trousers were the size I always buy , and regular length.
Just normal blue straight ones. Very boring.
.

StickyProblem · 24/08/2025 18:12

I've found M&S sizes to be weird for years. I order online, get it delivered to the store, then try it on while I'm there so if any of the stuff doesn't fit I cam get it refunded then and there.

I've even found that if you buy two of the same item, different colours could be different sizes, perhaps just due to poor quality control, so even if I had something already and wanted another colour I would order to store and try it on.

That's interesting, I have also noticed it with bras funnily enough.

Bayou2000 · 24/08/2025 22:43

I used pretty much only buy M&S trousers as the fitted my shape but the last 18 mths nothing fits.
