M&S trousers what happened to them?

I went there yesterday to buy some black trousers for work. I. A very standard size 14 everywhere I shop so I didn't bother to try them on until I got home.
The 14 straight leg trousers were enormous and didn't fit at all. They only had long length and they were only just long enough, Im only 5 foot 5.
I bought some regular length skinny fit that ended above the ankle, they are supposed to be full length not ankle skimmers. The leg fit was OK but the waist just hung off.
I need to go back today and get a refund which is a bore.
Has anyone else found the sizing weird?

I don’t have any issues. Order on line where theres more choice and rarely disappointed.

realslimshade · 24/08/2025 23:32

No issues really with length - I’m 5ft 10 and wear their long
sizing does seem off, I have a size 14 pair of jeans and a size 22 pair of trousers

That's interesting, I have also noticed it with bras funnily enough.

I bought an M and S black strapless bra a week or so ago same size and style as my beige one and it nearly killed me!

Yay glad the black dye hint was useful!

Buying trousers or jeans has to be the worst thing in the world and with so many waist heights and styles now it's even worse. Add to that the current trend - over sized etc then it's a nightmare. On here already we have two people of different heights complaining about trousers not fitting them 🤷‍♀️ . Try being 5 foot 2 😂 . Trying on is a pain that has to be endured .

M and S sizing has been inconsistent for years, even with the same style in different colours. This is why I never buy online and always go to the store to try before I buy. I usually take about half a dozen pieces into the fitting rooms for this reason.

Luckily I live 20 minutes away from one of their better stores, although I find they seem to regularly not have size 14s in. If I really wanted something I would order as a click and collect, try on in the store then get a refund staright away.

I'm nearly 5'11 and have worn M&S jeans and trousers since I was a teenager, as for a long time they were the only company to make different lengths for women. Imagine my shock when I pulled on a pair of long jeans only to find so much extra length that it pooled round my feet 🤣. I think that is a lifetime first.

TizerorFizz · 25/08/2025 09:15

I’ve rarely found M&S long too long and I’m 5ft 9ins. Usually just right apart from one pair of jeans. Never had to change sizes either! Must be my taste works in their sizes!

RedRiverShore5 · 25/08/2025 09:29

I'm 5'10" size 14 and find the long jeans in M&S are OK in 14L. I do tend to avoid anything that says ankle grazer or 7/8 when buying trousers, with the trousers and chinos I sometimes have to size down to 12L. I find Next sizing very similar to M&S and they are also fond of the ankle grazer length.

SheherazadesSpringNonsense · 25/08/2025 09:34

Funny all the people saying they have to size down - I wear 12-14 everywhere else but my last two pairs of m and s jeans are 16s. Do they cut smaller sizes too big and larger sizes too small?

notnorman · 25/08/2025 09:39

Their sizing has been awful for years according to my mother who is always complaining about them

Iamintheshed · 25/08/2025 09:53

Sainsbury's have caught the same contagion.
Mans work jeans waist 2" different to every other pair of trousers I own. And mismatch with similar chinos. I took a tape when I went back and measured them first.
The right waist has too much material. I sit down and huge bunch of denim in my lap.

That's what I do too. Interestingly there is an article in the DM today about finding the perfect pair of jeans. She's about 6 foot tall and thighs like a giraffe.

Gettingbysomehow · 25/08/2025 12:02

I bought my work trousers off amazon in the end I got so fed up with marks and they never have my size in. They are perfect and much cheaper.
