Think I might buy myself some skinny jeans..

I've been wearing baggy, wide legged stuff since around 2017 now and am bored to death. I am outdoors a lot and can't be bothered trudging through another winter with damp, flapping ankles Grin

Wondering what to wear on feet though, have some lace up docs but would prefer a change, any ideas for a refresh? New ways to wear them?

Am very boring so will likely wear with long wool coats, Barbour jacket or a hiking type fleece.

Chelsea boots look good with all jeans imo

suki1964 · 19/08/2025 21:34

Dealer boots are great for the outdoors - like chelsea but with a sturdier sole - I live in them living rural

LupaMoonhowl · 19/08/2025 21:40

I don’t understand the MN hatred of skinny jeans. The wide leg ones flatter nobody - they are awful! I’m still with the skinnies and you can pride them from my cold dead legs 😀

Doggymummar · 19/08/2025 21:44

I don't know what your question is. I like my Ganni Chelsea boots if you are asking about footwear. Boden do some lovely jeans if you are asking about them

AtomicBlondeRose · 19/08/2025 21:45

I’d save money and go to the nearest charity shop because ALL the jeans in every one I go into are skinny!

evilharpy · 19/08/2025 21:54

Channel Claudia in Traitors, I loved her spanx leggings with those chunky Bottega boots, similar ones would look great with black skinny jeans.

restingintheshade · 19/08/2025 22:04

Thanks!

just ideas for updating them i suppose.
i dont wear jeans often, but I would like to try a different shape so a skinny it is!

fixed that for you Grin....from my op:

When it’s raining and miserable outside I still reach for skinnies tucked into boots. Warm and practical and I don’t think they look too awful. If I’m going out I’ll wear straight leg

Cryingoverspiltmik · 19/08/2025 22:48

May I suggest cropped Levi’s 501? They are pretty slim cut and a little more forgiving shape than full on skinny. I do not own DMs but wear mine with lace up boots and Chelsea boots.

Vodkamartini3olives · 19/08/2025 23:00

Go for it, autumn & winter are skinny jean and ankle boot season. Wide leg are great but the don't like them with boots and I don't want my jeans wet & muddy and dragging on the ground.

Me neither

So I bought some straight legs, moms, boyfriends and other then the slim fitting kick flares, look like Im wearing my DH;s jeans

Not a mission am I wearing wide legs, not at 5ft 2 with no bum or thighs and wearing a size 8 but having middle aged spread , I can fit in one leg ffs

So yep, Skinny jeans it is for me, especially now we are changing seasons

tinyspiny · 20/08/2025 01:16

I live in skinny jeans during the colder months , they suit me much better than wider legged ones .

restingintheshade · 20/08/2025 01:48

I always feel like I look 10 yrs older wearing straight leg jeans, it's something about the unbroken 'columns' of denim, I think.

Then again, our preferred denim is as personal and varied as our tastes in foods I reckon! Grin

What I don’t understand is why there’s such loyalty to any style of jeans. (No need to explain - I’ve heard why many times, I just don’t get it.)
I know what you mean op, about wanting a change from wide legs but I’m still even more bored with skinnies so I won’t be going back to them just yet. What I’ve been wearing this summer are flares, (also once widely touted as the only style that flatters). Really enjoying them again. I’ll probly scale down to boot cut or straight once it’s puddle weather.

No idea how you can update skinnies I’m afraid but my favourite boots at the moment are cowboy boots if that helps

Gymbunny2025 · 20/08/2025 07:09

If I’m wearing boots in winter I always wear them with slim fit jeans.

love the idea of cropped 501 and DM style though.

Gettingbysomehow · 20/08/2025 07:21

I don't think I've ever met anyone who looks good in skinny jeans unless they are a leggy teenager, straight leg or cigarette jeans are so much more flattering.
Even my sister who has a supermodels body doesn't do herself any favours wearing them.
I look ghastly in them because Im slim but curvy.

PuppyMonkey · 20/08/2025 07:25

I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who looks good in wide leg jeans or those terrible barrel and carrot things. Skinny but not too skinny all the way for me.

Cantbleedingcope · 20/08/2025 07:49

I still have all my skinnies though they are ‘stored’ for rare occasions - I quite like them in winter with an oversized jumper and long boots

But OP - have you thought about a slim mum jean with a slightly cropped ankle grazer length? I’ve got a few pairs of these and find they are absolutely bob on with a pair of ankle boots, both flat and heeled and I can dress them up or down really easily.

restingintheshade · 20/08/2025 10:01

I think it is sad how this becomes an argument about whether skinnies are bad/good.

In my OP I mentioned being bored and wanting a change, just like I did many years ago when I was glad to embrace wide legs.

I don't have 'loyalty' to any kind of clothing, just to be clear.
I thought the thread was lighthearted and up for ideas about different ways to style them.
That is all :)

I kind of fancy something a bit floaty now, on top, maybe like a fine knit cardi or even long tweed... I walk a lot and spend most of my time in outdoor gear, so some new jeans in a new style would make life more interesting, lol.

I do like relaxed skinnies, chunky socks, boots - love the tapered cropped ankles of mom jeans too but not so much the top part ..

I will probably buy a pair and regret it asap!

The loyalty comment wasn't directed at you in the slightest op, sorry if you thought it was.
But did you really expect a thread containing the words 'skinny jeans' to be light hearted??

To try and answer your question, I honestly can't think of many different ways of styling skinny jeans. Isn't that kind of the point of them - that they're uncompromising? Or maybe it's all still too close so I can't get past the bretton top and biker jacket memory flashes. But I'll be very happy if I'm proved wrong next time around because it's going to happen sooner or later.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 20/08/2025 10:13

I'm going back to them as well 🤭

restingintheshade · 20/08/2025 10:19

Why ever not?
I am not always in S&B and had no idea such subjects were potentially so contentious. It's just not that important what styles we choose to play with! However, you have already told me that you have no ideas to add, so that's fine. No worries!

OP posts:
Floisme · 20/08/2025 10:23

Oh op, nothing on S&B is more contentious than skinny jeans. Nothing, I tell you.
But I can see I've annoyed you which was not my intention so I will bid you good day.
