D&B night in my 40s: what do people wear?!

I’m going to a D&B night for the first time in nearly 20 years soon. And it struck me that I have no idea what people wear on a night out these days.

Looking at similar events, I see mostly sweaty men in their 20s wearing T shirts. There are young women around but they’re much younger than me and so packed into the boys it’s hard to see what they’re wearing.

Someone please help me find something to wear!

I’m mid 40s, athletic size 10/12, 5’7”, I don’t wear skirts or dresses or heels.

I was thinking of wearing some coated (?) black skinny jeans & black vest and trainers.

I don’t mind looking my age. I expect to get sweaty (alternative is light grey skinny jeans but concerned they’ll show up the sweat). I don’t want to draw attention to myself, just want to blend into the background!

Please help!

Thanks for your suggestions.
I just don’t have the clothes that ‘normal’ people have (or any understanding of how to buy and wear those clothes). I don’t have nice shorts. My legs are good enough in leggings but they don’t need to be out!

I don’t have linen anything, or silk anything.

This is why I need help, because I have the wardrobe and taste of a tomboy stuck in the early 90s and the body of a mid-40s mother.

I don’t have hoop earrings. I also don’t really wear makeup so I won’t be doing any cool eyeliner. (Just my droopy, wrinkly post-eczema eyes).

I’ll wear my dated millennial grey skinny jeans and hack up a t-shirt so I’m not insanely hot in a vest and then I’ll be hot, sweaty, and self-conscious till it gets dark. Just like the early 2000s!

Genuinely though, thank you for trying to help. I know I’ve asked for help and then been the annoying person who dismisses it all anyway. I do appreciate your advice and thought and the effort you’ve gone to to find links. Thank you

If it's an outdoor gig and you think you'll be hot, just wear a vest top, denim cutoffs & trainers. Done.

Avoid anything "naice" - I've been to a few things like this and people stick out for wearing "jeans and a nice top" kinda clothes.

The more casual/sports/leisure you can manage the better.

Those cos shorts are nice but totally not the thing for this occasion.

Honestly that outfit sounds fine!

i was only a month after having a baby when I went to lcd all points east last year op - so was not feeling good about how I looked! I wore long baggy skater boy type denim shorts down way past my knees and an oversized black T-shirt and converse honestly!! Really don’t worry and I hope you have a wonderful day

Can you get to a supermarket OP and get yourself a pair of shorts? Wear with a vest and an open shirt and trainers.

Shorts, or a mini and tights in cold weather, and a vest top, with high top trainers is my go to for stuff like this.

@Username0001what did you wear in the end? Hope you had an amazing time!

Username0001 · 18/08/2025 21:18

I had a great time, thanks!

I just wore black wide jeans & a black vest. It wasn’t that hot in the end. And of course there was the whole range of people and it was fine!
