Am tempted to grab a load of my hair at the back and just cut it off

I'm not doing a Britney, just can't afford to go to the hairdresser and my hair looks really scrabby at the ends.

Could I just hold it back and snip the ends off in one go or would it look too noticeable?

It's past my shoulders, about two inches.

I did this Split my hair like I would for pigtails, then sliced in a straight line along my front (REMEMBER THE HAIR WILL SPRING SHORTER SO ALLOW FOR THIS!!) then got a mate to tidy it up. Won't win any fashion prizes but its much better - its tied up most of the time anyway

if you wash your hair over the bath and bring it all forward sort of over your face.

Cut in a straight line across. about an inch or two above the ends.

Result= layeered hair at the base of your hair. OK it will be in a U shape at the back not straight across, but the ends will be tidy

I posted about this a while ago - somebody posted a Wikipedia link about cutting your own hair. I didn't do it - and my hair is still a mess - maybe we can form a cout-your-own-hair-club.

Actually, my hair is really annoying me. I thought it would be easier to manage if I kept it long, but it's so fine I still have to style it even if I want to tie it back.

I've done it and it's a big big mistake.

I did mine, it is okay, looks less bad than it was before, I split it to each side and trimmed, then I took an inch off my layers, if your hair is long and it is just a trim it is not hard to do.

I also cut/trim my son's hair and I am getting quite good, though the bit around his ears is very tricky to do... he has sn and the local hairdressers are less than sympathetic, he hasn't been since august last year, neither have I, I suppose I should be banned from this part of mn...

well looking at your picture on your profile I think cut your hair yourself so you can save for some new makeup. I don;t want to be negative but you really can see where your foundation starts and ends.

I haven't done mine yet expat. I was too tired last night. I am so tempted to go really short.

I'd put it in a high ponytail, flick it to the front and cut the ends off.

i do my own, agree sharp scissors. mine is curly so it doesn't matter what i do.
