Nobody’s Child Starlight dress around £65

Converse around £35

Coach leather bag £125

Le Pliage around £57

I love the look of those dresses on other people but when I tried one on it was really oversized on the shoulders. Loved he fit around the bust though.

I'm back from holiday. I meant to post last week as I was obviously wearing very different clothes to normal but didn't quite manage it.

Emerald green Hobbs blouse £80
Black Max Mara trousers £285
Black Hobbs blazer £80
Black Gucci loafers £585
Black Mulberry handbag £800

GarlicMetre · 28/07/2025 13:39

I got this from Roman at £25.50. In a light, floaty faux linen, it's very 1970s (though the edges would've been hemmed instead of overstitched) so I'm wearing it in the style, knotted at the front with dark wash jeans.

Strangely, I don't look like I did 50 years ago 😂 but this thing is a pleasure to wear.

I’m wearing a floral pink shift dress (€3) and a pair of Roxy leather flip flops that are about 10 yrs old - think they were £25. They are battered but that’s how I like them.

Vodka!

You won't believe the number of years I have felt dowdy and frumpy with no sense of style. Of course when the kids were young I couldn't afford this kind of stuff and I wore mostly George from Asda, Debenhams & Dorothy Perkins. Back then I found those brands really good quality. Dd has clothes from Primark & H & M that are 8 years old and still look good but clothes from there bought 1-2 years ago look like rags. It;s a sad fact that in general prices have risen and quality has declined. Go figure! I do buy a lot in sales and also 2nd hand and I try to think of cost per wear. I've recently bought quite a few bits from Uniqglo so fingers crossed for their longevity. Last year I finally threw a cardigan away that was 25 years old. A lot of the luxury items I have were presents for special occasions.

But back to vodka.

I have a hand wash/wool/silk wash setting on my washing machine that a lot of stuff goes in but for other stuff I use the theatre costume vodka trick. The very old Jaeger trousers I wore yesterday go in the washing machine. They are polyester and I figured they would be ok. The only things I don't risk are viscose.

Turn the clothing inside out and spray with neat vodka. Then leave to air overnight. This neutralises the odours & bacteria. I spot clean any marks etc and only send things to dry cleaning after a lot more wears. It's a trick from the world of theatre.

I thought the same...very chic sounding. I assume these are work outfits? Or do you dress like this if just spending the day pottering around at home? Sorry I'm only asking because I feel like a massive scruff reading some of these 😂

Comefromaway · 30/07/2025 12:45

Pottering round at home I tend to wear jeans and a t shirt or in the summer Uniqglo floaty skirt or Seasalt dress.

For years I wore only M&S trousers at work. Then they changed the style and they don't seem to fit me any more. Even if I buy short length they are either too baggy round the bum or they make my stomach look big. I'm still wearing one pair of M & S trousers that are about 7-8 years old but they are starting to look a bit worn now.

FurForksSake · 30/07/2025 12:54

There an insta account called on my marks I’ve just started following after a recommendation on another thread, she’s got some great outfit inspo. She appears to wear bodies under a lot of her outfits, not something I’ve ever considered for everyday wear (do you wear knickers with them?!) but they I’m sure make her look more put together somehow.

Comefromaway · 30/07/2025 13:01

I love the look of them but I get very uncomfortable with the poppers. I'm very sensitive to this kind of thing. On holiday I went into town in my swimming costume (green from Sainsburys in a similar kind of material to the Hunza G ones) and my floaty white skirt with an open linen blouse on top and I liked how it looked

I’ve seen people wear bodies and you can see that they are just loose and the poppers not closed.
