Carrot Trousers - dare I?

BlueShed · 08/07/2025 16:35

To be clear, I have no right on the S&B board, but I value the opinions as I try and scrape some sort of presentability into my everyday appearance. Point made by the fact I have never heard of Carrot Trousers before today, but searching this here finds mentions of them going back years.

Can I wear these? I need something for summer other than my wide leg linens. I’m a short 5’4” overweight size 16. I know they don’t do anything for my arse, but that’s beyond salvation at the moment anyway. Can I wear these or are they horrific?

P.S. Front photo is the longer length, can’t recall if rear photo is the same pair or shorter length so ignore any variation there.

Of course you can !! I’d roll them slightly at the ankle and enjoy them .

Agree! They are a little long - so i'd wear them shorter, and maybe tuck your top in. You can definitely wear them and your arse is completely fine!

Unicornsandprincesses · 08/07/2025 17:20

I have no business being on S&B either but I’ve got 3 pairs now and will never look back.

BeetledBrow · 08/07/2025 17:39

The shape is fine, (maybe a bit big at the top) but you need better colours. Those muted shades do you no favours. (I have no idea how I can tell from headless photos - but I can.)

Will you forgive me if I suggest setting fire to your top? The sleeves are unspeakable, the colour drab, the length less than ideal. (I am aware you didn’t ask!)

MascaraGirl · 08/07/2025 17:50

I thought you meant carrot-coloured trousers! But as you don’t, then I agree with the poster who suggested rolling/cuffing them slightly

BlueShed · 08/07/2025 19:26

Thanks for the replies! That was the regular length pair (from the front, at least). This is the shorter length. For some reason I thought the longer ones ‘hung’ better. I’m not sure I can roll them much due to fat calves!!

Ref. colours, I wanted something not just dark which is my usual comfort zone. And the top was one I was trying on, I didn’t buy it!

Buy the longer ones and just a couple of turns up . Most trousers this shape look better with a rolled ankle .

ExitPursuedByABare · 08/07/2025 20:48

What are carrot trousers?

Doyouthinktheyknow · 08/07/2025 20:50

I think they look nice! I like them a lot! I do think it’s a flattering trouser shape for lots of women.

TeflonMom · 08/07/2025 20:53

I love my carrot jeans. They’re from m&s and they come in lots of colours and different lengths

Gymbunny2025 · 08/07/2025 21:16

I really like them. And the colour. Definitely the shorter ones imho. They suit you

What are carrot trousers?

Confuses me too!

Aren't they just tapered trousers?

ladygindiva · 08/07/2025 21:33

Yes go for the trousers but with a shorter length top

AllAboutTheWrinkles · 09/07/2025 08:13

That was an awful lot of insults you threw at yourself in one paragraph. You have a perfectly normal body, the trousers suit you and carrot is a style I personally find really comfy. I think you need the longer length with even one roll, but two if you can manage. You are right that the short isn’t quite right. I’d also try one size down to see if they fit, they look slightly big but if you feel the size down is digging in then I’d go for these. Slightly shorter top would hit you in a better place and make the outfit more cohesive. Next are doing something they are calling a boxy cropped jersey tee this year. They aren’t truly cropped in that they cover my waistband but they are doing something magical to my waist.

GameOfJones · 09/07/2025 16:04

Definitely buy them. I'd get the longer length ones and roll them at the ankle once or twice, and tuck your top in.

Mercurial123 · 09/07/2025 16:52

Are they elasticated waist? I don't find them flattering there are better options.

What are carrot trousers?

I genuinely thought they were going to be orange 😂

MyLov · 09/07/2025 17:33

I am a similar size and height to you with big bum/big hips (and now big tum, thanks menopause!!) and I am going to go against the grain here. Tapered trousers just emphasise big bum or hips. I look better in shapes like harem pants, bootleg, even skinnies rather than tapered. Those trousers also make your bum look super saggy, plenty of trousers do that to me too so I just don’t wear those. You can definitely find something better than those! Don’t think you have to settle for a saggy looking bum!!

I’d also watch wide leg trousers, on someone short and overweight (like me!) they can make you look much bigger - as can any tops that are too loose, don’t give you a waist, or end too far down the hip.. I used to wear wide leg trousers as a pear shaped person when I was slimmer (8-10) they looked great, but they don’t work at all now I’m bigger. They just make me look shorter and fatter!

I need something with a waist, and balancing out of hips bum in the leg. Anything tight needs a bit of bum lift to shape.

minipie · 09/07/2025 17:41

Tapered trousers yes. To my surprise they look better than wide legs on me, I think because I am small. I think you can do better than those though - there’s too much fabric especially at the front.

I am 5’3, I recently bought these and I love them.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 09/07/2025 17:47

They’re fine. Not sure what’s summery about them though?

minipie · 09/07/2025 17:50

I also bought these but in white and would recommend if they still have yr size

Undethetree · 09/07/2025 18:22

These trousers look great including colour.
Get the longer length, roll the ankle and agree with PP who suggested a cropped t-shirt or tucked in top, trainers or sandals.
You look great, enjoy!

These are gorgeous 😍 seems to be completely out of stock though

DisplayPurposesOnly · 10/07/2025 07:49

I'm surprised at so many people saying these suit you. I'm with the few that think they look awful (sorry) - far too much material at the top, like you're wearing two sizes too big.

If you have a looser fit trousers, I think they'll look better with a more fitted top.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 10/07/2025 07:51

Minipie's linked New Look ones are much better - less blouson-y.
