Cotton dresses to help stay cool

Hi I’m struggling to find cotton dresses that are cool in hot weather . I’m quite tall 5 7 and don’t really like tight round the waist or shoulders exposed . Any ideas ?

Surprised you're finding it difficult, even in Marks & Spencer's loads if you just search cotton dresses

I agree M and S is a good source for this sort of dress. I like loose shirt-style dresses for the summer and often can’t find the style I like but M & S do them - this sort of thing https://www.marksandspencer.com/linen-rich-collared-midi-shirt-dress/p/clp60721545#intid=pid_pg1pip44g2r6c1

For anyone even slightly sweaty, cotton is useless in hot weather.

You need linen. So go to your favourite sites and filter for linen.

Or, surprisingly, mesh fabrics which are wondrously cool.

Actually my menopausal go-to in hot weather is neither cotton or linen. Far too faffy. It’s viscose which is still a natural fabric.

I always buy 2 sizes bigger because it shrinks like billio but it’s featherlight and ‘wafty’. I live in cheap summer dresses from H&M and ASOS.

The uniqlo heatec dresses are amazing!! Very recommended for pregnancy and general sweaty ladies!

Agree with viscose being cool - mix it with linen or cotton and you're on a proper winner. H&M and Asda this year for me.

Aha cross post re Aspiga

Sainsbury’s. But everywhere is full of this sort of thing at the moment. Do you have specific criteria which are limiting your options?

Seersucker is cooling

Linen all the way for meno ladies.

Loose, long, wafting with short sleeves for me. Thin cotton. Linen does crease though. Pockets a big plus.

Branleuse · 27/06/2025 18:41

i like the ones from asda, which always seem to have decent amount of boob-room too compared to some places

Friend had lovely one from Tesco last month. She's bought two from Primark today which she says are lovely.

That sounds perfect. Where from?

M&S last year, then summer washout in Wales so they were never worn 🙈🤣

Just Google summer dresses with pockets, then use filters for fabrics. Elsewhere someone said White Company had some lovely ones and John Lewis. Oh and JD Williams

I wish I could wear linen but I find it really scratchy. I also look like I've slept in it after 5 minutes of wear!

EAST. Their sale has just started. Floaty voile long frocks.

Bessica · 27/06/2025 22:40

Uniqlo Airism range and also anything they do with built in bras. Absolute godsend in this heat.

Houndsahollering · 28/06/2025 07:46

The Boden jersey cotton dresses are lovely and don’t make me overheat

deeahgwitch · 28/06/2025 08:24

Try KitandKaboodal.
They have a great selection.
