Hi I’m struggling to find cotton dresses that are cool in hot weather . I’m quite tall 5 7 and don’t really like tight round the waist or shoulders exposed . Any ideas ?

Boden have some nice dresses and are having a sale

HevenlyMeS · 28/06/2025 20:07

Thank you immensely
I didn't know cotton is useless for keeping us cool just presumed when I wear cotton & I'm suffering from the heat still, it was down to my autoimmune & my body being unable to regulate my temperature
Thank you again immensely much so
I'm going to seek linen now
God Bless You&Yours

nzeire · 28/06/2025 20:12

So odd… I find linen HOT and cotton cool?!

HevenlyMeS · 28/06/2025 21:42

Oh My Goodness it's so surreal how unique we are
I've just ordered a linen 2 piece following reading it's cooler than cotton 😅
I remember my Beloved Mum wearing linen outfits but don't remember wearing linen myself
I'm wearing cotton at the moment & I'm sweltering but much I presume's to do with my autoimmune making it impossible for my body to regulate my temperature
Thank you for your enlightenments

I wear a lot of COS dresses. The quality is good and they’re reasonable in the sale. Ignore what they look like on the models!

'I didn't know cotton is useless for keeping us cool'

I wear nothing but cotton in the heat - it's a breathable fabric so works great. Linen also breathable but creases and looks like rags in no time

HevenlyMeS · 28/06/2025 22:39

Yes I presume it really does just depend on every unique individual requirements
I'm also completely new to hearing cotton is useless for keeping cool
However it seems no matter what I wear, my body's unable to cool my temperature 🙏

Cotton thickness varies a lot. Fabrics like tana lawn is cool, brushed cotton or needlecord is warm.

I'm wearing a cotton shirt.

greengreyblue · 29/06/2025 09:45

I was in Tescos yesterday and they had lots of lovely cotton dresses .

greengreyblue · 29/06/2025 09:46

Cotton is great for keeping cool.

Hdpr · 29/06/2025 20:58

I agree that light cotton dresses are great for keeping cool. I love linen but it can be thick!

HevenlyMeS · 29/06/2025 21:23

Thank you immensely for your enlightenments
Tescos are brilliant too

Actually my menopausal go-to in hot weather is neither cotton or linen. Far too faffy. It’s viscose which is still a natural fabric.

I always buy 2 sizes bigger because it shrinks like billio but it’s featherlight and ‘wafty’. I live in cheap summer dresses from H&M and ASOS.

Same. I actually much prefer viscose to cotton. It's so much softer and lighter, and dries quickly. I'm perimenopausal too and having a hard time with clothing and textures. Viscose is definitely on my search radar very time.

Surprised you're finding it difficult, even in Marks & Spencer's loads if you just search cotton dresses

Long flowing wide maxi dresses with long sleeves have been in fashion for at least 3 years. They are everywhere.

mycatismyworld · 30/06/2025 12:32

I wear those lozenge shaped crinkly viscose dresses you see at markets . Often vibrant/ garish colours but the coolest think ever

ScribblingPixie · 30/06/2025 13:49

Not dresses but I've had Zara co ords with elasticated waists that are made of very fine, cool cotton.https://www.zara.com/uk/en/striped-bermuda-shorts-with-darts-zw-collection-p09479069.html?v1=447204751 This kind of thing.

ScribblingPixie · 30/06/2025 13:52

Sorry, link seems have gone weird but it was Striped Bermuda Shorts with Darts and matching Striped Oversized Shirt - both ZW Collection in the sale.

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 30/06/2025 18:50

Interesting, I actively avoid viscose, can't stand how it holds creases and I don't do ironing if I can help it.
Watching this thread for good suggestions and if to check out Tesco's dresses online.

@cleo333

I have this dress from French Connection and I’m in love with it.

I have fairly big boobs and they look great in this dress - plus as they are partially exposed, it helps reduce boob sweat!

There’s also a small cut out underneath the bow which further helps air flow but doesn’t reveal much. I wear it with nipple covers and go braless which is joyous in this heat, but have also worn it with a navy bra and this makes the small cut out appear a little smaller.

Barletta Poplin Tie Midi Dress

Our Barletta Poplin Tie Midi Dress exudes confidence with its mix of modern design and timeless appeal. This lightweight summer dress features a v-neckline with front tie detail, elasticated waist and flattering midi length. Dress Fabric: poplin, light...

You can search on Vinted for 100% cotton. Lots of lovely dresses on there

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/06/2025 21:16

I have recently bought a cotton dress with pockets from Mountain Warehouse. Our local branch had plenty of different colours and styles and they also have skirts too.

hellswelshy · 30/06/2025 21:25

What's the sizing like on this dress? I really like it, but I'm sometimes size 14 then other shops size 16.
