I very nearly bought a Stratberry bag today...

.... i might go and look at it again tomorrow. I've been promising myself a good mid-range, not-quite-designer (but almost) bag for ages.

What are people's experiences of Strathberry? Worth it? The other brand I love the look of is Polene.

I've looked at S. before, & what struck me is how insecure they are.
I had my purse, cards etc stolen from a flap-over bag, so like a securer fastening.
I use a carabiner to secure a zip to the strap, but I'd love to know if there's a device for a flap-over.

SuperGinger · 17/06/2025 20:02

Anyone looked at Horse bags, the Aussie brand, I love the styles.

That handbag bloke who rips them up on Instagram really rated Strathberry.

I'm glad I saw this I was contemplating a bag that was a bit open at the top but thought, I'd be vulnerable. I'm struggling to find something I like, I think Strathberry has a bit too much hardware for me

DramaAlpaca · 17/06/2025 20:08

I love Strathberry, I have a few of them and am very impressed with the quality.

The mosaic has quite a strong magnet. Unless the bag is behind you, I’d be surprised if anyone could get their hand in there without you noticing. If you’re worried then maybe you could get a bag liner with a zip.

MidnightMeltdown · 17/06/2025 20:35

If I was in a crowded place, like on the tube, I would usually carry it by the top handle, which is another reason why I like the style of the mosaic, because it has that option.

bendmeoverbackwards · 17/06/2025 22:23

@Pigtailsandall gorgeous bag, buy! ❤️

I wish Strathberry did more bags with silver hardware, I much prefer it to gold. I’ve been lusting over the smaller size Mosaic in a blue/green shade which has silver.

bendmeoverbackwards · 17/06/2025 22:25

Oohhh it’s in the sale!

Thought I’d throw the suggestion of Fairfax & Favor out there, similar price point, very good quality and quite a timeless. These brands are filling the gap left by Mulberry of old, now Mulberry has gone all modern and made in china

Pigtailsandall · 17/06/2025 22:50

I bought the bag 😁 thank you all! I love it only fractionally less than my child.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Tbh, in London it's more likely to be grab and go now, and I like that the bag comes quite close to your body (and high up) so it's really nestled against you. There is a small zip compartment inside where I'll keep my card holder.

Good choice. I love my Strathberry Mosaic and the leather and hardware is still immaculate. My only slight regret is that I got it in a very pale, nude colour which limits how often I wear it. My next purchase is a Tory Burch for my birthday at the end of the month.

MargaritaPracticallyCan · 18/06/2025 08:13

I'm generally not into spending ££ on bags, but was given some cash for my 50th.from family, so treated myself to this Strathberry. I wanted something small and discrete that didn't scream designer. It's beautifully made, fits my phone and cards, perfect for days/evenings out when I don't need to carry much. Love it. www.strathberry.com/products/stylist-marine-blue

Yikes ! £100 to £400 + for a handbag. By mid range I thought you were meaning Kipling bags under £80 ! Silly me.

Designer handbags cost thousands and you can get a high street handbag for £25 so even without knowing anything about handbags logically a mid range bag has got to be more than £80.

Noshadelamp · 18/06/2025 10:28

Love these, thanks for the suggestion! Have added the Windsor mini to my list. The mint is cute but I'd probably go for a tan or even the stone realistically.

I wanted a strathberry until I realised they were made out of calf skin

They have a sale on some designs at the moment. I've not bought one yet but am tempted. I'd like to visit a store first to try them on.

I have the demellier vancouver bag which is reminiscent of the celine box bag. It's in the smooth calf leather and is prone to scratches although mine hasn't yet.

I do like the look of several polene bags and might buy the neuf or cyme. I also like the look of aspinal of London and would quite like a trunk
bag from there.

Just on the polene, I have the mini cyme and love it. Got the textured black cherry so don't have the issues with scratching that you might have with a smooth version.
I also have the neuf - large size. I love the bag's looks - it's beautiful, but the opening is an absolute pain - it's very narrow and the handle gets in the way so it is hard to get things in and out. I read reviews that on the mini version its an absolute nightmare, so that is why I went for the full size. It's still a pain though. Also got it in a textured leather.
The numero un mini is gorgeous too.

Just worth considering.

I have quite a few horse bags and love them - which were you thinking of ?

TotallyFloored · 18/06/2025 11:35

I have a few Strathberry's including the nano Mosaic and I love them. Gorgeous leather and styling - very elegant.

Those commenting on the Demellier - I have quite a few in my collection. Any bag bought in a smooth leather will generally always be more prone to scratching. However I have quite a few Demellier in other leather and suede options, including the pebbled leather, and have had not any scratching issues.

Demellier also do a good sale every now and then - the latest one has just finished but it's worth watching out for as I got some colours that had been sold out in the sale. And there were some of the more capsule type colours and styles too - not just the out there colours.

Other brands that I have and love that may be worth a look - the Horse, Le Tanneur, Polene, Pourchet, Elleme, Fleuron, Fauvette, RSVP Paris, APC, Parisa Wang, Cuyana, Songmont.

I may have a bag issue - used to be a Chanel devotee but cannot justify the prices so have transferred my interest to the more mid-range bags.

SuperGinger · 18/06/2025 12:44

I quite like the Clementine in pebbled leather but I said I would buy British but I'm not seeing many I'm taken with

I love the Clementine - the leather is nice and thick but still squishy. Fits a fair bit in and has the strap and top handle carry options. If you overfill it, you could lose the dip/slouch in shape but it's large enough that I haven't found that to be a problem.

I have a mini as well, which is cute but it is easy to put too much in it and you then lose the dip in the top and it looks a bit more like a brick type shape. So it's more a bag for days when you really don't need to carry much, or maybe for nights out.

The price is fab for the quality of what you get - I was a bit sceptical with all the internet hype, but I have it in 2 colours in the regular size, 1 in the mini and I tried some other bags on the strength of the Clementine.

I think (other than possibly one PP) people were saying the Demellier is prone to scratching, not the Strathberry. The pebbled leather of the chocolate is probably less prone to scratching than the shinier finish of the croc. I have the black mosaic nano and really like it, although I have babied it. It only comes out for special occasions.

What would put me off Polene and Demellier is they're very popular with influencers and have been copied by the Chinese companies. I fancied the Polene numero neuf but Shein are selling a dupe. While it obviously wouldn't be as good quality, I wouldn't want people thinking I had bought from one of those sites.

Haven’t seen the other comments but DeMellier VERY prone to scratching on both leather and hardware. Strathberry quality is lovely.

Flattered is another nice brand in this sort of price range.

@Pigtailsandall, I also looked at exactly the bag you are thinking of and it is GORGEOUS. And, as it is pebbled leather, will not scratch. It's a great "wear with everything" bag.
I also need a dark brown handbag for winter, and am choosing between that and the Le Marcia bag by Leo and Violette. I think I prefer the shape of the Strathberry but am not sure about the white visible stitching for winter....

Never heard of this brand but that is gorgeous!
