Do you like this black maxi lace skirt ??

The last time I wore any skirt or any dress was in primary school or my wedding actually thinking that!
However I just got this lace long maxi skirt and while I love the look of it everyone in my family like DH or teen child telling me it's truly horrible I look like goth or old witch in it??
I'm so disappointed as I thought it would be great for hot summer days especially its essentially a mini skirt with a lace layer.
I'm 52yrs old, maybe it's too young style for tall hip models( I'm quite short)

Do you like this black maxi lace skirt ??

I'd wear it to a gig or music festival with my cowboy boots and a vest top. (I'm 45 , size 10 and 5ft 5 if that matters! )

ForJollyLemonZebra · 17/06/2025 20:19

Many years since wearing anything but trousers.. you have nice figure 52 still young...go for a change... think you will find something... there's lots you can wear...I have to say I don't think thats the one... but don't give up wanting a change for the summer....so much out there these days...hope you don't give up..

Bluedenimdoglover · 17/06/2025 20:46

Not a look I'd go for. Black lace would be midi length, dark tights and boots. Not a summer look for me.

MidnightMeltdown · 17/06/2025 21:21

I wouldn’t say that black lace is perfect for a hot summers day. That looks like a winter evening skirt to me. It looks bizarre how they’ve styled it with a white t-shirt.

Wonderwoman333 · 17/06/2025 21:25

I love this, surprised at the very negative feedback!

CiaoMeow · 17/06/2025 21:58

Awful!

It should either be fully lined or have the courage of your convictions and no lining.

Lace skirt and big knickers

That's much nicer, and styled better.

Lavachicken37 · 17/06/2025 22:05

It doesn’t look like it would be flattering at all

locketrocket · 17/06/2025 23:56

I’d take the lining out and wear skin colour cycling shorts underneath.
And with chunky sandals/trainers and more fitted top, I would definitely wear in the summer.

I’d place a small bet that if lots of shops are selling skirts like this, people will get used to seeing them and if you start a thread on a few months time asking the same question you’d get a different balance of responses.
only a small bet though, so I’d try to find something else. Idk why it’s often hard to find nice, wearable skirts.

WTHJH · 18/06/2025 14:34

I’ve seen plenty of skirts that follow the translucent with a tiny underskirt theme - the fact that they’re fashionable doesn’t make the one OP showed any more attractive!

I think there are plenty of fabrics that you can get away with buying at the cheaper end - to me, lace is not one of them. Always looks like net curtains.

I don't love the styling of either of the skirts the OP posted, but the lace looks horrible in both too.

Absentmindedsmile · 18/06/2025 14:55

The black one is awful. The cream one could work. Nicely, with a small white vest. On holiday somewhere nice..

WTHJH · 18/06/2025 15:50

Not because one has to spend this much, but purely because it happened to pass my eye earlier:

I like it. I’ve got a white one from m and s very similar that I wear a lot. It’s how you style it. I wear mine with a a tailored linen waistcoat (either a longer one or a more cropped version) and usually smartish sandals, and I get alot of compliments on it. It’s not styled well in the picture (unless you are about 15 and an emo)

Hordingshopaholic · 21/06/2025 18:09

Update.
Worn my skirt yesterday for the first time into town, was stopped 3x by lovely ladies asking where it’s from and complimented.
It’s just beautiful, now I’m trying to get the cream one too but sold out.
Looks very luxe and bohoo. Love it!
Thanks to everyone who laughed here about it, it made me wanting to wear it even more.

MikeRafone · 21/06/2025 18:10

Not for me

Thank you. It’s beautiful and doesn’t look goth or winter.
Very happy I didn’t listen silly responses here and kept it..

Bbq1 · 21/06/2025 18:14

The first one wasn't great but tge TO one is awful. Shapeless, cheap looking and hideous with those big, red trainers. Sorry, Op.

Persephoknee · 21/06/2025 18:23

It’s truly hideous and looks like a hyacinth bouquet tablecloth used for dress up. This is one of those look back and cringe items.
