The last time I wore any skirt or any dress was in primary school or my wedding actually thinking that!
However I just got this lace long maxi skirt and while I love the look of it everyone in my family like DH or teen child telling me it's truly horrible I look like goth or old witch in it??
I'm so disappointed as I thought it would be great for hot summer days especially its essentially a mini skirt with a lace layer.
I'm 52yrs old, maybe it's too young style for tall hip models( I'm quite short)

Do you like this black maxi lace skirt ??

No

TheHappyBug · 15/06/2025 16:13

I don’t like it but if you do then wear it!

NormaNormal · 15/06/2025 16:15

I don't like the Marks and Sparks one either but it's not as bad.

The Tu one looks like you are wearing two skirts.

2 of the Tu skirts with the lining removed from both might look better. The layers could be adjusted so that material on top one is over gap on lower.

Black maxi skirts? Totally fine. That weird half/half thing? Not for me. The only way I could see it working is as a fancy skirt with a smart top and heals or something (so it looks like a mini dress with a lace skirt over the top). I wouldn’t wear it like that though but I’m sure it would look good on someone tall and willowy.

DelphiniumBlue · 15/06/2025 16:50

I had a black lace skirt quite similar to the New Look one, back in the early 80s. It didn't have a lining, so I wore it with leggings underneath, or footless tights, black or if I was feeling extrovert, bright coloured ones. Then a t shirt same colours as legwear. I loved it, it was favourite going out outfit for years!
If I was young now, I'd wear it with very short shorts.

Quirkswork · 15/06/2025 16:54

OP!!!! What!!!??!!! It's absolutely awful!! It looks like the model is wearing a vast pair of underpants and is trying to cover herself up with a net curtain.

Although in true MN tradition, obviously if you like it you should wear it...

Good lord, the top they’ve put with that skirt looks like an actual dishcloth!

I had a full length proper old lady black lace nightie that I got from the charity shop. I put a short fitted black top over it and black shorts underneath (or a full length black skirt if I felt Fancy) and I wafted round looking like some goth Isadora Duncan and I LOVED IT.

DeSoleil · 15/06/2025 17:09

I think it would be perfect if you are a Stevie Nicks but otherwise it’s a massive no.

BunnyLake · 15/06/2025 17:17

It doesn’t seem very summery to me. I think maybe it looks too cheap. I’m all for a bit of Stevie Nicks lace but I’m not sure this is it.

WTHJH · 15/06/2025 17:22

@Sumerhere here’s the

Cos version

made with modesty shorts beneath. It just looks … calmer. Rather than as if purchased whilst high on drugs.

Love this COS one

Iloveeverycat · 15/06/2025 18:08

I don't mind looking like a goth or an old witch at 60. I love the skirt they do a cream one too but I would have to have a longer black slip I wouldn't wear it with so much leg showing.

Iloveeverycat · 15/06/2025 18:09

TheHorrorsPersist · 15/06/2025 13:56

Send it to me! I love it and would take being told I look like a witch as a compliment 😂

Me too

That's the look I go for.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 15/06/2025 19:00

I think if you like it OP then try and style it a bit, the way they have styled it in the listing is bloody awful. I have a similar skirt but the lining bit goes down to midi length and its got pleating in to make it a bit more fuller, it's from M&S although via vinted so may not be current. I love this look but I am a bit of a goth. I got mine for work and wear it with a more fitted scoop neck top rather than the baggy monstrosity in their listing.

OriginalUsername2 · 15/06/2025 19:10

I saw a young woman on the school run wearing something very similar with a black cropped vest and black sandals. She looked fab.

It looks awful with a baggy tshirt in that picture though. Bad styling.

RaraRachael · 15/06/2025 19:11

Like a black net curtain that doesn't hang properly.

Hideous.

Hordingshopaholic · 15/06/2025 19:40

I actually do like it.
These are now everywhere and I spotted this in my local Sainsburys last week so I got one too but not worn it yet as taking it on hols next week.
My friend had her wedding dress like this and it was fab.
No point asking here as Mn will always put you down.
A few years ago I asked for an advice here on later sold out popular dress, I was told its hideous etc but as soon as a celebrity worn it, everyone wanted it..

Hordingshopaholic · 15/06/2025 19:44

Just checked the M&S one, that’s one is really bad, looks like tiered curtain. And surprise: sold out!

LetIt · 15/06/2025 21:49

It’s really horrible. And I love a bit of goth. The lace looks cheap and I don’t like the effect of part a skirt underneath. I can’t imagine it’s very flattering on anyone and doesn’t look a great fabric for hot weather so I’m not sure it’s that great for the purpose you want it for.

Y2ker · 15/06/2025 22:07

Notaripoff · 15/06/2025 15:37

I think it is the mini skirt lining that's the main problem. If it was fully lined it would look better I think.

I agree. I think it would make your hips look massive. I also think black lace doesn't look right as day wear, goth or not. May be better styled as evening wear.

ruethewhirl · 16/06/2025 12:04

I’d love it if it was lined to the bottom, but not like this.
