Victoria Madrid trainers?

Bought these last week because I wanted something more interesting than plain white and it was a bit of an impulse thing. I have always avoided animal print, I know it can be bit marmite. Loved them when they arrived and then son aged 19 saw them and ripped me mercilessly, so now I am doubting myself. I am early 50s, short but slim, not one for high fashion, just an ordinary middle aged woman who WFH.

Keep or return?
And if I return, what else instead?

I don’t think it really matters how old a brand is when saying one looks like a copy of another. They’re all just following market trends 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just pointing out that it's Veja who have copied the Victoria style at times

Bundleflower · 13/06/2025 11:58

They’re nice and fun. I like them.
I think it’s a bit mean spirited of your son to be ripping you to the point you’re seriously debating returning them. I can’t imagine you love every single item in his wardrobe!

ChristmasRoses · 13/06/2025 13:48

I love them and I'd wear them. I'm 58

salsamad · 13/06/2025 14:04

My Victoria Berlin trainers are fabulous. Soft buttery leather and they maintain their shape even after a year of wearing them.
They are a little narrow on fitting but are definitely worth the money.
I went for soft white/cream neutral colourway though to wear in Summer.

They are not quite my style as trainers but nothing wrong with them, go for it.

I have leopard print Mary Janes.

baggybags · 13/06/2025 14:25

I love animal prints but those trainers are awful imo

spoonbillstretford · 13/06/2025 14:28

These are my smart trainers (Levi's). 19 and 16 year old DDs approved and DH said he liked them quite spontaneously- I can't remember when he last complimented me on my footwear.

I have rather flat feet and Converse, Vans etc can be a little too flat to wear for long periods but these have a bit more support and I can wear them all day.

They would look awful on me, but I have massive feet!

I have the adidas leopard spezials and I love them. They're much more subtle, with just the stripes being leopard print. They're so comfy and the bonus is they make my feet look teeny tiny 🎉

Coco1oco · 13/06/2025 15:50

Personally I'd return them. I bought the plain white ones half price and after about 4 months the sole had sort of snapped with a line across each. Not sure if a defective pair or what. I am not hard on my shoes either

Crazycatlady75 · 13/06/2025 17:22

I love them. I also love the Levi's ones a previous PP posted. Agh, I don't need more trainers!!

Ignore your son. They are your shoes!

FeltCarrot · 13/06/2025 19:41

I have a pair of the Berlin style and a pair of Veja’s.

Hardly wear the Veja’s, they’re really uncomfortable. I’ve walked miles in the Victoria ones,

pineapplecrazylady · 13/06/2025 21:39

I think they are fab - don't listen to your son if you like them. I have a couple of pairs of Victorias and find them super comfortable and durable

JustAboutHangingInThere · 13/06/2025 22:33

Gorgeous, love them!

Summerisere · 13/06/2025 22:43

I’ve noticed people wearing these and think they look nice.

SheridansPortSalut · 14/06/2025 00:50

I'm going to say return because I don't like the leopard and white combination. I think that all leopard or leopard and black/brown would be better.

TimeForATerf · 14/06/2025 05:47

59 and I love them, and I’m quite trendy for my age if I say so myself. I would wear them with plainer clothing, jeans and a neutral sweater or all white top and bottom.

ignore your son, my adult DC no longer take the piss out of what I wear and compliment me now, and DD borrows.

echt · 14/06/2025 09:29

Update: DD very much liked the leopard Adidas on their first outing today, and while I buy to please myself it's always nice to have a stylish person endorse a choice.

While we're doing ages, I'm 70.

Conqueeftador · 14/06/2025 09:37

Oh, I love those. I’ve got a weird toe (following a bad break healing), so can’t really wear pointy “nice” shoes, so have dozens of trainers in various styles/colours/sparkly etc, and wear them for any occasion. I’m early 50s if that’s of any relevance, but have been doing so for at least the last 10 years. Only ever had positive comments about them (though I’m sure my very posh, older neighbour is silently judging me every time we go out somewhere nice for dinner🤣).

LadyLapsang · 14/06/2025 11:18

If you like them then keep them. They look too busy for me. Leopard skin print always makes me think of Bet Lynch and the glitter is too much. You mention you have small feet, if you are a size 3 I have just seen an alternative on sale you might like.

Flomingho · 14/06/2025 21:14

I am 46 and I love them. I really like animal print. I have just bought a pair of Adidas SL72's in leopard print and have had lots of compliments.

TrainGame · 14/06/2025 21:29

They're lovely. Ignore the 19 year old. He's not yet old enough to know what good taste is. Swat him off like the young cad that he is!

You enjoy them! Permission granted to be a little daring and fun - why not? Do it now, while you can!

Not sure we can do it at 70, but definitely 50s.

50s are the new 30s. So yes. Absolutely YES.

FagsMagsandBags · 14/06/2025 22:32

You loved them enough to buy them and frankly it's none of your DS's business and he's being rude. They look great and comfortable so wear them and anyone who says you're too old/whatever. Sod 'em. I'm 60 and would wear.

CatsAreBetterThanPpl · 14/06/2025 23:57

I love them they're gorgeous please keep them I'm early 40s and I'm jealous 😍
