Help! Love this dress, but it's not fitting right on top!

Hi everyone,

I recently found this gorgeous midi dress (see pic), and I love the style, colour, and everything! However, I'm having a bit of a dilemma. It doesn't seem to fit perfectly from the top
Is there anything I can do to make it fit better, like maybe a specific type of bra or some tailoring tricks? Or should I just give up on this dress ?

Thanks

Hoik the straps up and get some tit-tap on those beauties!

Sorry OP, I think it’s a shocker. It does nothing for your boobs and makes your tum look v rounded. You’ve got a lovely figure but this isn’t enhancing anything at all.

Agree and also look how creased it is and you are only trying it on.

EcruCardigan · 05/06/2025 14:46

Hoik the straps up and get some tit-tap Do not bother, it will look a mess.

If you really love it @flawless234 , wear it on holiday over a bikini or over a coloured bra, or a white t-shirt.

From what we can see of you in the photo, you look nice but the dress does you no favours.

slinkiemalinkiey · 05/06/2025 14:49

You could get the straps shortened and the bodice stitched up a bit and a strapless bra but is it worth it ? It is very wrinkly too. Try a dress with a better bodice eg these

I'm going to go against the grain and say that the dress really looks lovely on you, OP. I think that the colours really flatter your skin tone. Honestly, on a really hot day I'd just wear it as it is. I probably wouldn't wear it to a formal occasion, but then it isn't really that sort of dress anyway.

Azureshores · 05/06/2025 16:35

You need a strapless bra or those suction cup things - it is not flattering on your top half otherwise. I have much smaller boobs than you and rarely wear dresses like this for the same reason, it's hard to get a bra that is covered by the dress and unless you have very pert boobs it just doesn't look flattering unfortunately. Obviously you could say "sod it" and wear it anyway.

PiggyPigalle · 05/06/2025 17:39

If you really can't be parted from that dress, buy a size bigger. Ask someone handy with a sewing machine to adapt it. Probably to take it in at the sides to shape your bust forward. There is no space in that size to do that.
You have great boobs, but the dress is flattening them.

IAmNeverThePerson · 05/06/2025 18:23

Skims have a good strapless plunge bra

Hoppinggreen · 05/06/2025 18:24

I think you need a bra (sorry) so if you can't find a way to wear one you might have to give up on the dress

EveryOtherNameTaken · 05/06/2025 18:42

Shorten the straps.

PiggyPigalle · 05/06/2025 18:47

Do strapless bras still have that rubber thing on the band to stop it from sliding down, due to gravity? Maybe technology has improved the method.

A sun dress is supposed to be comfortable, having to wear a strapless bra is going to take from that comfort.
Looks like OP has given up on us, so it's a moot point.

No wonder, she got a lot of negative comments that bordered on bitchy.

EcruCardigan · 05/06/2025 19:56

I don't think the comments were bitchy.

Pinches · 05/06/2025 19:58

Def shorten the straps so it sits higher up, and maybe those individual bra cup thingies that stick on....

ExercicenformedeZ · 05/06/2025 20:00

EcruCardigan · 05/06/2025 19:56

I don't think the comments were bitchy.

They were certainly very critical, and the one saying 'You love the dress but it doesn't even like you' was mean IMO.

Twelftytwo · 05/06/2025 20:07

I think it's just cut too small on top, not enough coverage there for someone busty.

I also think it's a bit maternity

bridgetreilly · 05/06/2025 20:16

I would look for a pretty bra that is designed to be seen!

Great idea
Thats what DD does with low cut tops and dresses

There are a few, not many across Mumsnet who could get the same point across without the smart comment, the snarky comment, policing without contributing.
I even saw a poster today who snarkily back chatted the moderator who had messaged advice to help the OP. Try that on Reddit! I read her history, she needs to be on a warning,
S&B was always a safe place to post.

Sorry but I agree that it’s not nice enough to bother making the alterations you’d need to make it fit properly on top. It ends at a funny length too. Throw this one back.

Yeah I agree with this too. Maybe alright to throw on over a swimsuit at the pool if you like the design, but I don’t think the colours or shape are great and it’s very revealing.

RoosterPotato · 05/06/2025 11:10

Wonder bra do a great plunging strapless bra that you’d be able to wear under this and would make it look much better

The wonderbra strapless bra with the plastic “fingers” in it is brilliant and stays put but very uncomfortable IMO. It would probably be low cut enough to wear with this though if you want to persevere.

GladAllOver · 05/06/2025 21:07

You have a lovely figure. Just shorten the straps.

EcruCardigan · 06/06/2025 10:39

@ExercicenformedeZ It wasn't intended to be.
