Where do you buy your clothes?
I am 44 and I don't know where I am supposed to shop these days. I don't have a huge budget but I think I have outgrown 'disposable fashion'.
I like Boden, Kew, White Stuff, Principles but can't always afford them, apart from sales.
I live in a small town with limited shopping opportunities so need to do mail order mostly.
I think I'm in a style rut, as evidenced by yesterday's panic buy summer clothes thread and I need a bit of shaking up.
There must be more people like me on Mumsnet, how do you all keep from dwindling into dowdy fleece-ridden middle age?

Fair point about White Stuff dresses but I get around that by judicious use of opaque tights and boots (said dress is a winter one). My own lower limbs ressemble the legs on a Victorian snooker table and are best kept covered.

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 22/05/2008 20:59

MargoandJerry - do you ever go near King's Lynn? Jaeger sale shop there where I've never found anything but my friend has bought lots.

RosaLuxembourg · 22/05/2008 21:13

Do you know I think abandoning my kneehigh boots and opaque tights is at the crux of my summer wardrobe worries.
I can't BEAR my legs. And as for BARING them .

East

but I am a short arse and have to turn things up, or wear my dresses really long

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 22/05/2008 21:47

Rosa - I feel your pain. Have just abandoned the opaques for 10 denier and am shredding a pair a day. Perhaps linen trousers are the answer?

ThingOne · 22/05/2008 22:15

Ah Rosa. My milky-blue legs love their knee length boots. Fake tan has been purchased. Exfoliation has begun. I'm hoping everybody else will be wearing shades.

SilentTerror · 22/05/2008 22:18

Thingone,I agree re Sandwich.Have 2 really lovely unusual cardigans from there bought in local boutique in sale.
Also love Avoca and Nougat for their quirkinessvvalue.Again, sale bargains or ebay.

ThingOne "my older sister finds good stuff in H+M"
That'd not be me then
good to see you released
personally i find rideaway solves all my clothes buying needs - they do online as well folks

ThingOne · 22/05/2008 22:42

Funnily enough, my dear, it was t'other one I had in mind when talking about clothes. That'll be a surprise to you, I'm sure . You would be violently sick at the cost of the clothes we are mentioning. I'm sure the dress I bought the other day must be worth a couple of bags of pony nuts.

ThingOne · 22/05/2008 22:46

I clicked on "clothing" on rideaway and found this pair of boots www.rideaway.co.uk/index2.php3?sessionid=344f8b408b54be77fae0bd4cf2ea98c0&page=showprod&uact=shop&ca tcode1=HBOO&catcode2=AM. I just don't think they really fit the WOACA style.

Loshad · 22/05/2008 22:47

They've gone up in price as well though (pony nuts)
still reckon you can't go far wrong at the saddlers for clothes

ahundredtimes · 22/05/2008 22:52

Oh my. I bought something today. From White Stuff, I was in a hurry but will go back. I think it might be good you know. Also v. nice necklaces in there - I bought two.

Loshad · 22/05/2008 22:55

oh no amigo are the budget brand - you need something like www.rideaway.co.uk/index2.php3?sesionid=344f8b408b54be77fae0bd4cf2ea98c0&page=showproduct&uact=shop& catcode1=HB00&catcode2=GSD

It's a frigging nightmare isn't it? Used to rely heavily on Next but not so easy recently. Oddly enough bought a skirt in White Stuff a few months back. Apart from that... the odd thing from Gap, M&S, Great Plains.

Cara is really good (they do clothes as well as shoes) - there are only a few branches in the country but worth seeking out if there's one near you.

RosaLuxembourg · 22/05/2008 23:19

PixelHerder, you can take it for granted that no branches of anything are ever near me. I live in the land that retail forgot.
Well we have M&S. And Monsoon. And, er, that's it.

margoandjerry · 23/05/2008 09:41

I rather like these from cara

PixelHerder · 23/05/2008 10:53

Bummer Rosa - annoyingly Cara don't do their clothes online, only shoes and accessories.

But their shoes are great - I'm not usually a shoe-dribbler but can usually find at least two or three pairs to lust over in there.
