Blackhead that won't go!

LoafofSellotape · 22/05/2025 15:52

I've got good ,clear skin, I have rosacea but have it so well under control it doesn't bother me these days..

BUT

I have a blackhead pore thing on the side of my jaw that will NOT go away. I double cleanse every day and exfoliate 3x a week but every day it comes back. It's not behaving like a blackhead but looks like one. If I hoik it out within a couple of hours it's back again!! Wtf?

What is it and what magic potion do I need to get rid of it?

Thank you!

OP get one of those pore strips for your nose and put it on it. Honestly I had something similar and the pore strips just pulled it out. Had a huge pore for a couple weeks but then it shrunk back to normal.

Edit: this is only if you’re sure it’s a blackhead and not a mole or other lesion

Edited

I have tried that , it didn't work, just bled.

Obviously go to gp and try to book an appointment.

In the meantime I would have one last go to treat it as a wound. Pharmacy trip for alcohol wipes. Get it clear. Then alcohol wipe. Then fill the void with a giant blob of Savlon. Don’t rub it in. Just a giant blob. Keep applying the giant blob. Sleep with the giant blob. If after a few days of perpetual Savlon blob and no improvement and still turning black then I would ring back the gp and get very feisty with them.

Source - had a scab spot on my arm forever. Just wouldn’t ever properly heal. Kept looking at it thinking I might be dieing of cancer but what’s another day. Then would forget. Then would realise a few weeks/ months later and think is that the same scab?!?! One day just thought giving myself a week to really focus on sorting this or definitely going to gp. Within 3 days it was healed.

I have savlon, I will apply starting tonight.

I'm seeing the dermatologist in June so will definitely get them to take a look at it as well as the other issue .

Ahh in which case it’s probably not a blackhead and you need to get it looked at

Hi… that looks exactly like a preauricular pit. You have probably had it all your life and never noticed before. Sometimes they’re super deep and fill with sloughed keratin and become infected, but yours doesn’t look like that to me. My DH & DD2 have one on each side and another on their neck (which by definition is a branchial cleft cyst).
Also of note : When babies are developing in the womb, necks, ears and kidneys form at the same time. These days if babies have preauricular pits or wonky-looking ears, they scan their kidneys. DD’s kidney is wonky and in the wrong place, but it works and she has had no worrying symptoms. DH had a scan just to look at the gene pool and his is the same. Also symptom free. If you have had kidney issues, could be BOR Syndrome. (Branchi-Oto-Renal Syndrome.)

Please go and see a doctor

Itdoesntendwellatall · 22/05/2025 23:32

I'm another who thinks it looks like a preauricular pit.

I'd also love a rec for a good rosacea treatment. Neither Rozex gel nor azeleic acid have worked. I have phymatous rosacea.

That’s fascinating. Can you have these inside your ears? One of my DDs has a tiny pit in one of her ears, on the conche.

Googled lots of images of preauculiar pit and I don't think it's that, it's not near enough to my ear .

My DD has one on the conch and one in front of her ear like yours. But good that you are seeing a derm anyway. If it’s a blackhead you might benefit from electrolysis treatment which “scars” the hole and stops it reforming. (Assuming it’s a biggish one)

Both my DDs have preauricular pits in their left ears.

I noticed them both as soon as they were born (2014 and 2020). No one has ever cared. I was just looked at like I was insane for mentioning it.

Midwives, hospital drs, GP. I gave up in the end. No one said a word. Just stayed silent, shrugged or went, “oh”.

So I was actually prescribed that by the GP and it reduced the redness slightly but still very red :( I think I used for about 6 months as well. I didn’t go back to GP as I fell pregnant and wasn’t sure if anything would be safe/recomended in pregnancy!

Oh I'm sorry it didn't work. The soolantra got rid of the pimples bit of my rosacea which I hated. Mine is a small patch but is still pink.. I just cover that up. I'll azaeic acid for the redness as someone has recommended that on this thread.

JerkintheMerkin · 23/05/2025 07:30

Careful with this. I had one under my arm which turned into a sebaceous cyst that needed to be lanced and drained. Go see your GP for advice.

Tbrh · 23/05/2025 07:37

I really think you need to see a medical specialist

blubbyblub · 23/05/2025 08:57

If it comes back within hours that sounds like a scan or dried blood. What else would reform that fast.
it looks like it’s not just the spot but also around it a bit like swollen.

LoafofSellotape · 23/05/2025 14:24

I examined it in the sun with a magnifying mirror, not a blackhead , it's a scab reforming. Thanks everyone, I don't think I'd have realised it without this thread 😊

Am glad you're seeing a derm, have had melanoma on face it was dismissed as nothing but I just felt a bit off so they biopsied 'just in case' then came back positive. Some look dodgy from the off, some don't but it's a sneaky bugger.

I had one last year and needed chemo cream and that was initially dismissed too until I pushed for it. I've had another one come up too hence the derm appt ,I've had to wait for this appt as they didn't deem it urgent enough for the 2 week wait ( pissed off given my history and family history of skin cancer) 🙄

Yeah, my mum had skin cancer and I've had melanoma and bcc on face and several other changing ones removed from body. It's like bloody whackamole, have over 150 moles so chances are not great.

Best of luck for your appointment
