Blackhead that won't go!

LoafofSellotape · 22/05/2025 15:52

I've got good ,clear skin, I have rosacea but have it so well under control it doesn't bother me these days..

BUT

I have a blackhead pore thing on the side of my jaw that will NOT go away. I double cleanse every day and exfoliate 3x a week but every day it comes back. It's not behaving like a blackhead but looks like one. If I hoik it out within a couple of hours it's back again!! Wtf?

What is it and what magic potion do I need to get rid of it?

Thank you!

Ok , I think it is a scab that's bleeding when I take the top off. Will definitely show the dermatologist.

I watch a LOT of Dr Pimple Popper and my best guess would be pore of weiner but I’d agree you need Derm to look at that.

Louiselouise9 · 22/05/2025 20:29

Just wanted to offer my recommendations for Rosacea as I’ve suffered for 15 years, finally got it under control. The best thing I found is soolantra for whenever I start with the pimples, three months use clears them for up to a year, then for redness and flares Azelaic acid every other night.

Yerdug · 22/05/2025 20:42

Move in with me, babes, and I'll happily have a good go on it every fucking day

I’m a community pharmacist and if you presented to me with that I would send you to a GP. Granted perhaps it looks larger in the photo than it is in real life but the shape and colour are concerning and the fact it goes away but keep coming back is another red flag.

I was going to say the same.

HeartyViper · 22/05/2025 20:50

Another vote that’s not a blackhead, and needs looking at.

ChocHotolate · 22/05/2025 20:57

Could it be a preauricular pit? A harmless genetic or congenital feature

DecoratingDiva · 22/05/2025 21:04

I had a similar thing, took it to the doctors and they scooped it out under a local anaesthetic and checked it wasn’t cancerous (it wasn’t). Can’t remember what they called it.

took about 10 min to do and hurt like hell for a couple of hours once the anaesthetic wore off but no issues with it coming back and it was many years ago it was removed.

good luck.

I was going to suggest this, for some reason sometimes if I have a scab on my face, particularly my chin it will look black. Particularly if it’s a spot on top of a pesky chin hair, is there a chance there might be a hair/ingrown hair underneath? I find the best way to deal with them is to moisturise heavily even though moisturising a scab seems/feels weird. If you moisturise and leave it alone to heal but it’s not healing or it’s coming back then I’d get it looked at

I think I've had it for at least a couple of months, I think posters are right and it needs looking at. I always moisturiser well because of the rosacea.

Hm that is a while. Unless you’re picking it off every single day so it is just not getting a chance to heal, which it doesn’t sound like you’re doing, it is probably worth an appointment

I was going to say the same thing. Nothing I’ve tried works :(

waiting in anticipation…

Soolantra! Miracle cream. I learned about it on Mumsnet. Just ask for a prescription for it. Got mine under control.

That was the best photo I could do, sorry !

Have it checked for melanoma

Off topic but any tips on how you have the rosacea under control please let me know #struggleisreal

For rosacea, try the Dermatica online dermatology. Their rosacea formulation cleared mine up like magic.

Poppyyoutwat · 22/05/2025 21:44

With regard to rosacea - I got rid of mine with castor oil. I rub it on every night before bed. It was gone in around 8 weeks.

So I was actually prescribed that by the GP and it reduced the redness slightly but still very red :( I think I used for about 6 months as well. I didn’t go back to GP as I fell pregnant and wasn’t sure if anything would be safe/recomended in pregnancy!

WhatMe123 · 22/05/2025 21:51

I'd get that looked at as they say get things that don't heal on the skin checked out. Just to be safe op 😁

MelanieHardy · 22/05/2025 21:58

Yep, go to see the Dr. Probably nothing at all to worry about, but you will find out exactly what it is. Ring first thing tomorrow.

TeaAndToast8 · 22/05/2025 22:04

ThisZanyPinkSquid · 22/05/2025 20:03

Looks like a pore of wiener

I’ve never heard of this but just googled it and it does look like this.

Anon2536474 · 22/05/2025 22:04

Obviously go to gp and try to book an appointment.

In the meantime I would have one last go to treat it as a wound. Pharmacy trip for alcohol wipes. Get it clear. Then alcohol wipe. Then fill the void with a giant blob of Savlon. Don’t rub it in. Just a giant blob. Keep applying the giant blob. Sleep with the giant blob. If after a few days of perpetual Savlon blob and no improvement and still turning black then I would ring back the gp and get very feisty with them.

Source - had a scab spot on my arm forever. Just wouldn’t ever properly heal. Kept looking at it thinking I might be dieing of cancer but what’s another day. Then would forget. Then would realise a few weeks/ months later and think is that the same scab?!?! One day just thought giving myself a week to really focus on sorting this or definitely going to gp. Within 3 days it was healed.

Mollysocks · 22/05/2025 22:07

OP get one of those pore strips for your nose and put it on it. Honestly I had something similar and the pore strips just pulled it out. Had a huge pore for a couple weeks but then it shrunk back to normal.

Edit: this is only if you’re sure it’s a blackhead and not a mole or other lesion

steff13 · 22/05/2025 22:13

Azandme · 22/05/2025 20:04

It looks like a scab. If the top comes off then it comes back within hours, are you sure it's not?

This is what I was thinking.

LoafofSellotape · 22/05/2025 20:23

Hmmm I'm seeing a dermatologist in June for (another) skin cancer so will ask them to take a look.

Probably stop squeezing it for now and just cover it up if it’s bothering you?
