Im really struggling to find anything that suits me post DC. I’m very petite, 5ft and a size 6 but I hate my post baby stomach pooch. I also have 0 boobs. I’m 35 so not young.

I always get the outfit wrong and would like to feel nice and confident just for once.

Is it too white? Too much?

Alternatively if anyone’s seen something similar that would work I would much appreciate it.
The brief would be:
-Midi ideally or a long mini if acceptable. I know this is maxi but sheer on the bottom so maybe won’t make me look like I’ve stolen someone else’s clothes.
-Normally neck or strappy…can’t do anything that means I can’t wear a bra. Hate one shoulders.uu
-Any acceptable wedding colour except green or yellow as I’m ginger.
-Ideally not too floaty as I drown in it. Maybe less fitted on the stomach but fitted around the bum (my only asset!)

I really want to look classy and expensive rather than cheap.

Any help much appreciated.

I'm a couple of years older than you but similar size/build (tiny bit taller and more a 6/8) and went to my first wedding for a decade last month! Everything I had in my wardrobe was Coast / Karen Millen thick satin pencil dresses and definitely not 2025 style. I got this on Shein but I've seen similar I'm H&M and Zara I think. It was ideal and fit in well with what others were wearing (whole day fancy hotel ceremony & meal & disco). I would've bought from the high street / online but when I was looking in February what was in the shops was dire and couldn't get free returns anywhere I looked online, hence ordering a bunch of styles from Shein to try on and was pleasantly surprised.

Let us know how you get on OP! I personally find as a petite/short person that anything with a puff sleeve looks ridiculous on me which is a shame as I love a lot of those styles out atm.
I've been eyeing this up for a wedding later in the year - is strapless ok at a wedding or not?! With someone over the top in the day.
Quite a bold print so possibly not for you but it caught my eye:

Thankyou everyone!

I love the club London pale blue ones. I looked at these before the post. My only concern is being swamped by a dress that flows out (or looking like a bridesmaid!) I usually wear fitted things to avoid looking bigger than I am but maybe worth ordering. I also love the Reiss one but again it’s floaty so I would have previously discounted. I think I need a style overhaul to be fair as I haven’t been out for so long and my body isn’t the same.

I love the Zara orange one but I’m ginger. Can someone with orange hair wear an orange dress 😄 it comes in yellow but I’m so pale I’m worried I’ll be washed out.

I also love the pink Zara two piece one. I always shy away from prints but maybe I should be braver!

I did nearly order this last night but your suggestions are more wedding. Thanks all!

That one in the blue and white print would be fab. The print also helps disguise any lumps and bumps.

Try Self Portrait. Lovely dresses.

You might think these sites are too old for you, but why not look at

Whistles (occasion /weddings)
Hobbs
Nobody's Child (occasion/ weddings)
J Lewis (occasion wear is listed under women's dresses)
French Connection
Boden (petite is listed)

I recently wore this to a wedding, it's fitted but has ruching and no issues with bra wearing! It's very flattering on, I'm 5ft 3 and it was midi length on me.

Ooh the cream one is lovely. I would go for that.

Yes that is a gorgeous dress

Pancakeflipper · 24/05/2025 17:20

I don't think it is too white. With a bag, shoes, hat/fascinator not in white, you won't be at all.bridal.

Headycloud · 24/05/2025 18:45

Only on MN is everyone overly obsessed with dresses looking too white for a wedding

ParmaVioletTea · 25/05/2025 13:02

I really want to look classy and expensive rather than cheap.

I know you're now looking at other dresses, but if you want to look "expensive" then a polyester untailored dress won't do it, I'm afraid. It looks more like a cheap dress for a nightclub with added frill over the mini skirt. I'm afraid for me, any bodycon dress is unsuitable for a wedding, really. Great for clubbing though!

"Looking expensive" comes from tailoring to fit your body, plus proper fabrics: silk, linen, wool. Obviously a summer wedding doesn't need wool! So look for sulk, linen, or cotton. And properly fitted, with enough fabric, and lined. Lining is one of the secrets of dresses looking 'expensive' as it allows the dress fabric to ease & sit over your body properly.

Do you like your waist? Something that is fitted to the waist and then gathered or full skirted would "hide" a rounded tummy.

You say your hate your shoulders - that's odd as for most people (even the overweight) their shoulders look toned and are often a good feature.

BlaBlaBla87436780087 · 25/05/2025 19:19

Style is lovely - my initial reaction was too white though

SwedishEdith · 25/05/2025 19:42

Of the most recent dresses, get the Reiss one. The rest are polyester. They just won't look like quality. Surprised by how nice some of the New Look ones are as well and they're mostly viscose.

Jk987 · 18/05/2025 23:05

It’s got blue all over it, how can people say it’s too white?

Totally agree. There is nothing weddingy about it. Looks lovely 🥰

Headycloud · 26/05/2025 16:58

I’m 35 so not young

i find this a really depressing comment

TimeForATerf · 27/05/2025 05:59

What did you go for in the end? incidentally, I thought your number 1 choice was perfect, it’s not too white at all. I’ve just been to my son’s wedding, have my daughters in a few months and seen the pictures for all their friend’s recent weddings. It’s perfect.

My daughter said it’s lovely and she would be happy to have a guest wear it. She drew the line at her future MIL wearing champagne though.

@BlimminHardToFindAName I came on here looking for dress inspiration for a wedding in going to and this Zara one in orange is gorgeous - sold out unfortunately. 😥
