Hi guys

Really wondering if you can help me. Off on holiday next month n looking a dress that is cool eg cotton fabric that I could wear in evening

I really love the dress below from new look, but it's not particularly flattering around my stomach! Really suits me everywhere else

I'm
Size 16
age 57
blonde hair to below shoulder
Medium skin tone
great legs
decent boobs DD to E
arms n stomach heavy
Prefer clear bright colours eg not dusky pinks or autumnal colours

I like that New Look dress. Why don’t you just size up? Try the 18/20 and see if this solves the tummy prob?

Bloatstoat · 16/05/2025 22:33

Another meatball on stilts here, following along for suggestions in the hope of finding a summer dress that doesn't make me look pregnant 🤞

Crispynoodle · 16/05/2025 23:36

Yes it will look rubbish because of the gathers under the bust…it will make you look preggers. How do I know? Because I’m quite literally the same height and size as you. Fit and flare dresses look good on me as well as loose maxis

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 17/05/2025 05:25

Same size and as me. I buy a lot of summer dresses from Roman and Fstface.
I go short/ knee length because I have skinny legs.
Going to order this to try this summer

Unfortunately....being an apple I'd look like a sack of spuds in that lol

I'm totally different shape to you but I've just ordered this, might work?

Is this any good? 100% cotton.

I don't have a body shape, I'm just a blob. I was surprised that a wide belt was quite flattering on me, though I appreciate it may be a bit hot for one. But maybe worth trying on the dress you like again with one?

spartanrunnergirl · 17/05/2025 16:21

Just bought the black and cream of this. Nice, feel like a bit of a Whistles dupe. Will be great with tan belt and sandals.

Shirt dresses are my personal favourite, good for my big boobs, skim my tummy and show off my nice legs. Belted shirt dresses being a particular favourite. Search for a broderie shirt dress.

Guavafish1 · 18/05/2025 08:37

Thin fabric

Bunintheovens · 18/05/2025 09:27

In all honesty, I think that dress and similar ones won't do you any favours.

Even with good legs, it's too short and too 'young'. I rarely say that on S&B as I am not ageist (I'm older than you by a long way.) You'd look like sack of spuds tied in the middle. (And so would anyone unless they were 20 and a size 6/8.)

But those dresses are for teens IMO.

You'd look far better in something midi or maxi - far more stylish.

Try Nobody's Child, &OtherStories, Jigsaw, Marks, J Lewis etc.

indecisivewoman81 · 18/05/2025 09:35

I'm apple shape but shorter than you. Dresses that I favour are A-line and linen.

On holiday a couple of years ago I wore this style over and over, then found a shop in Spain that sold very thin cotton ones and bought some of them too.

Try marks and Spencer linen or next linen. Have a look at Hush on Vinted too

Aprilcherry04 · 18/05/2025 10:55

I'm an apple shape but I have chunky legs and arms too, oh and much shorter than you too. I love that new look dress but had the same problem as you, made me look pregnant. Something to do with the way the v goes up between the boob's. You need a dress that is slightly fitted under your bust and then flares out to skim over your tummy. I buy a lot of dresses from Tu, George at Asda, H&M and Next. I haven't bought any this year so can't recommend a particular dress. For me it's trial and error, and a lot of returns! I've started taking pics of me from different when trying on. I used to look in the mirror and like something and then see a pic and hate it.
