Hi guys

Really wondering if you can help me. Off on holiday next month n looking a dress that is cool eg cotton fabric that I could wear in evening

I really love the dress below from new look, but it's not particularly flattering around my stomach! Really suits me everywhere else

I'm
Size 16
age 57
blonde hair to below shoulder
Medium skin tone
great legs
decent boobs DD to E
arms n stomach heavy
Prefer clear bright colours eg not dusky pinks or autumnal colours

Haha you know what I mean! I have friends who are slim but have massive boobs and they have a similar problem. Wear tight tops and they look like a bar wench. But if they don’t wear tight tops they look 3 sizes larger over all.
I think bellies do the same. Wear short dresses to highlight the legs and the torso can look like a meatball. A bit like SpongeBob. But cover the legs to try to even things out and you just feel huge all over.

I think that red dress is a really good overall look and i think the red is amazing. I think that style but with a less pulled in cinching would look great and I think other people won’t actually focus on your middle as much as you do.

Maybe I can lose more weight before I head away! Could maybe lose 8 lbs before I go in 4 weeks! That might help lol

Another fat apple here !.
I feel your pain .
Anything the fits around the bust / stomach is usually too big on the shoulders / hips / legs . No help whatsoever but following with interest, as I either look big all over or a cube on sticks , depending on the style .

Yes....dresses are hard.

I know how to disguise my stomach (somewhat) with trousers, top n nice jacket but trickier in a frock!

Not a great link… fellow Apple here that has recently lost 3 stone but is still an Apple… 😜
you want button through to elongate your torso. This shape is my go to for hot weather and then you could also try a pure linen shirt dress cut below the knee but unbutton the bottom two iyswim. If you’re super conscious of your arms then drape a scarf

MayaPinion · 15/05/2025 22:06

I’m a busty apple too. I have this:

https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1280532003.html

It might not be the colour you’re looking for but there’s a leopard print and a black version and the shape is really flattering and comfortable. It’s roomy in the bosom area too - no skimping on fabric.

Another size 16 big-boobed apple here. I recently took a punt on this dress from Amazon while I was ordering cat litter and god, not only did it fit, it actually suited me. And it's 100% cotton and incredibly comfy and soft. I got it in navy and the pattern was nothing like as bold as the photo, much more muted, but can't speak of the brighter colours. Oh and it has pockets. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08564B1SX?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1&psc=1

I am also an apple, with long thin legs. I find shirt dresses are often a good option but in a softer fabric like a cheesecloth cotton, or viscose, silk or a soft linen. If they are in a stiff cotton they tend to be less flattering because they're more likely to get bunched up looking.

Great reveiws for the bigger chested woman as I am myself. Unsure of the actual fabric, fairly good reveiws. I tend to go to Boundary Mill to see what treasures lurk.

Love dress but unfortunately wrong fabric fir Greece in summer

Love the red dress!
Avoiding carbs for 24 hours takes inches off my waistline. I eat steak, blue-cheese sauce, wilted spinach, boiled egg with cayenne pepper and salt sprinkled on it... and drink stupid amounts of water. Good luck!

Worth checking out sainsburys. I love their dresses

I'm a 16/18 Apple and have found the Whitestuff Lucy dress flattering, it's not as gathered or acute angle under the boobs as the new look dress, so it hugs my boobs and skims the belly , QVC have a couple on clearance price but the summer version sleeves are long short sleeves rather than a full sleeve and it's a midi rather than knee length

Do wrap dresses suit you? Or another style where you have a slightly longer dress with a slit in the skirt that shows off your legs? That might balance your tummy to avoid the cocktail-stick effect!

Something like this...

Hahahah. Love the creativity with the meatball on toothpicks. Many men have that with their beer bellies!

Edited

Me too, my nickname was Emu for the same reason, big middle and skinny legs :)

Unfortunately I don't have much of a waist so end up looking like a bag of spuds in those dresses lol

You didn't say how tall are you? I think a kaftan type dress with a deep V neck, hides a lot, cool and floating and makes the most of a good cleavage! A lovely deep coral colour would look great with blonde hair! Have a google, but tesco and m&s do some surprisingly reasonable dresses.

Unfortunately kaftans make me look about two sizes bigger than I actually am lol

I have exact the same problem as the OP. I'm also 57 and a size 10 ish bottom with 32ff boobs . Coincidentally I'm just back from a pre holiday shopping trip and went into new look, H and m,zara ,John Lewis and river island and couldn't find and nice summer dresses that would flatter my shape ...

Sillysaussicon · 16/05/2025 16:39

Google 'Kibbe Flamboyant Natural' for ideas on styles that work with your body type. And I'd recommend reading about Kibbe styling anyway, it's a bit of a rabbit hole but a game changer for me learning to dress my body.
