Skechers sandals or Birkenstocks?

Ineedcoffeenow · 10/05/2025 21:19

I have a holiday coming up that will involve a lot of walking. I need good arch support and a
wide fit. Should I go with Skechers sandals or Birkenstocks?

I need arch support but for me the Birkenstock positioning isn't quite right and it was really painful. So if you haven't got a pair already I'd be slightly cautious. My sketchers are a delight though!

I have a wide foot and can't get on with Birkenstocks. I find Fitflop trainers or sandals suit me best

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 10/05/2025 21:41

No way Birkenstocks. I find them very uncomfortable.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 10/05/2025 21:42

Try “heavenly feet”. Same design as Birkies but without the high instep. I too have broad feet, and bought me first pair last week and have already ordered them in another colour they’re so comfy!

Ineedcoffeenow · 10/05/2025 21:52

That’s good to know. I’ve had people rave about Birkenstocks and how comfy they are but was never too sure.

I loooove my Birkenstocks!

They do a wide fit but hard to find

Tulipsontoast · 10/05/2025 22:20

I have only tried Birkenstocks but I love them.

fatgirlswims · 11/05/2025 00:24

Try Teva. They are elite! Birks are ok but not super comfy. I wouldn’t wear any sketchers

Lindtnotlint · 11/05/2025 01:21

I have v v fussy feet and love my Skechers sandals I bought recently. Wore them for loads of walking on holiday and went straight out and bought a second pair. They are “go walk flex sublime”. They are not too hideous looking (though I am sure trendier people would differ) and they are truly comfy.

NattyTurtle59 · 11/05/2025 03:15

I've tried Birkenstocks twice and found them uncomfortable. I like Merrell sandals.

Tarkan · 11/05/2025 03:18

I love my Skechers sandals. Had them for years and they’re probably the only footwear I’ve had in my whole life that hasn’t ever hurt my feet in some way.

coxesorangepippin · 11/05/2025 03:20

Birkenstock s are great, but not for city walking

I find crocs are best for long distance walking in the heat. Me and my husband went Jordan and he climbed the mountains in Wadi Rum and walked the whole of Petra in crocs. I've since used them and find them to be the best for these kind of holidays

If I could post pictures of my feet rn I would. The entire sides of my soles are torn off and blistered due to wearing arizona birkenstocks in europe the last few days. And these were bought before they sold the company and the quality supposedly dropped off!!! Stay away

CrownCoats · 11/05/2025 05:31

I can walk for miles in my Birkenstocks. They have been my main summer shoe for years. However, I know some people find them uncomfortable. The other sandals that I find very comfortable are Teva.

marriednotdead · 11/05/2025 05:57

I have always found the Scholl Bioprint range far more comfortable than Birkenstocks, and several of the styles have fully adjustable straps. My Lusakas and more recently Zafirahs have taken me miles without any issues.

Agree with this, I have high arches but the Birkenstocks footbed pushes into my foot uncomfortably. I’ve recently bought some Skechers slip ons, stylish they are not but they are so comfortable! Would work for wide feet I think as there’s some room left around my slightly narrow feet.

uggmum · 11/05/2025 06:33

I find Birkenstocks really comfortable. They need breaking in and hurt a bit until they are. I usually walk around in them at home for 2 weeks. Then suddenly they are a dream.

unsync · 11/05/2025 06:35

You need to break Birkenstocks in if you decide on them. Try them on in a shop first to make sure you get the right fit, they do come in two widths. They also do a walking sandal.

Seymourscat · 11/05/2025 06:49

Tbh if I’m walking a lot I wear trainers and socks.

28Fluctuations · 11/05/2025 06:51

Birks are all I wear all summer, every summer. For decades now. I hike in them, drive in them, walk miles and miles in them.

I only buy Arizona style and always the suede straps (so soft and flexible).

They do wide fit and regular fit. They support my bad feet beautifully.

I wore Skechers for one walking holiday. They are comfy, as foam soles are cushiony and flexible. I found the plastic too sweaty and hot, though. And I did not like the look as much.

I also rate Merrels - somehow less suffocating than Skechers ànd wonderfully cushy. Tevas I really did not find comfortable - the straps felt scratchy..

Sirzy · 11/05/2025 07:00

Another vote for Skechers. They are the only sandals I have found that are super comfy and don’t rub at all. I found Birkenstock disappointingly uncomfortable

Toomanydogwalks · 11/05/2025 07:04

Birkenstock fan here. I’ve got high arches, sketchers gave me plantar fasciitis so I avoid those.
