As well as the magazine? There are no fashion programmes on TV ( terrestrial ) now.

Loved that programme! Wondering if Instagram makes it redundant though. Selina Scott was so gorgeous!

Britpopbaby · 02/05/2025 19:36

I am watching the Galliano doc on Netflix and watching it reminded me of The Clothes Show as I am sure he won one of their (I assume it was their) design awards, maybe Menswear.

That brings back memories. We always used to look out for the name of someone we knew in the credits!

DaveClifton · 02/05/2025 19:44

Oh my god YES. Bloody loved it, watched it every week! I even went to The Clothes Show Live at the NEC and met Jean Paul Gaultier who was so flamboyant and lovely.
I’d much rather watch The Clothes Show for an hour every week on telly than keep scrolling through hundreds of bland, insincere, same-same mumflencers on Instagram to get style tips. Yawn.

abracadabra1980 · 02/05/2025 20:35

Slight deviation here but I have just bought Hello magazine for the first time in probably, a decade. Yasmin Le Bon was on the front and for turning 60, she looks absolutely amazing. If only the people who discord their faces could take a leaf out of Yasmin's book...

asparagusffern · 02/05/2025 23:23

I'd adored it, I used to tape it on the video recorder (!) and watch each episode multiple times.

I often think of a woman who won a competition to have her wedding dress designed by Romeo Gigli who made her the most beautiful, ethereal concoction from layers of silk chiffon. It was an absolute dream.

That must have been nearly 40 years ago, how could that be?!

1988abc · 03/05/2025 08:25

@asparagusffern
I've just fallen down a bit of a dark hole and come across this little YouTube video. Doubt it's your lady but look at the clothes! Amazing.

Britpopbaby · 03/05/2025 19:28

I miss proper fashion shows on the TV.

I was thinking of this the other day! Never forgotten the theme tune.

Openthisdoor · 03/05/2025 19:58

I had totally forgotten about the clothes show, absolutely loved it!

madaboutpurple · 03/05/2025 20:13

Fashion gets covered on Lorraine and This Morning so it does get covered on television. I used to like all the programmes What not to wear etc.

If you're interested, it's a Pet Shop Boys song called In The Night. Absolute banger!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/05/2025 20:27

I loved it, it was sort of lost in the listings late on Sunday pm wasn't it ? I thought Caryn Franklin was so stylish. I was not!

TheLeadbetterLife · 03/05/2025 20:27

I think about this all the time, I would love to see a return of The Clothes Show. As a pp said, so much better than anonymous scrolling. I also miss programmes like Food & Drink and the original version of Home Front, before it was a stupid makeover format. I don't want real people and their maudlin sob stories, I want good TV presenters giving me useful and interesting information.

Init4thecatz · 03/05/2025 20:28

So much so that I actually have the pet shop boys theme in my playlist!

In The Night!

I snuck it into a fashion parody thing I wrote for kids' TV a few years ago. I knew the kids watching wouldn't notice, but I hoped some of the parents might get the reference.

Toootss · 03/05/2025 20:36

OMG - a cheerful tv programme with a happy ending. Nice presenters, good music -lovely bride. Why is there nothing like that now?

Emotionalsupporthamster · 03/05/2025 21:17

I remember watching it with my mum as a kid. I really wish there was a decent fashion programme on TV instead of just makeover shows. Instagram etc are all very well but I would love something properly curated and professionally presented.

NeedWineNow · 03/05/2025 22:22

The Clothes Show was a brilliant programme! Loved The Clothes Show Live as well - it used to be a real day out for me and a couple of girlfriends.

bakermummy21 · 03/05/2025 22:30

loved The Clothes Show too. Can’t understand why there isn’t more fashion shows on tv!

CosyRoby · 03/05/2025 22:33

Loved it too
Im sure there was an episode where they flew to the fawklands islands to show items made with the wool from there ?
Also agree Karyn Franklin was great presenter. Didn’t she always have iconic lippy ?

Gowlett · 03/05/2025 22:36

Loved it, and then What Not To Wear.

Insta is boring, I prefer magazines still.

But they’re so bloody expensive now…

Wallabyone · 03/05/2025 22:46

I used to love this when I was young. We even went to Clothes Show Live as a GCSE textiles trip…the glamour! I used to like the later fashion progs too-Gok, Trinny and Susannah. Now there’s nothing 😢

Yes but that’s day time TV and if you are working etc. you might not get to see it and it’s only very brief too.

I remember how TCS covered using fish scales to make shoes etc. I think any TV prog now would really need to champion sustainability at the fore front.
