Marks and Spencer is very BROWN atm

Yes i know other shops available but have loved the Marks regeneration recently.

Went to a mega size store and it did not look as good as it has recently. Online it looks cool - in store less.
Online they have loads of lovely occasionwear separates that look ace, in store it looks like droopy sequin knits and weird brown knitwear that look a bit like a hessian sack.

There's too much brown, beige and cream everywhere for my liking atm 😃

M&S is such a weird thing. Their online stuff looks pretty good. It arrives and is fine. In store though it looks far worse. Like pile em high, keep it cheap. You could buy the exact same item online and be happy with the purchase. Yet go into a store to buy it and think "yuck"! It's kind of genius how they display things so badly.

Happyinarcon · 09/04/2025 16:36

I noticed that, all the clothes are just squeezed onto racks like rags, it makes everything look so soulless and mass produced. I know they are, but they didn’t used to look it

BobbinThreadbare123 · 09/04/2025 16:41

I'm not keen on this weird yellow that seems to be popular at the moment, or the indigestion medicine pink. M&S had loads of that too.
But then I am essentially a goth so I will stick to my black clobber and shut up!

DramaAlpaca · 09/04/2025 16:54

I'm also loving the M&S offerings recently, but I never, ever wear brown. It's just not my colour. It seems to be everywhere at the moment, not just M&S.

Unfortunately, I'm a long way from an M&S store, so I only shop with them online. I do have a reasonable hit rate with them though, and at least returns are free.

LoveDandelions · 09/04/2025 17:19

I'm the opposite - I was so happy to see some brown in M&S recently. I was hoping it meant that brown was now 'in' on the high street (is it?) I absolutely love it! 😁

Delatron · 09/04/2025 17:22

Brown is very much in fashion at the moment. Plus yellow- a buttery yellow.

Duckies · 09/04/2025 17:22

I've been waiting for brown's return since the 90s 😊

But I agree with the sadness of M&S displays.

Delatron · 09/04/2025 17:23

M&S is great online. I just bought an amazing suede look jacket for £55.

The stores need to catch up I guess.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 09/04/2025 17:24

I thought this when I went in yesterday - it all looked so drab and unseasonal.

Evolutionarygoals · 09/04/2025 17:25

I think it depends on the store too. There's a couple near me and one makes me feel sad, the other manages to make the stuff look ok. Caveat: I'm usually with DD so I don't generally get a chance to actually shop in the second store. It might be more depressing up close

PuppyMonkey · 09/04/2025 17:25

Does this mean brown is the new black again? After all these years.Smile

LoveDandelions · 09/04/2025 17:29

It sounds like I can give it a few months and I'll be able to start shopping sales and Vinted for enough brown to last me the next few decades 😁

TheOGCCL · 09/04/2025 17:30

The problem for me, as an Autumn season who really suits brown, is that somehow the browns are often cool, better suited to a Summer. I find almost everything in M&S has a cool tint.

Oh no! I need warm browns too... please don't tell me I'm not getting any!

tobee · 09/04/2025 17:52

It was "chocolate" in the colder months. Now it's more "tan" or "camel".

I'm jewel winter and there's barely anything in my colours. It's all pale khaki, cream and light brown. Looking at the trends for summer it looks more of the same ime.

I can just about do those 2 blues:-

Marks and Spencer is very BROWN atm
tobee · 09/04/2025 17:57

According to another site, frog green is also in 🐸

Lifestooshort71 · 09/04/2025 18:09

I thought you meant the stores were brown - ours has recently been refurbished (and lost its cafe) and the whole place looks gloomy! The food bit in particular is dark and grim. I remember when they opened a new Debenhams near us pre-covid and walls were white, lights were bright and everything sparkled - it made a huge difference! Our M&S is dismal by comparison. Sorry, the brown clothes.......

FantasiaTurquoise · 09/04/2025 18:30

Totally with you. I have loved M&S the last few seasons, and as a short woman it's often the only place where I can get trousers to fit, but this season is all floaty, sludge-coloured sacks. I was very uninspired in store and some of the things I tried on made me feel quite down on myself because their sizing varies so wildly from one item to another. Hope they're back to colour in autumn.

UpToonGirl · 09/04/2025 18:34

M&S must have been doing a massive push with influencers recently as they are all over my feed. It's working as I was thinking I needed to pop in and have a look next time I'm in town!

I’m not keen on the yellow either.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 09/04/2025 18:41

'Mocha Mousse' is the colour of the season. No prayer of me wearing it though, and it feels completely wrong for Spring to me.

I like the sound of eating it. But really it's called that because they can't call it drab brown.

It's making me think of a boutique for Eeyore

Notanastronaut · 09/04/2025 20:26

Next in 2005 was FULL of brown. I forgot how much it suited me until I bought a nice brown sweater. 20 years ish without wearing brown at all.

I look awful in cream and buttery yellow though!

RhannionKPSS · 09/04/2025 20:29

Lots of red in other shops I noticed this week
