Why do lots of mums wear baggy t-shirts and 3/4 cargo trousers ....

is it a uniform or what? I am about to have dc3 (and already have two under 5) and am working from home for 2 days a week now so no need for work clothes. How do I avoid going down the slippery slope to comfort and not caring (wails)

Good looks for mothers here

noddyholder · 16/05/2008 12:00

I think if you are v slim toned and tanned then a pair of very authentic army trousers can look good I have seen this at a few festivals and was envious! But everyday cheapy cargo trousers with lots of pockets and in pastel colours are hideous!

Completely agree - they have to be really good quality.

No one should ever wear pastels anyway. Vile.

Anna8888 · 16/05/2008 12:03

They are really sexy ...

Are you writing about middle age cliche everywhere today Cod??

Anna8888 · 16/05/2008 12:12

IMO bright colours have to be worn very judiciously, and in small touches... Bright green, bright blue and yellow should never, ever be worn. Scarlet, pink and orange are fine if the rest of the outfit is very low key...

A load of crap is what many, many women wear

noddyholder · 16/05/2008 12:23

i only say no jersey VESTS on ME!They look good on others but I look rubbish-boobs too big

stuffitllama · 16/05/2008 12:23

if linen trews look wrong or mumsy it's because you have the wrong ones that don't fit you or because you're wearing them with the wrong stuff like large tshirts or collared shirts or polo shirts yuk

capri pants are alright if you do the audrey hepburn thing with them

army pants are all saints nineties even with a tight feminine t shirts

and shorts are not an option

one tans on the beach not on the school run

Anna8888 · 16/05/2008 12:25

Vests are pretty vile unless worn under something floaty for extra body coverage.

You really need to look like Angelina Jolie to carry off a vest.

noddyholder · 16/05/2008 12:27

this is a thtread about fashion and I don't think of it as serious at all.But it is a subject where everyone has an opinion and in teh big picture it doesn't matter and is meant to be fun surely?

Flame · 16/05/2008 12:27

I am happy looking vile in my vests and shorts.

Anna8888 · 16/05/2008 12:31

I'm reeling in horror this week now that the sun has come out. Why do old French women (1) carry on wearing short skirt suits which went out of fashion in the early 1990s (2) take off their tights and carry on wearing same short skirt suits when the sun comes out, even though they are past their bare-leg sell by date?

EEEEEEEEEEEUGH

zippitippitoes · 16/05/2008 12:31

well if you are toned tanned superfit and glamorous then you can wewr anything or nothing

most mners are thankfully few of those things lolol

Anna8888 · 16/05/2008 12:32

Which is why we have these threads, Zippi - to suggest strategies to overcome lack of glamour

stuffitllama · 16/05/2008 12:34

oh yes noddy

this is a vent IMPOSSIBLE anywhere else certainly not at the school gate

please don't be offended anyone

just stay calm and go and buy some linen trousers and everything will be alright

nailpolish · 16/05/2008 12:38
