Just a day after washing! Why! I’m 36 and I’ve never had this problem before.

I’ve tried aveeno and head and shoulders clarifying shampoos. If anything, head and shoulders has made it worse.

What can I do apart from wash my hair every night?

leviosanotleviosa25 · 28/03/2025 12:33

Bumble and bumble Sunday shampoo is the best clarifying one I’ve use
the loreal(?) clay shampoo is meant to be good as well
Use dry shampoo at night

WhatIsCorndogs · 28/03/2025 12:39

Why don't you want to wash it daily? If you don't remove the oil and skin buildup you risk fungal infections and scalp irritation. I wash mine every morning. I use the new purple bottle elvive shampoo for oily hair, that's pretty good - they also have a scalp treatment you use weekly.

sunshinechaser · 28/03/2025 12:42

I wash my hair daily and feel dirty and muggy if I don’t. I wash with Vosene which is good for oily hair as it contains salicylic acid which kind of acts like an exfoliator for my scalp.

I washed my hair daily for years, but stopped a couple years ago.

Not really sure why! I wash it every other day.

As far as I understand washing daily isn’t great and will add to the oil issue

No, that's a myth. If you had an oily face, you would wash it right? There's nothing wrong with washing daily if you're oily. I've done it my whole adult life and my hair is healthy as can be.

I see!

This has only just become a problem in the last month or so. It’s so unexpected I’m wondering if it’s something to do with my face creams at night in bed!

I do wash it when it’s oily, but it has never been oily never mind within a day or so of washing. I’ve started sprouting greys, perhaps the whole thing is just changing.

I wash mine daily and it looks fab - it really doesn't if I try to go any less frequent 😆 and I've tried a variety of intervals and products. Things that help include:

Cotton pillowcases, changed frequently
Aussie Rules shampoo
Batiste volumising dry shampoo if I'm going to be doing something that will make me very sweaty
Towel dry, never blow dry
Try to keep your hands out of it as much as possible
If you use conditioner only use it on the length, not the crown/scalp

Thanks! I have to use the hair dryer, as my hair is very fine and very wavy. If I don’t use the hairdryer, I have to use heat / straighteners.

I'd actually blow dry instead of towel dry! It gives my hair more lift and keeps it away from my scalp more.

It could be your face cream! Try washing in the morning maybe? Or trying a bonnet overnight? Or it's just good old hormones.

I used to have this OP!!! I switched to using OUAI shampoo and conditioner which helped massively BUT it is pretty expensive (although it does smell amazing).

I read somewhere online about Umberto Giannini shampoos and have been using the banana one for a few months now. Not as good as OUAI but definitely better than any other I've used!

How old are you OP if you don't mind me asking? Could it be hormonal/perimenopause?

BucketFacer · 28/03/2025 13:16

Are your hairbrushes/hot brushes clean?

Coffeeishot · 28/03/2025 13:18

Do you use conditioner? I use it rarely because my hair can be the same ? And my hair is rank after straighteners, I have a hot brush now its better.

E45 shampoo worked wonders for me.

Nooa · 28/03/2025 14:08

Maybe it depends on your hair type, but I also find that if I wash every day my fine hair gets greasier much faster. I do every other day too. Over time I've switched to SLS free shampoo, which doesn't strip all the sebum off the hair. It does mean I can't use any styling products containing silicones (because SLS-free shampoo does not remove them), but there are alternatives. But it's way less greasy than when I washed it every other day with standard shampoo.

Occasionally I get greasier hair again but it's always hormonal and balances out again after the blip! Maybe yours is hormonal too since it came on suddenly?

OldCottageGreenhouse · 28/03/2025 14:38

Washing your hair daily is nuts and totally unnecessary. You’re stripping your hair of it’s natural oils and destroying it. Fine for very short hair as the shampoo washes out super quick but the longer your hair is, the longer it takes for the soap to wash out, so the more damage can be done.

Berlinlover · 28/03/2025 14:52

Faith in Nature shampoo for oily hair is the only shampoo that has ever worked for me.

I tried this a while ago and it gave me hair like straw unfortunately!

I had the Christophe Robin product above in a beauty box once. Although it sounds weird it really did help the condition of my hair.

pecanpie101 · 28/03/2025 20:05

Are you double washing OP?
I wash mine twice a week (after years of washing daily)
I double shampoo, condition, blow dry and wear in a loose bun at night m.
