50 something woman that has noted trainers seem to be the thing to wear for smart casual instead of my usual ballet flats. No idea of what brand or style appropriate. Which do I wear with jeans

Please help

How do they come up size-wise? I’m usually a 6 but my feet are wide at the front, and I need a 6.5 in adidas Gazelles.

I find them everyone slighter larger lengthwise than adidas. I recently bought a blue Elan pair and they are really comfortable and I like a wider fit. I have very narrow heels though and these stay on my feet but give my toes wriggle room!

There was a thread recently on wide fit trainers and lots of people recommended going for mens trainers.

They're definitely running shoes not fashion trainers. Great brand Saucony for running

I'm sure you're right @Onafp, but fortunately, you're not obliged to run in them, so they serve me very well as I stomp about the streets of London😄. I suffer from plantar fasciitis from time to time, and they're certainly not exacerbating that. Time will tell if they prevent it, but so far so good on that front.

Oh definitely if they help on that front x

@ZiaMcnab , They are a running shoe model from the early 00s. I wore them for running. They were definitely not a fashion item then.

I find it strange that ugly running shoes are being worn as fashion. In their favour, at least they are not pink or purple.

Someone posted some truly hideous beige HOKA shoes upthread.

That was me with the Hoka trainers, I really like them 😋

They might look ok IRL.

Gosh they're like new balance 327s.

I have to be so careful what I wear and need arch support and found things like skechers and puma/Adidas awful unless I added insoles. Recently bought some from Vionic...brilliant and wore a whole week in European cities sightseeing.

Edited

@Titasaducksarse Adidas spezials have arch support 👀
I know!!!! Didn’t realise until they arrived. Bloody delightful to wear.

Adidas campus however - pile of uncomfortable shite. My 16 yr old loves them though.

Help please! I need a black dress for a funeral. I'm 5 foot six big boobs and a fat tummy. Any suggestions please?

DuchessOfNarcissex · 20/05/2025 23:20

Try Marks and Spencer or Johnny Lew @Member869894 . You might want to start a thread of your own. Sorry for your loss.

dudsville · 22/05/2025 15:54

I've tried so many pairs of trainers over the past month and had given up, but off the back of this thread I bought some Hoff. I'd not heard of them previously. They just arrived. My goodness these are well made, supportive, sturdy but comfortable, and heavily discounted. Win win, finally!

Nomoreidea · 22/05/2025 16:02

Any tried Hoka?

beguilingeyes · 22/05/2025 16:03

Fit Flop Rally are simple and classic

I’m waiting for delivery of some:

Salomon XA Pro 3D Amphib Trainers

Am rather older than the OP - and not generally interested in the trainer market except for actual sport. But these are essentially water-friendly hiking shoes - which should be perfect over a city summer when I might spend hours walking through woods and fields and college gardens and then end up at the cinema or a book launch. I was getting so tired of the weight of my big clumpy boots, and the prissiness of my t bar shoes.

I have Onitskuka Tiger Mexico 66s which were recommended by a fellow MNetter. They're lovely, and they're comfortable. I have the two colours below, but I see they're more expensive now than when I bought them:

MEXICO 66 | Onitsuka Tiger GB

MEXICO 66 | Onitsuka Tiger GB

They are fabulous in yellow (of Uma Thurman fame!) - saw quite a few young women wearing them in Paris a couple of weeks ago.

I am having a no buy year so haven't bought and worn these but I would love to have these Novesta trainers from Toast. They look comfortable and smart.

The Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 has gained a celebrity following.
