50 something woman that has noted trainers seem to be the thing to wear for smart casual instead of my usual ballet flats. No idea of what brand or style appropriate. Which do I wear with jeans

Please help

I love Rieker or Clarks, both are comfortable and a great price.

I have Onitskuka Tiger Mexico 66s which were recommended by a fellow MNetter. They're lovely, and they're comfortable. I have the two colours below, but I see they're more expensive now than when I bought them:

MEXICO 66 | Onitsuka Tiger GB

MEXICO 66 | Onitsuka Tiger GB

I bought 3 pairs a year ago and they wear shockingly. :(

Having to replace them already as they’ve lost their structure.

Oh no! Well, I have plenty of suggestions from folks here when I need to replace them.

This is a bit of a subjective question OP - you’ll get responses from dedicated sneakerheads who wouldn’t be seen dead in certain styles/brands and from those who prioritise comfort over fashion sensibilities.
I realise I’m not actually helping by pointing this out, but unless you’re particularly bothered about having the “in” trainers of the moment, I’d suggest going to your nearest Schuh or wherever and just seeing what you like the look of and what feels best.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 29/03/2025 17:20

Good advice @TerrysCIockworkOrange . I love the look of the Adidas ones mentioned but my feet hate them.

MissyB1 · 29/03/2025 17:30

Saw these in Clarks the other day, think I will be going back to get them.

Oh those are nice too @upsofloating? I have never heard of that brand

Those are the ones Bruce Lee wore in his last film Game of Death. The distinctive yellow ones

eatreadsleeprepeat · 29/03/2025 17:52

I am a big Adidas fan but mainly because they work for my feet. You really need to try different makes on to see what suits you. Schu has a few different makes and are usually helpful. Adidas also has a fair number of outlet stores!

If you like the look some of the New Balance styles try Golas. There are some great colours which are a little bit more up to date than the ubiquitous white ones. Although always useful to ha e a white pair of course.

How do they come up size-wise? I’m usually a 6 but my feet are wide at the front, and I need a 6.5 in adidas Gazelles.

I’m also in my 50’s and absolutely love that it’s ok to wear trainers out! I have two pairs of New Balance, but I also got a pair of black and beige trainers from new look and I’ve had so many compliments on them, I’ve even been asked if they’re Vans.

ive had Hoff and they were horrible.

I love Reebok Club C 85 Vintage and New Balance 237s (although harder to find these days).

NB 237s

Comfiest trainers ever

I love Hoka trainers, but admittedly am far more interested in comfort over style, recently got these and they are so lightweight and felt great from day one. They're chunky, but I'm only a size 4 so don't look too boat like.

I'm in my mid-40s and live in south London, and regularly see big & chunky, sports-like trainers on people younger than me, which made me very happy, as I don't get on with the converse type any more and am not a fan of the NB style for me. I therefore bought the Saucony ProGrid Triumph 4 a few weeks ago, and I'm I love with them! So comfy and I think they look good with all sorts, not that I care much about being trendy these days 😂

@ZiaMcnab , those are running shoes and last a very long time.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 01/04/2025 15:22

or they were about 20 years ago. Smile

SheridansPortSalut · 01/04/2025 16:43

Hoff turned out to be the most uncomfortable trainers that I've ever owned. The soles are so stiff.

StrikeForever · 01/04/2025 16:45

I have just been for my first walk in these. I took a chance on them because they are highly recommended for problem feet. I realised part way through the walk that I hadn’t even thought about my feet, they were so comfortable straight from the off. I have some beautiful trainers that I’ll wear when bobbing around, but for real walking, these are the ones. www.amazon.co.uk/Skechers-Arch-Fit-Big-Appeal/dp/B0DBM2NV8W

BeretRaspberry · 01/04/2025 18:15

I’ve worn Gazelles or Samba for years but then I found these for a change and they’re actually a bit cheaper. I’ve got both of these colours to wear with different colours. (I’m 49)

They're definitely running shoes not fashion trainers. Great brand Saucony for running

Onafp · 01/04/2025 18:20

Hoff are always dreadful colours.

I love M&S trainers at the moment......
