How old is your oldest bottle of perfume?

I have found some perfumes go off and smell horrid in old age but others seem to keep well as long as they are kept dark and cool.
My oldest bottle is about 25 years old and still smells exactly the same. It’s Penhaligons Violetta. Still love it and I bought a supply just before it was discontinued so I should have some for years to come.
Some of my older Jo Malone’s have kept well - Pomegranate Noir and Vetiver- but Red Red Roses went very yucky after about 5 years. All were kept in their boxes.

3 months. I use daily, don't keep for best and keep out of the sun.

A bottle of Chanel No 5 that my friend bought my mum when she visited in 1981. Kept in box in a drawer, still smells glorious (and better than the modern iteration)

About 25 years old - it's Atkinsons Vanilla Tales (I don't think they still make it?) and it's a really beautiful fragrance. I don't very often wear it but still quite potent!

I keep all my perfume boxed in a cool dark place in the house when not wearing them and rotate each season!

I have a bottle of Balmain’s Vent Vert from the 1950s, it’s in a drawer in a box and doesn’t seem to have gone off. I’ve got a bottle of the reformulation from the 00s, and the smell is pretty similar, only the original is much richer and nicer - I save it for special occasions.

CanIbeRio · 03/03/2025 18:38

A bottle of Ralph Lauren Romance which I used on my wedding day 22.5 years ago. No idea what it smells like now as it's in the attic with all my other wedding bits

Meadowfinch · 03/03/2025 18:41

A bottle of Coco Chanel, from Christmas 2016. It's still very strong.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 03/03/2025 18:43

JPG Classique >30 YO. I was eking it out, in case it had been reformulated, but I recently purchased a new bottle and they smell exactly the same. I also have an unopened bottle of Christian Dior Dune that must be 15 YO.

Bottle of Opium in original 1970s brown packaging think it dates from about 1982

fromthevault · 03/03/2025 18:49

A bottle of Miss Dior that is probably from the 70s. I bought it (boxed) from an antiques fair and tried to work out the vintage from the internet. It's still wearable.

I have quite a lot of 'vintage' and discontinued perfume, but that's probably my oldest.

dayslikethese1 · 03/03/2025 18:53

I've got some YSL perfume from 2010. Still smells good and nearly the same as when I got it.

mdinbc · 03/03/2025 19:14

I have a bottle of Shiseido Zen in the black bottle with the tiniest bit at the bottom. I don't really intend to use it; I just give it a nostalgic sniff once in a while to remind me of my younger days! I think it's from the 90's

Other than that I tend to use fragrance; it will take about 6 months to use a day fragrance, and a few years for an evening fragrance.

evilharpy · 03/03/2025 20:08

Half a bottle of Nina Ricci Delices d'Epices from approx 1999. It smells very slightly when first sprayed but perfect when dried down.

haufbiskiy · 03/03/2025 20:13

I have a bottle of body shop white musk oil from when I was 15. I'm now 51. It still smells the same.

TattiePants · 03/03/2025 20:32

I just had to google when Narciso Rodriguez first came out. Apparently it was 2003 so my oldest bottle is 22 years. I keep them in their boxes and in a dark cupboard.

maaataa · 03/03/2025 21:01

I still have my late mum's Avon Tasha- it takes me right back into her arms when I have a sniff. I still have a tiny bit of J'adore left from 2003 when I was in my second year of uni!

CharlotteCChapel · 03/03/2025 21:40

Haven't a clue. It's a bottle of DKNY pure vanilla. It only comes out of the box when I spray it and it's still good. I think it may be about 15 years old

SwedishEdith · 03/03/2025 21:45

Quite a few from the 1980s so nearly 40 years old.

ForAzureSeal · 03/03/2025 21:45

About 30 year old Coco eau de parfum.

We're from the same era - I also have one. Mine's a small round bottle.

SoftandQuiet · 03/03/2025 21:51

Yes I have a Body Shop strawberry my boyfriend got me for Christmas 1994. Memories in as bottle

MissBattleaxe · 03/03/2025 21:51

I have a bottle of Balmain Jolie Madame from the 1950s. It's been kept well, in its box and in the dark and I try a little sniff on skin once a year. Still gorgeous.

IntoTheVoid68 · 03/03/2025 21:55

Miss Selfridge Soft Talk
I’ve had it since I was 16 and I’m 56 now.
it’s a spray and it smells the same.

MissyGirlie · 03/03/2025 21:59

A tiny little bottle of Ma Griffe which belonged to DM and is probably almost 50 years old. Still smells amazing, and is almost all gone.
Other than that, some Anais Anais which is pushing 40...

DisforDarkChocolate · 03/03/2025 22:06

Chanel No 5, I wore it on my wedding day in 2002. Still smells good.
