How old is your oldest bottle of perfume?

I have found some perfumes go off and smell horrid in old age but others seem to keep well as long as they are kept dark and cool.
My oldest bottle is about 25 years old and still smells exactly the same. It’s Penhaligons Violetta. Still love it and I bought a supply just before it was discontinued so I should have some for years to come.
Some of my older Jo Malone’s have kept well - Pomegranate Noir and Vetiver- but Red Red Roses went very yucky after about 5 years. All were kept in their boxes.

Estée Lauder ,youth dew ,My Mum died 11 years ago and it was her favourite perfume …still wear it quite often.

Same here. I wear Youth Dew on my mum's birthday and the anniversary of her death. It's very comforting.

I have a bottle of Mitsouko that I think is from the 70s. The top notes are gone, but it develops into something pretty awesome.

Youth Dew Tom Ford from 2006 it's still perfect I love it. It was a limited edition

I have a bottle of Chanel Allure my nan bought me almost 20 years ago. I only wear it for nights out so it'll probably last me my whole life!

We lost her over 10 years ago and I think of her every time I put it on.

I’ve got some from around 1997-1999 but they have sadly gone off. They’re from discontinued fragrances though so I’m quite sentimental about them!

The oldest usable bottle I have is a bottle of Tocca Florence bought in c.2011. I was just thinking the other day that I ought to use that up before it goes bad. It was about £45 when I bought it, and I’m astonished to see it now costs over £100. Perfume has gone up ridiculously in the last ten years - especially after Brexit (no surprise there).

@haufbiskiy I have a bottle of body shop dewberry from about 1992/-93 and still smells good too 😊

A third of a bottle of Champagne from 1994. Still smells the same.

A hint of Revlon Sheer Scent Ultima II, smells wonderful and like Fahrenheit 😂 as it always did. Circa 2000?

And lastly a full set minus one of French Perfumes in a gold box from 1987. All of them were horrible. They still are.

Oh, I've got some original Champagne as well. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to it but I love/d it. Can't get rid even though I can't wear it.

Mont Blanc Legend. I've had it for nearly a decade, haven't even opened it yet. I store it in one of those insulated lunch box things in a cool, dry spot. Hoping it will be intact when I finally crack it open.

I have a 47 year old bottle of original L’Interdit. I use it rarely and sparingly. Also a 45 year old bottle of Opium, ditto. The new formulations are not the same.

I have an Anais Anais that my GM gave to my mum as a gift when I was born in 1986

Seacatt · 04/03/2025 01:44

I have a small bottle of Capricci by Nina Ricci from 1977.

My DF bought it for me for my 21st birthday.

I have loved reading about all these treasures from the past.
Especially @IntoTheVoid68 Miss Selfridge Soft Talk as I had completely forgotten about that perfume even though I spent most of my youth in that shop buying something to wear for a night out doing the rowing boat dance on a sticky floor somewhere.

A bottle of Joy by Jean Patou from about 1975, my brother bought it for me, but it was too sophisticated for a 14 year old. I think it smells nicer now than then, kept in its box, and it's never warm in this house 😕
