Am I too old to pull off gazelles? Should my first nice pair of trainers be white?

Just that really. Have seen some blue and pink gazelles that I love but worry that in my early 40s I’ll look a bit ridiculous, a bit try hard?
also I read somewhere that a white pair of trainers is a staple. I do like white trainers but I have size 8 feet so always feel a bit enormous in them. Are veja completely out of style now? I would like to say I don’t care about looking outdated, but let’s face it I do!!

Well I'm 41 and have 7 pairs of Gazelles! No, you're not too old for them!

BitOutOfPractice · 27/02/2025 11:25

I’m 57 and have gazelles. I missed the memo that said they had a cut off date. 😳

LavenderBlue19 · 27/02/2025 11:25

I'm 43 and have Gazelles? I think they're fairly ubiquitous, in fact I'd say wide leg jeans/trousers and some form of Adidas trainer is middle-aged mum uniform around here.

I also have big feet for my height (size 7 but I feel like they look enormous) and I just avoid the ones with a lot of white.

I'm in my fifties and have no intention of stopping wearing them. My feet are pretty unremarkable but I do pronate and not all trainers are comfy. Gazelles have the exact amount of support at the exact right place for me and I love the different colours. Maybe people see me and think I'm too old but I don't care - having footwear that works for my feet and cheers me up keeps me active as I get to the end of middle age. If you like them, wear them. White trainers are a chew anyway.

InMyMNEra · 27/02/2025 11:42

They’re literally what every 40+ year old is wearing near me.

According to a recent thread on here, yes Vejas are “out”, but I also see women wearing them all the time.

MagicSpaceTurtle · 27/02/2025 11:42

52 here and love my gazelles. I find them really comfy and stylish.
I’m past caring what anyone else thinks about what. I wear anyway.

DylanThomasWritingShed · 27/02/2025 11:43

I’m in my fifties and dress however I want to. Glittery nails too.

That’s the great thing about being over 50!

CarrieOnComplaining · 27/02/2025 11:46

Early 60s, about to buy some Spezial, Gazelles are a bit narrow across the toe for me. But been wearing similar trainers for years.

CharlotteCChapel · 27/02/2025 11:55

My advice is no to white. They just get dirty so unless you only wear them over very short distances you'll be forever cleaning them.

jay55 · 27/02/2025 12:00

White trainers look like orthopaedic shoes on me so I avoid.
Wear what makes you feel good.

LuckySantangelo35 · 27/02/2025 12:02

What about some Onitsuka tigers op? @Coco1789

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 27/02/2025 12:11

65 and I bought my first gazelles last year, shlepped all around Marrakesh in them. Also have New Balance and limited edition Vans for the summer. The amount of fuck I give fit in a thimble.

tanstaafl · 27/02/2025 12:19

Carry on, but don’t let the zoo keeper see you.

ZaZathecat · 27/02/2025 12:37

I'm in my 60s and don't see why any kind of trainer would be out of bounds. The only things I avoid as I get older are where too much wrinkly flesh is on display!

Manchesterbythesea · 27/02/2025 12:45

I’m 45 and buying myself a pair of gazelle Bold tomorrow. Just need to decide on a colour now!

If Professor Mary Beard can wear fancy trainers so can you.

Ankhmo · 27/02/2025 12:50

I think gazelles are fine for any sex and any age tbh.

dudsville · 27/02/2025 12:51

I initially read this as in, are you physically able to take them off! 1) You are younger than you realise. 2) Of course you can!

Lyn397 · 27/02/2025 12:53

I'm late 40's and loved Gazelles in my 20's. The only reason I don't wear them now is that I remember how cheap they were when i was young and refuse to pay the price they want for them now!

ManchesterLu · 27/02/2025 12:54

Never put an age limit on what you want to wear!

Rebootnecessary · 27/02/2025 12:55

I'm 57 and wear Spezial's - mine are orange they look great with jeans. They are so comfortable!

ThePoshUns · 27/02/2025 12:56

I'm 53 and have white and green gazelles and some new balance. Age is just a number. Wear what you like.

BIWI · 27/02/2025 12:56

What on earth does your age have to do with trainers?!

If you like them, if they fit, if you can afford them - then buy them.
