Need help deciding, have ordered a dress from a catalogue and it is out of stock so I need an outift for a whole day wedding at the end of this month. I am normally a trackies and trainers girl. Please help.

I have the same problem singy only I am a size 22 and have a little longer.

I was eyeing this up.

colditz · 10/05/2008 19:13

I wore brown trousers and a brown top, but the bride was 24 and so were the rest of her friends, and they were slim and pretty and in pastels and to be honest, when she put her wedding pics on Facebook I wasn't happy.

Pick a nice summery colour.

That is nice. A dress is completely alien to me (dont think I have workn one since I was a child) but I tried one on not that long ago and was actually quite impressed by how it looked and felt.

I went to my bf wedding last year and I wore cream trousers and a brown/cream chifon floral top thing. At the time I had serious self esteem issues and was in big trouble with my mother for not dressing more weddingy. I am a bit better about my self now so would like something to show this.

i had a great dress from monsoon for weddings last year. so succesful i'm wearing it for one at the end of the month. will look for something similar on their site, i think it's a shape they often do. hang on.

this kind of shape, but mine is silk. also, have a look at ghost for dresses. they suit me very well, though are £££.

hoxtonchick · 10/05/2008 19:16

more like this actually, drapey

singyswife · 10/05/2008 19:18

They are £££££ arent they.

singyswife · 10/05/2008 19:18

That is very similar to the one I ordered but they cannot get it in stock.

OP posts:
hoxtonchick · 10/05/2008 19:19

which one?

schneebly · 10/05/2008 19:19

ooh like that monsoon catalina one - v nice

cocolepew · 10/05/2008 19:19

Are you a tall, curvy 16-18, or a short, rounder 16-18?
Gore details needed!

cocolepew · 10/05/2008 19:20

MORE not gore

singyswife · 10/05/2008 19:22

It was out of Additions though (much more in my price range). Not too good at links but will try [ georgette dress - petite]

dont know if this will work

OP posts:
singyswife · 10/05/2008 19:23

Nope didnt work. georgette dress - petite

OP posts:
singyswife · 10/05/2008 19:23

I give up with the links. Additions cataloge, petite dresses (as am shirt) then it is the last dress.

OP posts:
singyswife · 10/05/2008 19:24

I am a small round 16-18 but currently seem to be a 17 which is annoying. I also prefer petite as I find normal clothes are too gappy at the arms and doesnt look right.

I wore a sari once to a UK non-asian wedding - I felt great and everyone loved it because it was different!

posieflump · 10/05/2008 19:26

I am a generous 14 and most shops have to get 16 but in Hobbs the 14 was big on me so go there for nice dresses and it will also give you a confidence boost!

llareggub · 10/05/2008 19:27

If you try on Monsoon dresses and like the shape, keep an eye on ebay. I often find Monsoon dresses, with tags, at a fraction of the retail price. I've just bought a cotton dress for £20, but the rrp was £55.

singyswife · 10/05/2008 19:27

Never heard of them, I will google them. Thanks

Fillyjonk · 10/05/2008 19:29

do you have to get it through a catalogue?

I would avoid this unless you are a very typical size 16-18.

I think hoxton's links are good, I wore something very similar when pg last year and it worked well (think it was called a "tea dress?")

The cut and drape of the fabric will make a tremendous difference to how flattering it is, IME, so I really really would go and try them on!

Fillyjonk · 10/05/2008 19:30

monsoon sale another place to get cheap monsoon dresses

oh how I love the monsoon sale racks!

(dp likes them less )

hoxtonchick · 10/05/2008 19:30

this?. i like it. which colour?

singyswife · 10/05/2008 19:31

No it doesnt have to be from a catalogue, I am just having difficulty fitting in shopping for one. It sounds like I have a long time but I work 2 half days a week and 2 full days so I dont really have a lot of time and at the weekends I spend time with family. I am panicing now,
