Summer wedding - what to wear with this dress?

Hi all, DP and I are going to a summer wedding this year, the groom is one of his oldest pals who he grew up with.
It's an outdoor wedding and the invite specifies the dress code as not too dressy.....they specifically say don't wear stilettos unless you want to sink into the grass 😄
I'm wearing this dress but I have no idea what shoes to wear with it! I'm imagining sandals but I don't think dainty strappy sandals would work as its not a thin strappy dress if you get what I mean?
Please help, I'm hopeless at this sort of thing

Wedges?

Lovely dress.

Bodenne · 14/02/2025 19:01

Well, anything that’s not a stiletto

Cool, nike high tops it is then as usual 👌

I'd get pink or silver birkies for that dress for an informal, outdoor wedding.. Mayari style.

Thanks, is that Birkenstock sandals because I was looking at some online thinking they could be nice! Silver hadn't occurred to me but I think that'd go well 😊

I'd go for wedges. No sinking into the ground with them.

Thanks, yeah I think wedges are a good shout, dressy but informal enough.

Just need to do something about my pasty white, scabby legs now 🤣

I’d definitely go with wedges.

As a fellow pasty white legs owner, have a look at erborian cc tinted body cream. I swear my legs don’t even take fake tan, but this is great for smoothing out skin tone and giving a nice even look. Easy to apply, no streaks, washes off. Get into a bit of exfoliation routine in the run up too.

Oh amazing thanks, I will do. I was reluctant to try fake tan, I've never done it and could imagine it going badly wrong but this stuff sounds better.

Lovely dress , good figure

Definitely slap on a bit of fake tan and some nice wedges

Lush 👍🏼

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 15/02/2025 07:47

I'm pasty. I wear tinted leg colour all summer. It looks so much better than fake tan which comes off unevenly
Your dress is lovely. Can I ask where its from please and how do you get the belt fastened so nicely?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/02/2025 08:22

@Allelbowsandtoes

I was thinking of this style Birkenstock Mayari. If you Google you'll find some silver ones.

RancidRuby · 15/02/2025 08:49

If you don't feel confident self tanning but feel like your legs are too pasty, then why not consider a long dress or even something like a high waisted wide leg trouser worn with a pretty camisole? The dress pictured is very nice but does it have to be that specific dress you wear?

TriangleLight · 15/02/2025 08:51

Dear god, don’t do Birkenstocks.

A block heel sandal would work, kind of seventies style

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 15/02/2025 09:01

Fake tan will look weird and obvious. Your face and arms will be a different colour

Thankyou that's a lovely thing to say - I definitely don't always feel good about myself but this dress is quite flattering 😄

Yeah I think I'll go with a tinted leg thing that another poster mentioned! My arms and face tan naturally in summer so won't look too weird hopefully.

I actually made the dress which is why I'm keen to wear it! I can tell you the pattern and fabric I used if you sew x

I can't sew but your skills are amazing. You've made a gorgeous dress

Espadrilles

Are the ties meant to be tied the way you've tied them?

I'd like to know the pattern please? You've done a great job there, it's lovely!

Thanks, I'll have a look at those.
There's a few different ways to tie it tbh, when you Google the sewing pattern everyone does it in a different way it seems!

Thanks ☺️
It's the sew house seven "tea house" dress.
I'd definitely recommend doing a mock up first as I found it a bit fiddly in places and the sizing is whack as usual - I'm a size 12 with big hips and big bum, and ended up making it in a size 8!

Also on no account wear Mary Jane espadrilles, or any espadrilles, especially flat ones, with that dress, it’s very classy and needs something smarter for a wedding, even if they’re selfishly having it on grass 😂

I'd say on no account wear those clompy block sandals.
