Inspired by @Lentilweaver and @Janbluesuary's comments on a thread yesterday...

I don't want to do anything to my face and need some inspiration for stylish women in their 50s, 60s and 70s who both look their age and look fantastic. I'm white, slim, with fairly thin skin that's prone to lines.

Kirsten Scott Thomas in Slow Horses is my current reason to keep away from Botox and other 'tweakments' as she looks incredible and wears her lines beautifully. (Sophie Okonedo is breathtaking of course, but has no wrinkles whereas I most definitely do!)

Who else can I look up to?

If I make it to my 70s 80s, I may well have some fun and go the full Iris Apfel. Don't yet have the confidence to stand out quite so much!!

Actually Madhur Jaffrey is 91!

Renthorrorshow · 02/02/2025 01:23

I love Camilla's wrinkly twinkly face and thought she looked fantastic here in comparison to Brigitte Macron who has clearly had a lot more work done (I realise Camilla will have had tweakments and the best facials money can buy). I would have expected this pink to be a bit tragic on someone in their 70s but think it actually looks rather youthful and fun, a bit sexy even (though would indeed look tragic in combo with a surgery-face).

These are no longer alive but pretty sure Jane Birkin, Lauren Bacall and Françoise Hardy never had any work. Nowadays, Charlotte Rampling. Funnily, three of those are French/lived in France.

CR is English but has lived in Paris forever, same as Jane Birkin until she died.

Lauren Hutton

Lentilweaver · 02/02/2025 08:27

I juat don't believe Lauren Hutton or Jane Birkin never had anything done.
For an untouchrd face we need to go outaide the glamour industry.

Caterpillargirl23 · 02/02/2025 08:53

If you want inspiration from famous people you could look at older sports people, they presumably are less under pressure to look good. Having said that they also probably started with some natural advantages and they would have followed a strict diet / lifestyle for years whilst training.

Lentilweaver · 02/02/2025 08:56

Yes to former athletes. Denise Lewis looks great.

PuppyMonkey · 02/02/2025 08:59

I think Dawn French looks fabulous these days and I love her grey hair.

Caterpillargirl23 · 02/02/2025 09:01

@Lentilweaver she does indeed! As does Paula Radcliffe, although just in her 50s.

SoScarletItWas · 02/02/2025 09:05

How about Kathleen Soriano, judge on Sky show Portrait Artist of the Year - great style and I’d say natural face. She’s 61.

She looks great. I think there are many women in the arts and academia who look great.
Lucy Worsley, for one ( Hope it's natural)

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 02/02/2025 09:15

I thought Kate Winslet looked amazing, and very natural, in the posters for Lee.

And check out Shelia Hancock in today’s Observer - looking fucking fabulous at 92.

Itsalwaysfools · 02/02/2025 09:17

This may split opinion but Davina Mccall. She very clearly has had work done. Botox very evidently and breast implants, to name just 2 procedures. Doesn't look like she's had fillers though. However, she is still embracing her age, isn't trying to look 20, advocates for nutrition and exercise, wears whatever she wants, looks and feels sexy, has a sex life, still goes out out and generally seems to squeeze every drop out of life.

Lentilweaver · 02/02/2025 09:18

No, I am just going to keep suggesting women outside showbiz 😁

Absolute no to Davina McCall. Why are we constantly suggesting people who have had considerable work done?
I still go out out, exercise and follow a good diet. Why is that worthy of notice?

NigelHarmansNewWife · 02/02/2025 09:24

I think we should be celebrating age and embracing ageing. If someone chooses to have things done to reduce the impact then that should be their choice and not because of pressure to stay young looking, as is the case in Hollywood and on TV. So often I read derogatory comments, sadly frequently from other women, about women in the public eye - they look old, have lost their looks, should do something about x or comments about work they have had done/supposedly have had done. Men don't get half as much scrutiny but are undoubtedly under more pressure to be youthful for longer than ever before.

The really sad thing to me is the young people undergoing treatments, which we probably don't know enough about the long term effects of, because they are unhappy with how they look. We are far too focused on looks.

Lentilweaver · 02/02/2025 09:26

This thread is titled natural aging. Please do not suggest Tess Daley or Kate Middleton next!

None of this is worthy of note. We're discussing the way women look, not world politics, history or the finance markets. I said it would split opinion. I think it's vanishingly rare to find someone in the public eye who hasn't had a quick shot of botox, so I almost discount it! I think she looks her age but looks fab, isn't over-done and isn't averse to wearing short skirts, looking fucking amazing in the process of doing so.

PontiacFirebird · 02/02/2025 09:28

For me it was my mum. Should could look a bit knackered in the mornings, but I watched her host a party aged about 72 and she looked about 52. Just beautiful. Fantastic cheekbones and lots of smiling. A lot of it is in the bone structure and smiling does really lift the face. Sadly I look more like my dad!

Tess Daly is a freak of nature. She doesn't look over done, I know she's had work done but I can't see it (no silly pout, no hamster cheeks, no frozen face). She's hit the looks lottery! Probably had a face lift at 45, so you transition seamlessly in to your 50s looking age-defying.

Lentilweaver · 02/02/2025 09:39

Ok, I guess we all have different ideas about what is aging naturally. I guess this thread is now for women who have had work done but not overdone. Maybe even facelifts!
Personally I don't like Tess Daly's look and I don't want to look like her.

gingercat02 · 02/02/2025 09:41

@Itsalwaysfools a colleague of mine is friends with a plastic surgeon, (who works in non cosmetic NHS PS) that she was too late for botox etc, at 46, a face lift would be her best option. Apparently good, not noticeable tweekments, need to start in your 20's

Lentilweaver · 02/02/2025 09:44

Oh FFS. Tweakments in your 20s?
Of course a plastic surgeon would suggest that. Vultures feeding off women's insecurity.
This thread has now deteriorated into every other thread on S and B, suggesting tweakments and face lifts.

Youranus · 02/02/2025 09:48

Annie Lennox is 70 and looks incredible. She has never had cosmetic surgery or used Botox and fillers.
